    Mod edit: watch the language!

When you grow up you'll perhaps learn the art of compromis otherwise you are going to spend some lonely nights on Saturdaynight and such.

James Bond is not the best, he's entertaining in most of his movies but there have been plenty of better movies around.

Try to tell me something better than From Russia With Love or Casino Royale (not ranked as Bond films, but as films in general).

    Grade A, classic films.

FRWL IS classic, CR is not. Hitchcock's films are equally as classic and entertaining by the way. If you want a spy like entertainment, how about North By Northwest, which even FRWL itself is guilty of homaging.

And it turns out.. Quantum of Solace was beat out after its first weekend at #1 to.... Twilight. (The first film)

    Change anybody's thoughts?

That doesn't change my opinions at all. QoS got ransacked by a lot critically, especially Bond fans, so the common opinion swept through and Twilight took in more $$$. It doesn't make it the lesser film by any standard. Plus, Skyfall has the big 50 on its side, as well as a damn perfect cast and crew of colossal proportions.

Sorry about the language. It will not happen again, really sorry.
    Art of comprimis? Sounds interesting
Lonely saturday nights? Not a problem ( if you know what i mean) just kidding. I have a girlfriend and she loves Twilight. I never say these thing in front of her. If she only knew. I was just letting it out. Sorry
I think Skyfall will do fine, even against Twilight

Based on MI6's new article, I'd like to *bump* this discussion. The article is linked in the original post and here:

Profits will be boosted heaps by setting the movie in China, the biggest market for pretty much everything these days just by sheer population.

I can't think of anything that would make SF a flop or not surpass CR in profits.

the only thing that Skyfall may 'fail' at is at the audience/critics reaction, even if the possibilities of that are quite small. SF's box office is pretty much bulletproof.

I didn't mind Cowboys & Aliens. It was entertaining.

CGI or not, SF will be amazing.
SF will be the best Bond movie in 10 years (since the glorious DAD) and will earn atleast 600 million.

Care to explain why? You can't ever be sure of these things.

I think people who are constantly saying Skyfall will be a 'perfect Bond film' and 'the best Bond film ever', will either be overjoyed by the film, or completly disappointed if the film does not meet their expectations.

Some here will probably be very happy if we get a 'good' Bond outing, but those who are expecting a 'perfect outing' will be disappointed even if the film is just 'good'.

Those who over-hype the film have a 50% chance of loving the film and a 50% chance of hating the film. Those who who have lower expectations will see their chances of being happy with the film increase. The more you hype, the more chances you have of being disappointed.

I pointed this out on the news tidbits thread after somebody posted an article with reasons saying "why SF could be the best Bond film ever". It's almost impossible to live up to this level of hype, I'll be happy if it's good but there are some people who are so certain it'll be perfect, they could be let down. The new Batman film has the same problem and Prometheus had that problem.

We just had loads of articles these last weeks on the subject why the Dutch will not lose from the Germans and then the Portugese. And guess what the reasons truend out to be BS.
The same applies to Bond23, if the movie is any good people will go and see it. If it is such a mess as QoS, which seems hardly possible, people will stay away. It all comes down to we shall see.
It would surprise me if it flopped because the brand of 007 does a lot of BO business.

Better get this started up again in time for the official figures.

So when do we get the figures from Friday?
  • I found this on an Italian blog specialised in Box Office results. I do not know the reliability of the data, though...

And here a comparison with the years when there was a James Bond movie in cinema's. The rating is from highest worldwide gross to lowest worldwide gross. As you can see, the last three Bond films did not even come close to a TOP 7 spot. But I also made a prediction of what to expect for the 2012 bof office:

My TOP 10 prediction of highest worldwide grossing films in 2012:
    01) $1,511,757,910 'The Avengers'
    02) $1,200,000,000 'The Hobbit' (Allthough I hope it narrowly beats 'The Avengers')
    03) $1,077,694,498 'The Dark Knight Rises'
    04) $ 900,000,000 'Skyfall'
    05) $ 867,133,985 'Ice Age: Continental Drift'
    06) $ 800,000,000 'The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn - Part 2'
    07) $ 752,216,557 'The Amazing Spider-Man'
    08) $ 700,450,734 'Madagascar 3'
    09) $ 686,533,290 'The Hunger Games'

@Gustav - thanks for providing the numbers, but I meant the opening numbers and Sam, I am not sure, they wold have smashed the other films, too, because the reference was going to the Bond films only.

The Avengers is at £25, forgot about that one.

There's nothing that tops that. Batman doesn't come close plus this was a May film.

thought this was quite an interresting figure:

    October 19–21 £15,689,449 +50.5% 55 Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted
    October 12–14 £10,382,835 -30.4% 53 Taken 2
    October 5–7 £14,863,329 +56.8% 54 Taken 2

    Lucky Guess:
    October 26-28 £21,800,000(?) Skyfall

    Any undated numbers?

    and just to compare:

    November 21–23 £8,681,025 -22.4% 68 Quantum of Solace
    November 14–16 £11,325,772 -27.3% 71 Quantum of Solace
    November 7–9 £14,681,598 -36.4% 70 Quantum of Solace
    Oct 31–November 2 £22,452,380 +33.6% 76 Quantum of Solace
