LOL - I will think of something, when the time has come. Maybe we all open a collective bottle of Bollinger ;)

Even if it follows CR’s decline at the U.S. box office, there is another $30m there. The thing is, it is still doing a lot better –

    5th weekend CR = $5.6 v 5th weekend SF = $10.7m.

It could well do another $40m in the U.S. So the rest of the world would need to make up the other $40m – It did over $20m overseas last weekend and the Christmas holidays are on the way…

Anyway, I’d be surprised if its worldwide take wasn’t around $950m by this Sunday night.

This weekend will bring us to $940 million at least, so maybe less from China will be needed. $1 billion is in the bag.

    EDIT: Oops, beaten to it!

As soon as SF reaches $1billion I'm going to go around randomly shouting "1 billion dollars, Mr. Bond" in my best Dr. No voice impression.

...and yes, I'm aware in Dr. No he says 1 million dollars.
  • Okay, dear fans (nerds :-P). Describe in one word your feeling towards 'Skyfall' :-D

Why using words when we have this :x
  • So a billion is pretty much in the bag? Nice. I'd be very happy if it manages to beat Batman.

    Good.

Boring choice I know but it sums up my feelings fairly well I reckon. I liked it but didn't think it was as brilliant as others seem to.

I'm feared that we can't reach it. China reaching the 50 mil mark on its country, it's just a too small box.

If Skyfall made $918 mil by Sunday just gone after making $31 million WW that weekend surely it will be well passed $950 mil without China my Predictions $980 mil without China.

That's nonsense. The success of 'Skyfall' now already means it will stay in cinema much longer than the previous two Bond films. 'Skyfall's number of screens will now go down less rapidly than with QOS and CR. 'Skyfall' is now perceived as an 'Inception'-/'The Dark Knight Rises'-kind of movie.

I predict a longer run in cinemas than 'Casino Royale's 100 days. I guess well into early March.

Yes, the 1 Billion Dollar milestone will not happen in the next two weeks. But it will happen. Just very slowly but steadily.

Well G.G i hope it does not drop to hard this weekend in the face of the Hobbit particularly internationally where The Hobbit is being predicted to be perhaps be the Biggest international grosser not made by James Cameron e.g over $950 mil Overseas. So i fear it's run overseas will be shorter then it could of been. Skyfall will drop hard this weekend every as it loses basically all it's IMAX screens to The Hobbit. Still i think a billion is a lock will finish somewhere between Alice in wonderland and Pirates 4 in final gross as in $1.30 billion.

The Hobbit opening day in France is lower than Skyfall ;)

The Hobbit has far from glowing reviews, so if that meets the opinion of the audience, this will be good for SF.

You tend to forget that there is always a 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th spot at the box office. After 'The Hobbit' at 1st spot, I still think 'Skyfall' could stay on 2nd or 3rd spot for considerable time.

Moreover, during christmas and the rest of December, you will see 'Skyfall' earning again more money than the past and current week, especially during the last two weeks of December.

These are the weekend figures for 'Casino Royale' till the very end of its run. So yes, 'Skyfall' will NOT be on first spot anymore. But expect considerable amounts of money coming in during the weekends. + million amounts until the end of January. And do not forget, these are only weekend figures:

Another update of the 'Spy/Action Movies-list'. As of December 14th 2012, 'Skyfall' seems to be on the road towards the $1 Billion worldwide. It is expected that 'Skyfall' will bank in another $40 Million in the USA alone until the very end of its run, probably late February/early March.

Then there is China. It is now officially confirmed that 'Skyfall' will premiere in China on Sunday January 20th, so it can cash in one some Chinese New Year excitement (This year Chinese New Year is on February 10th). The worst prediction would see 'Skyfall' still earning $40 Million in China.

But that would already be enough pushing 'Skyfall' over the $1 Billion mark worldwide. And all other markets besides China and USA haven't been taken into account either. Summarizing: 'Skyfall' is now battling 'The Dark Knight' and 'The Dark Knight Rises'.

Note for the reader: Take in mind that for, more or less, accurate comparisons, most of the below action/spy movies are produced in 1987 or later. Actually, most of them were produced after the 1990's.

Furthermore, I have updated the list in such a way now, so that you can also use it as a 'watchlist'. Movies with a '▪' are part of a spy/actionhero movie franchise. Movies with a '▫' are rebooted movies or remakes. Movies with a '∞' are based on previous tv-series.

@Gustav_Graves an interesting but flawed list if you are including Batman but not any other superhero / comic book movies.

I seriously think the last three Batman films are way more realistic, less comical. In fact, in a way they are very Bond-esque and it got me interested in the franchise. The pre-Nolan Batman films? Not my cup of tea.

So you can call it flawed, but I think the cross pollination between Nolan's Batman and the last three Bond films is quite clear. If there are two franchises who inspired each other in the past 8 years, then they certainly are Batman and Bond.

I also think the difference between an action hero and a spy are quite....'grey'. An action hero like Batman is often spying, while Bond is also a modern day action hero.

All other action heroes like Superman, Spiderman, Transformers, Thor, Captain America? That is already way way more sci-fi. Nolan's Batman? Way more realistic.

    So a flawed list? No.

The Hobbit is a December release so they start slower and build over christmas reviews have been less then stellar i feel due to reviewers reviewing the format 48 frames per second rather then film. Also apparently like a lot of hugely successful films reviews mean nothing as the mass audience so far is loving it. Even as a big Bond film fan Skyfall does not deserve to outgross The Dark Knight one of finest Big blockbusters Hollywood has produce a huge game changer for all of Hollywood. It just underachieve overseas as superhero are not as popular outside of the US and Overseas markets did not pick up on how great a move it is. Also foreign markets have expanded massively in last 2 years.

htall90 SF may not deserve to outgross TDK as you said but it definetly derserve to outgross TDKR the lowest point in the triology.

I prefer TDKR to Batman Begins Bane IMO was as good a villain as is possible to follow Heaths Ledger joker Tom Hardy performance knock the ball out of the park amazing. I was disappointed with the ending Bane's death such a letdown. TDKR was better then expected great movie just hype was so stupid people where expecting the best movie of all time to follow TDK. Therefore it is underrated as it is compared back to one of the finest hollywood films of recent times any film would look bad compared to Dark knight of films released with a big budget in the last 15 years.IMO still the best big blockbuster of the year until i see the Hobbit.

SF doesn't deserve to outgross TDK??? Utter nonsense. Both are very good films but I do think TDK is painfully overrated. IMO Batman Begins is the best if the trilogy. Had Nolan kept to the filthy grittiness of Begins for TDK and TDKR, I'd regard them as better films but like with every batman film to date apart from begins, the latter 2 movies, for me, were saved by the villainy of Joker and Bane.

    My rating then:
    01) 'The Dark Knight'
    02) 'Skyfall'
    03) 'Casino Royale'
    04) 'Batman Begins'
    05) 'The Dark Knight Rises'
    06) 'Quantum Of Solace'

    ;-).
  • Batman Begins is my favourite. Then TDKR, then TDK.

TDK had the best villian but bored me a bit, TDKR was really good in the cinema but had a few plot holes that nagged at me afterwards.

BB I thought didn't get tied down by any themes like the other two. It had more humour, action, a faster pace, a cool origin story and it was the first Batman film I cared about (I'd seen a few of the others but wasn't really bothered about them).
