If you don't like his Bond, fair enough, it's your own opinion. But I set up this thread so people who did like his Bond could talk about him without having negative comments about him like on other threads.
Indeed!
Indeed; just like The Tailor of Panama.
He is excellent in TOP. He completely holds his own in the midsts of a strong cast.
Fair enough TLR, but knowing how people are around here, good luck with that. I promise to be kind.
Remington Steele went a long way towards Cubby wanting Pierce to replace Sir Roger. I know he liked his look going back to FYEO, but the popularity of the series brought Pierce a lot of recognition that could bring in a crowd. Business-wise, it was a smart move to hire him to be Bond whether in 1986 or in 1994.
I must say I like Pierce better in his non-Bond films. The Thomas Crown Affair was a great remake of the McQueen original, if he had been able to play Bond in the manner he played Crown, I probably would be a bigger fan. I liked him in Dante's Peak too although they were parts where he overacted a bit. I also like Taffin quite a lot which probably makes me a minority but maybe Alison Doody has something to do with that hahaha.
As far as Bond films, I enjoyed his first two efforts but all in all he remains my 5th favorite of the 6 actors. I don't entirely fault him for that as in general he was passable, he was indeed saddled with some piss poor scripts in the last two films.
That is how I like to think he would have played Bond if the lackluster scripts didn't hold him back so much. We never really got to see what Brosnan wanted to get out of the role, because there was always something in his way.
I personally don't feel that that would have been an appropriate way to play Bond, but it would have been interesting to see.
Bond himself shares many traits of a sociopath, and I think Brozzer could have performed that well.
I think you're totally right, but question whether that would have been a viable move for the series.
I would love to see Brozza in more of these flawed roles though. He is very good at them and when cast properly is quite a compelling screen actor.
I really like Pierce as an actor in other films as well. For any brosnan lovers I strongly suggest the film ,"Seraphim Falls". If you're unaware of its story simply Google it. It's a really good flick and Brosnan actually has many bondian moments in it, if not more bondian than his official bondian moments.
Back to Brozzy Bond, I find it upsetting that Brosnan was fed scripts such as in TND & DAD. EON misused Brosnan in my opinion. Pierce deserved better writing and overall alot better than what he got. TWINE was a glimpse of what the brosnan era could have been. It seems to me that EON wanted to go in more of a serious direction with TWINE, but just couldnt completely let go of some things and it meshed oddly, as for DAD I absolutely have no idea what the hell they were thinking, dear god, but as bad as DAD was the beginning was promising but that was about it.
My biggest plot hole in DAD is when Pierce escapes the Mi6 freighter / big ass boat and somehow manages to find a cruise ship, not only just a cruise ship but one that is managed by a friend , is able to swim in the pitch black sea, climb aboard a cruise ship and manage to just go from cave man bond to normal suave bond in a matter of minutes. lol such terrible writing.
but on a positive note GE and TWINE are memorable films to me and Im glad Brosnan was once bond.
TND was a major disappointment to me though, Bruce feirstien is a lousy writer in my opinion. The whole bloodstone story was silly, bloodstone should have been written by someone els...Back to TND, reasons I dislike it-
wai Lin - too much of her was incorporated, and a woman beating up men just doesn't fit well with me, I want to see bond kick ass, not a chinese woman.
Eliot Carver- just was a silly character to me, couldn't take him seriously
The whole atmosphere of TND just felt odd to me
Too much action, and the plot was just blandishly farfetched.
Absolutely. He was very MacGyver like throughout the film, using all of his wit and talent to kill, stop, or halt those chasing him. I loved it.
"No owls in Los Organos. Nothing to see till the morning...not out there anyway"
I will chip in wit some things I like about Brosnan and remember I did a review of TWINE for a website in 2002 where I described him as a "superstar". It was never really him, it was generally the films he got.
For a start is very good looking. I mean the kind of looks which stick out in a crowded room. He's not classically handsome like Rog or Tim but the looks have a kind of fey celtic quality. I suspect he has had girls sniffing around him as soon as he reached his teens. He also kept his figure until recently, he used to be on a diet of fish and salad which allowed him to stay slim until his fifties.
One of the keys to Bond is intelligence. I believe that with the Brosnan Bond - that the mind is working behind the eyes. That he's working out what is going on and is one step ahead of anyone. They all have that in one capacity or another.
The charm. Pierce has gone on record and said that as a person he worked on the charm. During his student days in the seventies. It worked. You watch him on interviews and he does charm the pants off people. Charm still gets you a long way in life. There is a thin line between charm and smarm and Pierce does cross it on occasion but I blame the scripts.
Another reason? He's a Londoner. He may be from Ireland but he was raised and schooled in Putney. I sometimes catch bits of the accent. He plays up the Irish roots (particularly on US TV) but I once read an interview where he said he missed British pubs. His student years were in London. I have seen pictures of him busking with a beard outside Camden Town tube.
He's not a bad lad. He comes across in interviews and is a good raconteur of stories. I would sit down in a pub with him. I expect he is good company.
I thought this was an appreciation thread ?
Besides, @0Brady, you never saw my appreciation thread for Brosnan I started on the old mi6forums !! the title was 'Perfection once walked upon this earth - The Brosnan appreciation thread !'
I'm sure 99% of the world's population would punch you in the face if you said 'Sean Connery is a douchebag' or 'Roger Moore is a repulsive person'. Same thing if you said 'Liam Neeson was effeminate in Taken'... there are things that just can't be said.

Also, "Sir Top-and-Hat"? In my day it was "The Fat Controller" (and I'm only 26)
Damn political correctness :p
We are not bending your arm to make your posts here. We are not trying to change minds or anything. We just want to comment about why we do appreciate Brosnan. If no appreciation, then please comment on other threads, that's all. It would be nice for a thread to stay positive as a genuine appreciation thread for once. If there were a Lazenby is the Best Bond Ever thread, I might read it a bit but I would not post my honest negative feelings on that thread, just out of respect for the thread trying to be a positive appreciation of someone.
