And I have been saying this for quite some time now......and many of my fellow Bond fans thought I was crazy :-).
$87.8 million in the U.S. is the biggest James Bond opening weekend here ever for the Bond series. Beautiful.
My thoughts exactly. I hoped (since its announcement) that we could continue the one Bond film every other year schedule, but with these numbers, it looks incredibly likely. Hopefully an official announcement hits in the coming months.
MARK my words…”SKYFALL” will hit 1 billion cum within 60 days. Dom and global combined. It’s that cool of a Bond movie, for many demos. My audience was packed; demo ranges; everyone…always applauding and shouting in satisfaction.
Quote:
Our Regal Cinemas in Battery Park City in lower Manhattan is almost never sold out of a show except for opening weekends of movies like Dark Knight and Avengers where some of the shows are sold out. Every Skyfall showing from 6PM on had been sold out this weekend so far- this has never happened before.
So, the film might have done well over 90 mill without Sandy.
Whe I started reading for a moment I thought you were talking about me :-S then I realized it was the hurricane. Sad thing, yes I think a lot of people have more important things to do right now than go watch SF.
We're at $117 million in the UK now. It'll take down Avatar for the number one spot in the coming weeks.
I still think $900 million depends on the hold both in the US and overseas next weekend, if it's strong enough, then yeah, we're in with a shot for the 3rd biggest Bond ever. And that would be unbelievable. Who would have thought that, except GG. $300 million up on the last film.
;-). We should play Texas Hold 'M soon. Casino Royale-style ;-).
Personally, I doubt it'll make it to $900m, but it may well break the $800m barrier at this rate, which would be awesome - in more ways than one... :)
But the Hobbit will definitely hurt it.
To be fair, most of its money in the vast majority of its markets will be hauled by the time The Hobbit opens, I'd wager. With the exception of Japan probably...
Competition from 'Twilight'? Maybe, though back in 2010 'Inception' did not suffer from 'Twilight II' and the other way around.
'The Hobbitt'? That movie premieres on December 13th (UK) and December 14th (USA). That's 32 days from now. One bloody big month. By then 'Skyfall' may well fall much more yes, but I do think it still can retain some marketshare deep into December, early January.
Hence the fact that 'M:I-Ghost Protocol' got extra screens added in February, when Paramount saw how it was soaring. Let's see if Sony will do the same.
Yes, but some economists would predict people would be willing to hold back on spending money on Skyfall and save it for a month down the road.
But I don't think that's the mindset of people at all. People tend to spend money when they want.
That's a fair amount to add on once the majority of the money has been taken. Thanks.
