Surely it now appears that SKY have a monopoly on everything! Why do we in the UK pay for a TV licence anymore? When SKY buy it all for subscription TV! Which to me is another TV licence in all but name! Glad i have got them all on DVD!

The only thing i will say is hopefully they will be shown in full without edits and adverts!
  • No. Just no. I am not paying more than the price of one DVD every month to watch Bond on TV. And I know for a fact there will be a messed up schedule unless Sky make their own James Bond channel. Sky is wanting our money, and it's wanting way too much of it.

Well, that explains why there have been no films on ITV for over a month! Of all the people to get the rights...It now seems to new films won't be any viewers tuning in.

It's quite sad and the end of an era.

Bond is on ITV until August. I hope they give Bond a good send off!

Shame, a lot of people have discovered Bond through ITV's a Bond film a week marathons, myself included. Very sad, what is the point of ITV4 now?

Quite. It seems this this well could be the end of ITV. Will they even be around in 20 years?

Its a shame bond has been on ITV as long as i can remember. i have all the movie's though have many times switched channels and stumbled on bond and watched it even if was midway through the film. Sky does appear to want to grab our money any which way.

ITV will Just continue to churn out reality tv and rubbish game show's.

Probably not. The X Factor and all of its demented family will be gone in a few years too, just watch this space...
And who watches cricket on ITV4 anyway?

Indeed. Right now they have The X Factor and Britain's Got Talent and maybe Dancing On Ice, that's it!

The problem is that not everyone can afford SKY? If they are only going to be shown on the MOVIE channels? It will cost more i think? As you do not get movies on the basic package?

What is annoying is that you pay extra for repeats which most of the channels show! lol! The only thing on SKY worth having is the Sports? But then again the way the TV companies dictate to the Football teams as when they can play there fixtures beggars belief?

They should rename it all! SKY football league, SKY Cricket...........etc. And the list goes on. Rant over, feel better for it though! lol! :))

IMO the quality of the grand prix broadcasts on SKY is better than the BBC's. yes it costs money, but I think the quality is there.

The only reason I keep paying for Sky is because of the football, new south park episodes and the grand prix. Now they've got Bond too. I hope they show the films more though, the last year or 2 the Bond films haven't been on as much as they used to.

Also, I don't have the movie package so I hope they just show them on sky 1.

    It seems it's official:

U.K. paybox BSkyB has acquired all U.K. TV rights to the James Bond franchise from MGM.

From October, all 22 of the Bond films made by Eon Prods. will be available on the Sky Movies channel in high definition.

BSkyB also acquired "Casino Royale" and "Never Say Never Again," which were not produced by Eon.

The acquisition ends free-to-air web ITV's long association with Bond pics, which have been a staple of its movie offer since 1975.

BSkyB has held pay TV rights to new Bond movies since the 1990s, giving the satcaster the British TV premiere of each film.

Until now, ITV held the rights to repeat old Bond movies and broadcast the free-to-air preems of new films.

The BSkyB deal, whose length and value were not disclosed, will kick off with the screening of "Dr No," timed to coincide with its 50th anniversary on Oct. 5.

The latest Bond pic, "Skyfall," which is released theatrically Oct. 26 in the U.K., will bow on Sky Movies in spring 2013.

So, all 23 Bonds plus Casino Royale and Never Say Never Again.

There'll be on the Showcase channel too, so not the normal ones that everyone has.

They'll be no reporting in the TV thread then...

    Here's more:

Ian Lewis, Director of Sky Movies, says that the company is “simply delighted to have secured the Bond films,” and that “we will ensure that we do them justice across Sky Movies, giving our customers the best possible experience in watching them.”

    http://www.electricpig.co.uk/2012/04/12/movies-sky-movies-entire-james-bond-back-catalogue-coming-to-sky-this-year/

A nice day to kick things off mind, 5th October.
  • IMO the quality of the grand prix broadcasts on SKY is better than the BBC's. yes it costs money, but I think the quality is there.

That's free-to-air channels for you. They probably provide bad commentary on purpose so that they make you buy Sky.

Another idea is making their own Bond channel that would be part of the entertainment package. I am losing Sky soon because of the ridiculous costs for all the channels including the world/religion/adult/basically boring channels (900 or so, half of which nobody even watches). Then I'd be happy. Sky better be listening or I might email them on behalf of all the stressed users on here... :D

So if I want to watch the Bond films on TV, I now have to shell out even more money for the movie package...

