There needs to be a good Fleming biopic soon, I know there was that tv show, it was good but I'm talking about a film.

While not a biopic, there is a film loosely based on Fleming's Red Indians, or officially known as the 30 AU commandos, called Age of Heroes and even has a Bond alumni Sean Bean starring in it. Fleming is played by James D'Arcy in it.

    Is it a "good" film

There was meant to be a film starring Leonardo di Caprio as Ian Fleming at one point. Don't know what happened to that one...
  • I think Leonardo diCaprio has at some point or other been set to star as every single male figure who has ever had a biopic made of his life.

Wasn't there another one with Benedict Cumberbatch reported a year ago but still hasn't materialized?

And as for Age of Heroes, no it isn't a good film, average at best, if you look at it with mainstream eyes. However, as a Bond fan researching further into the Bond association and for educative purposes, it's worth it.

I also may be in the minority, but Fleming: The Man Who Would Be Bond that aired three years ago with Dominic Cooper was actually a very good miniseries, and I still like it to this day. Fictitious and very dramatized, true, but it's still entertaining. That said, it doesn't derail itself from the truth as much as Spymaker: The Secret Life of Ian Fleming did. It stays true to the points in Fleming's life we know up on the surface and just expands on it with imagination.

Yes, but not theatrical films. All of them are works of television.

I personally would like something along the lines of Fleming: The Man Who Would Be Bond. I did enjoy that miniseries. Don't mind a film like that.

I thought Fleming was alright, but I hope the real Fleming wasn't that unlikable.

    Probably true actually!

In the PTS of The Spy Who Loved Me, why was Sergei Barsov sent to kill James Bond? That was never explained.

I think your second sentence answers your first sentence. ;)

    It's a dead end, then.

I must pick up Christopher Wood's novelization and see if he gives further insight on that.

Why ? Simple : Bond is an enemy agent, and the KGB decided to have him eliminated. That's all. In the novelization, they even went to the lengths of having the body of a woman ready to use to pull a FRWL on him.

Definitely. That corpse hidden behind the lumps actually was quite creative in darkening a light storyline such as Spy. But, you have to give it to them, they're the SMERSH and their motivation on taking Bond out would make more sense than the KGB out of the blue decide to lure Bond into a trap.

I'm guessing this idea is a leftover from the draft that employed the use of SPECTRE-centered scheme that also held grudge against Bond. But, with the KGB having a special mission on taking out an enemy agent like Bond without a reason is a bit too nonsensical. They could have heated up the tension between the UK and the Soviets, especially when a FRWL-like conspiracy was not being planned in the film.

Hey so someone recently posted a photo from Daniel Craig's screen test. He was shirtless and holding a gun. Anyone have anymore photos or possibly video of his screen test? I know it involved him remaking a Connery scene and a Bond girl.

Coming back to The Spy Who Loved Me, again...

Why would Stromberg want to whet the appetites of competing world powers by selling them a microfilm with no vital information in it? Why would he alert them of his schemes? It's not like he needed the money or anything. Or was it just Fekkesh/Kalba's goodwill that he wanted to give them a head-start?

I don't think Stromberg was selling it, it was stolen by his Secretary. He wanted the
Infomation back. ........ Have you actually watched the film ? Perhaps watch it and

Silly assumption of a role on my part, yes. But, still, the microfilm was devoid of vital information. There was almost nothing on it... Other than that "Oratory" stamp. ;)

But by doing what she did,the secretary alerted Government agencies and put them on alert as to what happened with the submarines.

A headache Stromberg didn't need ,and the word ' ....oratory' and half of the Stromberg fish insignia put him firmly in the frame.

So, instead, she got what she had access to, and those weren't vital information, but she did the best she could... Now, it makes sense. Thanks, mate.

No probs....the fact that Bond and Amasova picked up on it so quickly showed the risk Stromberg faced over something so simple as a secretary stealing what she could.

    What a cock-up !!

If Old Stromberg had just had an affair with his Secretary, none of this would
    Have happened. ;)

They must've hired Michel Legrand for that particular "incident"... Or image as barryt007 calls it. ;)

Legrand's score sounds at times like an old 70s porno :D or so
@barryt007 tells me, as I've obviously never seen one. ;)
