All this talk about the series moving on from Q and Moneypenny is just ridiculous. Really, you guys? You know what? Let's get rid of the entire M character, too. Times are a changin' right? As a matter of fact, why should Bond have the '007' service number anymore? That's a relic of the sixties and seventies after all...please. Just, please.

I know I'm on the slippery slope, but are you guys all for real? Times have moved on from Q and Moneypenny? Give me a break.

Oh, and I love Casino Royale like no other. I admit it was interesting to have Q and Moneypenny absent, Bond was just starting out and I accepted that it would take a film or two to get everyone properly introduced. Just like putting the gun barrel in a slightly different place, CR was kind of innovative. But Quantum of Solace could have easily had a Q scene when M and Bond are finding out where Slate was on that futuristic, over designed computer.

Anyway, yes, I think Q and Moneypenny need to come back. Don't shoehorn them in for the sake in keeping with tradition, but nearly 20 films managed to have both a Q and Moneypenny scene without feeling forced. Why, all of a sudden are they 'outdated'? I simply don't understand.

    Opinions =/= fact.

@SJK91, I agree with you. We better just scrap Bond entirely, and come up with a new character. He's such a relic of the old times.

Whether Q and MP return is up to them, not us. If they don't, I'll slightly miss it, but I won't rain hell over others about it. If they do return, it'll be very nice and nostalgic to see them on the big screen once again.

    Bring on Skyfall.

As Call me Dave would say......"calm down dear...."
And you should stop sounding like your opinion on Q and MP is a fact. That's all I'm saying.

Yes, instead of the dull no-named character in QOS that tell Bond and M where Slate is, how about put the much more memorable Q character in ?

    Oh the irony.....
I'm sorry? I always say in my posts that I am telling my opinion. You should do the same.

Sorry, but I genuinely dont believe Q and Ms Moneypenny were missed in the last two films (which is my opinion).

The Spooks technology which is available to agents nowadays minimalises the need for gadgetary as the entire globe has Ipads and such knowledge of gadgets in every day life. Q Branch isn't special anymore - its on the high street.

So is it basically confirmed that Q and Moneypenny will not be in Skyfall? They released a cast list without them yes, but is it an exhaustive list?

Those are the main cast members though. Q and Moneypenny were always secondary characters, so it's possible they could still have an appearance.

Well it looks like it. But if they going to be in it I close this post soon & title it As Moneypenny & Q must return in Bond 24.. I missed those 2 character in last 2 Bond movies.

OK, I misinterpreted your comment. You do want them both in Skyfall. I like the characters a lot but hesitate about them both being in this one. I don't want to cram in characters without real relevance in the plot (still hoping for a great script as we keep hearing it is ...).

It good that Q was announced but still no Moneypenny. That is very disappointing.

It has been a long-running rumour, ever since she was first whispered to be joining the cast of the 23rd James Bond film, but now the <a href="http://www.dailymail.co.uk/tvshowbiz/article-2074882/A-New-Age-healer-mother-obsession-raw-food-Naomie-Harris--A-modern-Miss-Moneypenny.html"; target="_blank">Daily Mail</a> is being as brazen as to <i>stating</i> that Naomie Harris will be playing Miss Moneypenny.

In a theory long touted by fans, the paper reports, "She starts as a field operative called Eve and then comes inside the organisation as Miss Moneypenny, M’s right-hand woman."

Daniel Craig previously hinted that Q and Moneypenny would return in his third outing, now titled "Skyfall". Ben Whishaw has already been confirmed as playing the gadget master.

i was wondering if this was the case before when they announced her as Eve ^
  • I still do not think Moneypenny would go from a field agent to a desk job...does it work? maybe maybe not.....or they are still looking for an actress for Miss.Moneypenny which could always announce later on...or Moneypenny does not come back at all and wait for Bond 24 to return

The Daily Mail have been insisting she is Moneypenny simply because they committed to it early on. They evidently feeling that recanting now is more damaging that continuing and being proven wrong. At the press conference, the "question" (all five of them) from Baz Bamigboye was clearly intended to get Harris to admit that she would be Moneypenny, and he was probably hoping that if she did not do it straight away, then someone would pick up where he left off and get it out of her. The entire Q&A session revolved around this (which made it pretty boring).

