The mother of the boy that has the balloons that Bond scares in TLD?!?!??

Edit- I think perhaps it's the boy himself?

    Seems correct

Well done @pachazo it is Boy with Balloons (TLD)

    1. I’ve been trained many times for just this situation ...
    2. ... and I’m following the standard operating procedure to the letter ...
children are taught from an early age not to talk to strangers and run away from danger

    3. ... Which is more than can be said for Bond in this instance
pulling a gun on an innocent child isn't usual policy

    4. I have my hands full on this occasion, literally
holding balloons and his mother's hand

    5. This is turning into the opposite of what it is supposed to be
less a fun fair, more of a fright fair

    6. I’m caught in an act of affection with a member of the opposite sex
    holding hands with mother

    7. Bond, myself and Bond’s companion are all seen doing the same thing within seconds of each other
    Bond, boy, Kara all running

    8. Bond and I share the same feeling on first meeting, but for different reasons
shock - the boy thinks he’s about to be shot, Bond because he wasn't expecting a child

    9. If you’re on the right track, you’ll find me close to Agatha
the John Barry track for this scene is Murder at the Fair, reminiscent of Agatha Christie’s well known story, Murder at the Vicarage

    10. Both Bond and I do the opposite of something we have just done seconds before
the boy runs back the way he has just come, and Bond holsters the gun he has just drawn

    11. It seems Bond has a problem with heights
the hedge prevents him seeing who is holding the balloons

    12. I’ve seen Bond doing something he’s never done in any other Bond film ...
    13. ... and it’s something I’m sure Bond would never want to do again
aiming a gun at a child

    14. Bonus picture clue
the flag is made up of the four colours of balloon that the boy holds

    15. I’m determined not to let go no matter what
keeps hold of balloons even when running away

    16. Those around me seem to have no situational awareness whatsoever
the people walking past don't pay any attention to what is going on

    17. I’ve got three more of these than Bond had and mine are still working!
    18. ...although his had an extra feature that mine are lacking
the boy holds four balloons, Bond had one but burst it, and that one had the message 'Spiert Spionem' written on it

    19. I’m wearing something that connects me to the villain of the scene, but it’s not Bond’s style
(the boy wears a denim jacket, Necros wears denim jeans)

    20. I don’t give Bond the chance to introduce himself ... or apologise ... or say anything at all for that matter
runs away before Bond can say anything

    21. You only see me at night self explanatory
    22. And always in the company of another self explanatory

Congrats and over to you! :)

I got stuck on clue 14 and thought about various false flag operations as there is no such flag. It works in context of the Smiert Shpionem tag on Saunders, but the scene never crossed my mind. Good job, both!

Thank you all. Great choice of character @Max_The_Parrot. That whole sequence at the fair is definitely one of my favorite parts in TLD!

Interestingly enough, every time I thought I was on to something clue #6 stopped me in my tracks. I just couldn't make it all fit. Finally, when you provided the last set of clues, I started going through all the night scenes I could think of and wouldn't you know it, I saw those balloons and connected all the dots.

Okay, I'll get the next round going as soon as I can.

@pachazo it’s one of my favourite scenes as well. I like to choose characters or scenes that I connect with, makes it more fun devising clues and seeing them in a new light. Look forward to seeing what you cook up for us! :)

It's the last great scene in the picture.

There are more great scenes for me.
Fascinating how you could find so many interesting (and still very trick!) clues for such a short appearance @Max_The_Parrot
Well done @pachazo. This means that the next round will be a tricky one, too.

Maybe the Pushkin scene, if its comes after (my mind may be getting things out of order at the moment). And I do like Bond's showdown with Whitaker (I remember in the theatre thinking, thanks mainly to Barry's score, this part finally feels like a traditional Bond film).

Yes the Pushkin scene. I definitely prefer the cargo net action compared to the finale against Whitaker.

One day when I have a year to spare I'm going to go back to the beginning and add who won each round to our Characters Played list.

I always thought that you and Tokoloshe2 dominate this thread. But then suddenly a bird landed...

Just as a quick aside before the next round kicks off, has anyone considered changing how the thread works so that instead of the winner setting the next round, people are chosen from a ‘waiting list’. I was thinking this might be a better way of getting a wider range of people involved, and particularly those who might not be on the forum every single day it might mean they are able to get involved in the setting as well as the guessing more.

One possibility could be adding a ‘waiting list’ to the ‘characters played list’ that @Birdleson posts. If you want to be on the waiting list you just post a message asking to be added (some people might like to permanently on the list until further notice). Every time a round is won, the player at the top of the waiting list is next and we can see where we are in the list when the ‘characters played list’ appears every other round (of course someone else could maintain the list, it wouldn’t have to be @Birdleson - I just used him as the example).