I've allready got the movie channels. But this makes no different to me, i'd rather watch Bond on DVD than TV.

Yep. Sky wants us to fork out our money for it. Luckily my dad has it and I don't think he's gonna get rid of it any time soon because he seems to like it. Only downside is I've been banned from seeing him for a month, which is fine anyway.

You are correct! There are no ad breaks after the movie starts and before it ends.

It always annoyed me on ITV when they had a ton of adverts, AND showed the news right in the middle. I tried to tape a Bond film once and it didn't tape the end, because they stuck the news right in the middle so it ran out of tape.

Boody Murdoch and his band of money grabbing pen pushing A holes.
I remember in the old days when ITV used to have 3 segments to a 1 hour programme, then SKY came along and now it's 4 thanks to the way they operate. They screwed over ITV digital and the FA with the football and now they dictate when a football game is played. And now they are limiting the chance for those out their in the British public their national rights to watch Bond on what I would call normal TV. Yes we still have Bond on DVD and Video but what about those poor kids sitting at home at weekends with the TV on ITV and no video or DVD, their eyes pinned to the screen as they see the car chases and exotic locations. Murdoch has robbed the next generation of fans.
In this day and age their are to many people who would role over for a £ or $ or 2.

    Damn Murdoch!

Several generations of Bond fans have discovered Bond on Bank holidays, rainy Sundays or when they used to have pride of place on Christmas day. From there their Bond love has grown.

Now? Sky doesnt get the audience of ITV. Tucked away in the schedules available to subscriptions. Its not the same as normal TV. It doesnt get that casual audience that ITV has.

Once again the Murdoch chequebook has won. First the football and sport, the Oscars - all gone to Sky because of the empires giant chequebook. And when they get them they ruin them. Destroy them with commercials or bad scheduling.

This is all part of the Murdoch plan. He and his son want to get their hands on as much of British TV as possible. And whats more they are getting away with it.

Elliot Carver? Nothing to compare with the Murdoch mafia.

Actonsteve, I couldn't agree more. I miss the days when a major film like Bond, shown on Christmas day or a bank holiday could attract a large chunk of the whole population of the UK watching it. There was something special and magical about it being a shared experience. I suppose the whole viewing population has fragmented now and those days can never return.

In my opinion, expanding the number of channels in the UK has been a bad thing. All its done is diluted the budgets available per channel and destroyed most of the superb quality of productions that we used to have in this country.

Everyone should boycott Sky until the football, the film prems, and now Bond, everything Sky has stolen, goes back to free TV.

    .

Do you remembered when they were premiered on TV?

They used to have weeks of adverts beforehand with special ITV trailers featuring the action. So you got a sense of when the film arrived everyone was watching. Certainly everyone at school.

TSWLM and FYEO got the biggest ratings for films on TV. Only beaten by Jaws. Diamonds and Golden Gun were premiered as part of Christmas day and was much a part of Christmas as Del Boy or Dr Who is now. The Connery films on TV in the last seventies got colossal ratings. Even the repeats of the repeats did well.

It was a case of holding back creating huge ratings.

ITV has squandered the golden goose. Their overplaying them has sort of worn the public out so they were booted off to ITV4 but even last year when they did a run on ITV1 on Sundays they got respectable ratings.

Dont get me started on what cable TV has done to the quality of Bri

Live And Let Die in fact has the highest audience in the UK.

Found this quick bit of information at the bottom of one of the articles for this news: Sky Movies review programme 35MM will show the interviews with Craig and Bardem on April 13th at 7.30pm.

    That's tomorrow!

Yes, I remember it well. There were weeks of adverts beforehand. Bond and Solitaire hitting the dirt as bullets sprayed around them was included I remember.

So when it did premiere on Bank holiday Sunday in 1981? 82? The entire country was watching.

The 20th January 1980. It had 23.5 million people watching!

This '00 Heaven' season from the late '90's is what I remember growing up. My first time watching the films, all thanks to ITV:

The adverts were so good. As has already been said, today is the end of an era.

You can't even watch the Bond films on Sky's normal channels, you must have the films package or more likely have to pay to view the films.