Harris has been quoted as saying Eve thinks she is an equal to 007, but in reality is far fom it. I can't see Babs and co (in this equal rights/politically correct era of Bond) giving us another Rosie Carver from LALD who is full of mistakes and stupidness next to Bond. To me, there has to be a purpose to Eve's flaws. Perhaps it is Moneypenny.

Q has been confirmed but no one in the Bond camp has denied or confirmed she is playing Moneypenny, simply confirmed Eve. If the Bond team are going with the Eve becomes Moneypenny route, they won't be releasing that kind of plot twist publicly so I feel its a debate which will run on and on...
  • my thought is how much do we all really want to know? By the time the movie comes we will know everything. I just want a bit of a surprise...but hey ho I shouldn't be on this board then.

What they could have done is just came out with the cast and characters straight away and then just get on with it.

Or perhaps she tries to walk, talk and act like Bond, but when the time comes to actually do something, she finds she is out of her depth. It could be something like freezing in the middle of a firefight, or missing an opportunity in the middle of a car chase or some such.

If she doesn't have what it takes to be a field agent, she wouldn't be one in the first place. I doubt MI6 would let someone become a field agent only to find later that they're not capable of doing it and reposition them.

There are field agents, and there are Double-Oh agents. Bond operates at a higher level than a normal field agent. Eve "thinks she is Bond's equal, but is really his junior". So she could easily be a conventional field agent who takes it upon herself to act and operate at the same level as Bond when they are in the field, only to discover that she does not have what it takes.

I'm sure it takes a lot of training and many tests to become a field agent. And that's to make sure they won't blow a mission while on the field. That's their difference with office-stationed agents. The Double-0 agents are a handful of field agents allowed to kill at will in order to complete a mission (plus higher level training and access to more information).

If Eve hadn't passed the field agent tests, they would have positioned her at an office.

Now, supposing she's not allowed to engage in firefight for example and yet she does, I highly doubt MI6's reaction would be like "Don't worry, random field agent, it's ok you disobeyed orders. We'll make you M's secretary".

Maybe they have been insisting she is Moneypenny because they know she is Moneypenny...

By the way, one of our fellow forum members, Col. Sun (who is known to have insider knowledge) wrote on another forum that "Eve is Moneypenny". I think we can trust him.
  • If it's true that Eve is Moneypenny, then that WOULD be a pretty large plot twist. Why on earth would they reveal that to Naomie Harris before she was even cast?

Perhaps originally she auditioned for Moneypenny, but was given the part of a Bond girl instead? If the Eve-Moneypenny thing is just a rumor (which I hope it is), there's got to be some sort of a reason behind it.

Or maybe they have been insisting on it because they didn't break the news that Naomie Harris would be in the film. Harris openly admitted that she was talking with EON, and so The Daily Mail knew that every other publication out there would run the story - so they decided they needed to punch it up a little bit and so ran something that they knew other newspapers wouldn't: claiming that she was Moneypenny, and thus giving them an exclusive, because they knew full well that there are idiots out there who will believe everything they say if they get one or two details right.

I have to say this: Even if Eve is indeed Moneypenny, I can't judge it before I see it on film. The only thing I can say is I don't like the idea, but I don't have all the facts to have a full opinion. I have to see how they do it first. I mean, I hated the idea of Craig being Bond before seeing the first Casino Royale trailer. Now I love him as Bond.

Bottom line: if Eve is Moneypenny, they'd better do it right and convince me (and the audience in general).
  • It's not entirely beyond the realms of imagination that, in order to keep the return of Moneypenny a secret for as long as possible, Naomie Harris was told to supply us with a little mis-direction at the press conference, after all, they couldn't have her sitting at the top table unable to answer any questions at all, so why not give her a cover story to keep the journalists off the scent.....?

Its a very common practice here in the states for field agents to become analysts. It wouldn't be a far stretch to imagine one becoming the personal secretary, aka secret holder to M. Even in the US military as you move up in rank you do less and less field work.

Well? On the lady front then? I guess bond only sleeps with Severine then? As we all know that Moneypenny and Bond have never had an intimate relationship much to her distress! :(( So will Bond be a one woman man again in SF? :-?

My gut feeling is telling me Harris/ Eve is Moneypenny. Hate The Daily Mail as I do (and I certainly do), but I'm beginning to think thanks (and/ or no thanks) to Baz Bamigboye's probing they know their beans here and are - repeatedly - revealing to us a SF character twist.

Although, of course, my gut could be completely wrong... ;)
