Well this comment is about inflation, which is something more "natural" to understand. Exchange rate variation is far more abstract, and the consequences on the box office is well, a bit meaningless (the worldwide box office is counted in a currency that's used for "only" a third of it). If the $ inverts the trend and becomes very strong, then we may have to wait for quite a long time for the 2bn$ movie, even with inflation and China !
It appears that the distributor didn't report daily takings for those two days, but if you look closely you'll see the total jumps on 27th. So they got a round number later on.
Incidently, when the International figures are released by Sony after NY.....i do expect the overall BO for 'SF' to of reached, and passed the $1 billion mark.
Its then upto the Chinese on Jan 21st to add the icing to the cake for 'SF'. :)
A point about comparisons of old Bond films to the latest ones in terms of BO performance.
Yes, i also agree that the real true figure for a films success is the attendance figures.
One thing though people dont take into account is 'population'.
Yes, more people went to the cinema in days gone past as that was the main visual entertainment.........but you cant ignore the vast population growth since the mid-sixties.
Therefore, there are potentially millions and millions of more cinemagoers available to see the newer films.
Another point to take into consideration is that Bond films and others of the past did not have the luxury of being released in countries such as Russia, India and China.
............and then there are the films enormous production and marketing budgets today, but that is a subject in itself.
Overall, its very difficult to determine which film is the most successful.
Mod edit: double post merged into one.

$82 million until we take down The Dark Knight Rises! Who wouldn't thought that at the beginning of the year?
I shall be honest, I was certain 'Skyfall' would pass the 1 Billion, but not before the end of the year. Well, I was wrong. Even for the new 'Hobbit' film it becomes now a bit hard to pass that figure.
It is now dead certain that 'Skyfall' will pass the box office figures of 'The Dark Knight' (2008) within a few days. Next step then will be 'The Dark Knight Rises' (2012) on this list.
What is even more impressive, is the foreign box office (USA excluded). That has now reached the incredible +$710 million, China still excluded.
Note for the reader: Take in mind that for, more or less, accurate comparisons, most of the below action/spy movies are produced in 1987 or later. Actually, most of them were produced after the 1990's.
Furthermore, I have updated the list in such a way now, so that you can also use it as a 'watchlist'. Movies with a '▪' are part of a spy/actionhero movie franchise. Movies with a '▫' are rebooted movies or remakes. Movies with a '∞' are based on previous tv-series.

But Skyfall has done it. The Billion Dollar Bond Film. I'm very proud to be a Bond fan right now. ;)
And people like Blond Bond and Craignotbond are really in minority. Sure they can make a lot of noise, but they are really small groups. :)) Now they must be eating their hat.
But congratulations Skyfall!
And even more ironically, this post is on the 51st page.
Jeff Blake, chairman of worldwide marketing and distribution for Sony Pictures and Gary Barber, MGM's chairman and chief executive, made the announcement Sunday.
The film, from Albert R. Broccoli’s EON Productions, Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Studios, and Sony Pictures Entertainment, is the most successful Bond film of all time. It is also the most successful film at the worldwide box office in Sony Pictures history.
"Skyfall," starring Daniel Craig as 007, took in $4.6 million this weekend in North America for a total of $289.6 million. Overseas, the film grossed $10.3 million for an international total to date of $710.6 million and a worldwide total exceeding $1 billion and growing. It has yet to play China, where it will open on Jan. 21.
"It is truly thrilling to reach this incredible milestone. With tremendous gratitude to Barbara and Michael, Sam, Daniel and our partner Sony, and to all of the dedicated distributors and fans across the globe, we are so proud of both Skyfall and our 50 year association with James Bond," said Gary Barber, MGM's Chairman and CEO.
“To see a film connect with audiences is always gratifying but the success of this film is nothing short of extraordinary," Blake said in a statement. "We couldn't be more excited for (producers) Michael Wilson, Barbara Broccoli, (director) Sam Mendes, Daniel Craig, and especially the fans who put James Bond in this very rare and very exclusive billion dollar box office club."

What an end to 2012.
I hope that the chance for Mendes return is even bigger now!
