    Mr. Solo?

@pachazo is correct! The answer is Mr Solo from Goldfinger.

Explanations, to put you all out of your misery!

    1. Our asylums are full of people who think they're a spy like me.

Connery refers to people thinking they're Napoleon, which is changed to "a spy like me" - thinking of a spy like Napoleon was meant to make you think of Napoleon Solo.

    2. I provided some nice ham.

Cryptic anagram clue, as with Boris Grishenko in my last offering. NICE HAM is composed of "MACHINE parts".

    3. My name has recently been released.

... by William Boyd. Call yourselves Bond fans? ;)

    4. I had an agreement to marry my squeeze. Til death do us part?

    He had a pressing engagement!

    5. I made a decision that befits my name, like Roald Dahl when he wasn't writing for children.

Roald Dahl's adult autobiography is Going Solo, as Mr Solo does when he opts to take his $1m and leave the other gangsters behind.

    6. Without my assistance there would never have been a famous scene in Bond history... even though I wasn't in it.

Solo provides the laser for the famous table scene.

    7. I won't be needing that new footwear after all.

"That guy Solo's gonna wear a hole in his shoes"

    8. To answer my question: "He can't speak, but he can see where he's going."

Oddjob is described as mute, but when he passes the turning for airport Solo asks him "Are you blind or something?!"

    9. I must be some kind of big guy, but not for long.

He's obviously "big" in crime and in shipping circles, but he ends up crushed into very small pieces.

Well done @pachazo - over to you.

I agree. Wow, it was really difficult but with the explanations it seems so obvious!

This was the clue that made me think it could be him and suddenly everything else fell into place. Although I will admit that I had no idea what the hell clue number two meant!

Please allow me a brief time to put something together. I have someone in mind so it won't take long.

    Shall we begin?

    1) Things didn't go as planned but it wasn't necessarily my fault.

I'm afraid that is also incorrect. Perhaps it's time for another clue then.

    1) Things didn't go as planned but it wasn't necessarily my fault.

    2) I caught someone off guard and then someone caught me off guard.

    3) I am not shy about expressing my personal opinion towards a certain individual.

    4) I did what I was told to do. In hindsight, perhaps I shouldn't have.

    5) What goes up must come down. I didn't particularly enjoy either part of it.
