I hope they have some cheaper alternatives lined up though, because signing Willian and Coutinho (on loan) won't be cheap – especially if they manage to get a deal done for Partey.

The wages were the issue for sure, it caused issues in the dressing room and he clearly was not earning it with performances. Good luck to him at Inter though we bought him when he was clearly on the decline

There were apparently issues in the Arsenal dressing room too with Sanchez, but those were more attitude related. Although Arsenal have missed his qualities on the pitch, it looks like the mood in the squad improved after he left. Hope he does alright at Inter though.
I certainly didn't have that feeling on Saturday! I feared another Baku type of final.

Arteta certainly appears to be having a positive effect and is currently doing the most important thing that is developing a team ethic, though as you well know that will take Arsenal only so far there has to be good recruitment.

Good player apparently Jose was after him two years ago when at United which I would have welcomed. Based on his performances recently he has still got it, I presume Lampard dropped him because of contract issues.
Yeah, true....contracts issues and the arrival of Ziyech and Werner meant he was superfluous, even if he's still a very good player.

Arteta has maximised the potential with the current squad already IMO, so all will come down to the recruitment. I don't trust they will, but it's time for them to prove fans and critics wrong. Having got that FA Cup trophy in the bag, Arteta can surely be more demanding towards the club about what he needs.
I don't like how Arsenal seem to be so reliant on Kia Joorabchian these days, and I'm sceptical about the wages Willian is likely to get (where are they going to take that from?), but as a signing, they could do a lot worse. I think Willian ticks a few of those boxes which is lacking in that squad, and I think he'll be a decent guy to have around until the likes of Joe Willock, Emile Smith Rowe etc. gain more experience.

I really don't know about smalling. I think his frequent mistakes in defensive situations, is the main reason Man U lost faith in him....which is understandable.
Smalling is not great at coming out with the ball that's for sure, I guess its how your defence is set up, I recall Arsenal being linked with him previously. I would imagine Arteta will want to play more expansive football going forward.

Credit to Ole in that he is building with youth and Sanchez leaving signals the end of buying over priced so called world class players who are past there best. Rashford, Martial, Sancho, Greenwood, Pogba and Fernandez the best attackers we have had since Fergie.

There's a gap in the age groups at the club now it seems, several youngsters in and around 20 years of age, and players closer to and above 30. If those younger players manage to establish themselves, Arsenal might have a nice squad in a few years or so, age wise.
True, Arsenal are in Utopia at the moment.
They have plenty of challenges though: Who are they able to bring in, which players do they keep or sell (or loan out for that matter), what do they do re. the Özil situation, the Guendouzi situation, the contract situation for Aubameyang and Lacazette, etc. I wonder how much of this they're able to sort out over the summer…
