I'm not optimistic re Haines bodyguard since some clues really don't seem to fit.

I'd say not. He falls off the top of the building (and actually survives) only to be shot in the chest.

"If you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen." A fire erupts on the stove when GHB is chasing Bond through the kitchen.

On the bottom of the screen that M and Tanner are watching, there is information scrolling underneath GHB's picture. One of the little tidbits reads Possible Cardiac Arrest.
6) Yogi was right. It's like déjà vu all over again.
The scene is very reminiscent of Bond and Sandor from TSWLM.

"Piss off." His one and only big line.

Later in the film, Mathis is surprised that Bond doesn't know who Guy Haines is.

GHB failed to hit Bond. After he fell and became the target himself, one of Greene's men shot him easily.

Bond doesn't even say a word to defend himself after M accuses him of shooting GHB.

It was a trap indeed. Bond was waiting for GHB at the top of the stairs and got the jump on him.

Because of the fast pace, it's difficult to tell exactly when GHB enters the chase. He is not with Greene's men in the beginning. He comes through a side door in the kitchen.

Bond tells GHB to drop his gun. Maybe he should have put up more of a fight.

So Guy Haines is a member of Quantum, but what about the bodyguard? How much does he know?

M restricts Bond's movements, cancels his cards and passports after she learns of GHB's death.

A reference to both Tosca and Chang falling into the piano from a great height in MR.
Truth be told, I was starting to run out of clues. I thought this might give it away.

Not sure who you mean off the top of my head. The CR goon who is Bond's first kill, or the alias in YOLT? Either way it's nobody by that name.