No worries if people don’t think it’s a good idea, just thought I’d throw it out while we wait for the new round - this is my favourite thread and I enjoy both setting and guessing clues so it just got me thinking!

Personally, I'd rather stay as it is. It's the reward of solving the riddle; you get to play your own riddle. I wouldn't want it any other way. I know that a lot of members don't participate because the clues and competition have gotten to a level that isn't friendly for the casual participant; but that's where we are. Those of us who have stuck with it (well beyond the few members listed above, there are at least six other top tier players on here) are pretty serious and pretty good and, I think, care that the quality of the game doesn't become compromised. Which I see happening under your scenario.

You could start a different type of game in a new thread with those parameters, but I'd ask that it not be too redundant. Maybe some other aspect aside from characters; like scenes or moments, or a quicker game involving multiple choice. Something that makes it distinct beyond how the next round's leader is chosen.

I'm definately not a top tier player here, but I've managed to secure awin at least twice, which gave me an increadable kick (and panic, to come up with a riddle myself! ;-) )
It wouldn't be as rewarding ( to know I managed to outsmart the top players :-D ) if the system was altered.

    On to the next round!

It is true, that the level is very high and therefore the thread isn't attractive for some members. On the other hand, if we change it to Max' suggestion (which is a really good and justified thought!) it wouldn't be the same for the regular players. As Birldeson said: to play the own riddle is the reward. My first win was a VERY good feeling (I know, it's only a game, but I like to win sometimes and to be a quizmaster is a highlight for me).

If someone has several wins in a short time, there is still the possibilty to give someone else the chance to step in for once. Tokoloshe2 did this a few month ago.

I see, this is definitely more than a simple game for you @Birdleson . More than 50 wins in the guess the character, this would look good in a CV. Impressive stuff and I can understand your passion. Bond and riddles, that is a perfect combination.

Tokoloshe and Pachazo both have near 100 wins. What’s a CV?

Curriculum Vitae: when there is a job you are interested in, then you have to write where you worked before your special talents...like the master of guess the character sounds good on everey paper ;)
How do you call a CV in the US?

Thank you, your comments make it clear how this thread is a source of personal pride and has become more than a simple way to pass the time. I can understand and respect that, and appreciate that it has been running over a long time and many pages, during which you’ve all built up a strong camaraderie and a way of doing things.

Once again I’m sorry if my comment came across as a criticism, it really was just meant as a friendly thought, if it came across as any other way that’s my fault.

I was the beneficiary of one of @Tokoloshe2’s ‘passing the shoe’ occasions, and you were all kind enough to accept my request and give me the first opportunity to set clues. It was an appreciated gesture that allowed me the chance to feel like a ‘part of the team’ rather than a newbie gatecrashing the party - and I hope I’ve repaid that favour by taking it seriously and trying to set challenging puzzles.

Thanks and hope you’ll still have me around! :)

With all these new comments, I thought you guys had carried on without me! I loved the discussion though.

As for my two cents, I'd also prefer to keep things the way they are. I actually remember trying to pass my turn off one time because i was busy and there were no takers, so it's not always guaranteed that someone new is chomping at the bit.

This thread has always and will always appeal to only a small portion of forum members for a variety of reasons and that's okay. For those of us who have been playing for years now, we have seen many faces come and go. There are the regulars, the semi-regulars and those who play for a short while and never return. I really wish some members would come back and then there's a very select few who... well, the less said about them the better!

Anyway, all are welcome here. I'm glad a new suggestion was brought up for discussion. The game might be intimidating for new players, but I'm not sure what else can be done about it. They just have to jump in and see if they can swim in the deep end.

Alright, let's get back to it!

Can you guess this Eon Character?

    1) I'm not Naomi, but is it time to say goodbye?
    2) Bond will leave me to tidy up.
    3) Goldfinger had a song about this situation.
    4) I came close to touching something I shouldn't be touching.
In fact, I just might have.
    5) We are in the same place and also different places at the same time.
    6) Even though my goal wasn't accomplished, there was a consolation prize.
    7) I'm definitely not curious about what's in the basket.
    8) Backing up before I leave is a must.
    9) Take a good look at my hands.
    10) Someone else decided to give it a go after me.

    11) It's safe to say that I didn't go out the same way I came in.
    12) Two out of the three of us who began the scene together will be dead by the end (of the scene).
    13) Absolutely perfect timing from Bond.
    14) Spinning.
    15) I wasn't able to appreciate the fruits of my labor.
