Brosnan most definitely. Without even having to compete.

Very difficult to compare the two. Both had a great first film but haven't impressed me so very much afterwards. I guess I like them equally and take them over George but they are quite far behind the top three (Sean, Rog and Dalton). Brosnan has much more the look and the charm that I expect from James Bond but he lacks some edge and I enjoy Craig for being a bit tougher, however, I would like Craig to be more relaxed.

Craig for me ,but I do like the Brozza and think he gets too much stick sometimes.

Craig, but not by a huge margin. Love them both.

Brosnan for me. I love them both but to me Brosnan will always be Bond, along with Connery. Brosnan was Bond when I was a child and well into my teens. They both have equally good and bad films, even though I do enjoy DAD.

Craig for me. Though I do have a soft spot for Brosnan as he was "my" Bond.

Agreed. Brosnan will always be special to me and will be seen as my "favorite," regardless of his films, because I was introduced to the series through GE and I grew up and became a huge fan during his tenure.

Many did, in the 90's. There's been a reassessment of his contributions since, thankfully.

I put him above Connery back then. He just was Bond to me and whenever I thought of the name, his face came instinctively into my head.

Pierce was my first Bond as well, so I definitely see where you're coming from.

I even join them up with Roger Moore. These three are just my top 3 Bonds.

    That's definitely wrong. ;))

I watched GE at 13 years old at the cinema. After watching all the Bond films previously I found GE very average and Brosnan just ok. His performance in GE and the film in general is his best though.

GE was a defining film for me at the age of 9.

Ok it's aged a bit but I still find it a lot of fun and have a big soft spot for it.

The first Bond film I saw was GE on VHS (my first cinema Bond was TND) so you're probably just a bit behind me.

I don't really mind people being critical of TND but it hurts a bit when I hear people say things like "GE is awful" or "GE is average". Not to me it wasn't.

I still know of plenty of people who rank him amongst the best portrayals. His films may have a reassessment but I don't think his portrayal did. It's sad because he gets a lot of crap for having some of the more weaker installments. He came out on a high with Goldeneye, a film in my top 5 Bond movies. TND was quite generic but fun cheesy 90s entertainment. I personally loved TWINE, but that's just me. Then he unfortunately had to leave after the abysmal Die Another Day.

Craig on the other hand. I like the guy, and I think Casino Royale and Skyfall are tremendous movies, but for me, I just rather prefer Connery, Brosnan, and Moore before him. I'll admit I have nostalgia, but still. Just a personal opinion. Hell I think I'd put Dalton over Craig.

I think there's definitely more substance to Craig's portrayal and performances. As fond as I am of Brosnan (and I do enjoy watching him if he's in a new film) he does seem to be a bit of a one-note actor. What you see is very much what you get.

Yes, with all fairness, and as a fan of Brosnan, I do admit he's not that skilled of an actor. Sorry, but that's true. Hence he'd have suited better with two dimensional Golden Age Hollywood types rather than the dramatic ones of today.

I do find Craig's "performance" overrated. I like him, but he's my least favourite Bond, but I still like him. That said, he's not "that great" everyone refers to regarding his performance in Casino Royale. His best acting performance in the Bond series is in Skyfall, whereas I think his most Bondian was in Spectre, if anyone knows where my reference is heading to.
  • I can say that as as actor, Craig is miles ahead of Brosnan, but as Bond, then Brosnan all the way for me

Brosnan is a terrific actor, and is more than capable of portraying three-dimensional characters. With that said however, his Bond scripts rarely allowed for it.

    Proof?

I'm watching SP at the moment. I think Craig's character seems more one-note in this than he was in his previous films. Closer to Brosnan's "superspy" style of Bond.

That said I still think Craig is the actor with more range.

Three dimensional doesn't suit him that much, if you ask me. But, that's just my point of view.

However, we all know Brosnan could do dark sided characters quite well, too. I could imagine his Bond going utterly dark, cold and even ruthlessly sadistic to obtain what's rightful.

This picture makes me want to see that!

I agree. I wouldn't want him to try three dimensional in a Bond film (TWINE sadly comes to mind as a dismal effort imho).

I prefer Craig as 007 (it's not even close for me), but I much prefer watching Brosnan as a film actor outside of his Bond persona.

He is more castable since he just has that leading man look & charisma (even now), and I don't think Craig does (sorry folks). If Brosnan were a better actor, he could have been like Clooney, because his looks similarly do him a lot of favours.

Sky Movies? Just caught the end of the DB10 chase when I got in from work. Funny that, how I own all the films but whenever one's on TV I'll stick it on even if it's just for five minutes.

Pretty much this. Brosnan is a good actor, imo, but he's not as versatile as Craig, who I think is by far the best actor to take on the role.

But as Bond? I like Craig, and I've warmed to him even more after SF and SP, but I prefer Brosnan. Probably my second favourite after Dalton. There was just something about him that oozed cool, a great action hero but he was good in the darker scenes too and I think bought more depth than most give him credit for.
