Happy Birthday to the only actor who took the Fleming books seriously, and did his damned best to interpret the true Fleming Bond character, resulting in two of the best films of the franchise.

Re-watched the excellent Hot Fuzz last night. Loved TDalt in this film. He plays bad guys so well. And it's clear he enjoys parts like this.
    9a448f92c052b7978feba5be6fdb8f79.jpg

Looking through the trivia for the film on IMDB, it also shows what a true pro Dalton is, if anyone ever had any doubts.
    From IMDB
The filming of Angel and Skinner's first meeting at the supermarket was filmed over the course of two days. The conversation was filmed entirely from Timothy Dalton's perspective first. The next day, early in the morning, they were to film the conversation with Angel's perspective and close-ups. Dalton, much to the surprise of the crew, showed up early the next morning, and even though he wasn't going to be on camera for that particular portion of the filming, he sat off-camera in Skinner's chair and played the role so that Simon Pegg would be able to have him to work with while filming his part as Angel. Pegg stated it really showed Dalton's professionalism.

    From IMDB
Timothy Dalton has said this film, particularly the sequence where Skinner and Angel are shooting at each other during the chase, was the most fun he's ever had on a film. Jim Broadbent stated it was a thrill for him to be driving "James Bond" around during that sequence. Simon Pegg also stated the sequence and the fistfight between Angel and Skinner was the same type of thrill for him to shoot, staying it was very much in the front of his mind that he was being shot at, and fighting with "James Bond".

    From IMDB
The character of Simon Skinner having a mustache was Timothy Dalton's idea, and was not specifically written for the character. Dalton thought that it would add an extra bit of sleaze to the character, and it hearkened back to his days of playing Prince Barin in Flash Gordon (1980).

One of the many reasons I really enjoy watching Timothy Dalton onscreen, no matter how large or small the part. He really gets into the role.

Shame he doesn't get more decent roles.

I am assuming pegg was a dalton as bond fan before hot fuzz

Had the pleasure of watching a mid-way cut of LTK with Timothy Dalton, Cubby, and Maurice Binder in attendance with Bond editing team in Pinewood's Theatre 7. Dalton was very friendly and down to earth and I remember he was very pleased with the way the film was shaping up. At that stage the cut still had the scene with Bond alone in the hotel room, smoking and watching TV news report on Sanchez (on deleted scenes of BluRay) and a slightly longer cut of the tanker chase and Bond snarling, "Felix Leiter" before igniting Sanchez with the cigarette lighter. And also all the dialogue with Leiter at the end which gave the scene a more melancholy feel, before it was trimmed to be lighter and upbeat. Wish the original version of that scene had remained as it was.

I used to think the bond 17 treatment about the robots sounded awful but having learned a little more about it - that they were industrial robots - I think it might have been okay. Quite 80s but still potentially interesting.

Also love the idea of Dalton in the Far East.

    Ridley Scott to direct please.

Dalton's never really had a "big" director to his name (a.la. Ridley Scott)

I'm not sure if he is specifically a fan of Dalton's Bond (unless Pegg has said so), but I think it is safe to assume that he is a Bond fan in general. It can't be a coincidence that Pegg cast another Bond in another film.

I love Simon Pegg, a huge fan of him since SPACED which I followed religiously on the telly.
Thank Pegg for that fantastic treatment on DVD of that ridiculously overlooked (outside the UK) masterpiece of a show.

Pegg has been acting together with:

Timothy Dalton in Hot Fuzz (2007)
    Daniel Craig in Tintin 2011)
Pierce Brosnan in The World's End (2013)

Craig may be coincidence but still.

I have to re-watch SPACED with the Homage-O-Meter on. That's not a joke, you can turn it on while watching and it'll tell you every single reference to other films.

As I said, great DVD treatment.

Watch this but prepare for being in stitches.

I am curious how it would be welcomed if Dalton played a baddie in a future 007 outing, he does baddies very well.

Lazenby is the only Bond who could stand a chance of doing it successfully without it looking gimmicky. The others are far too big a names.

It would only give ammo to the subscribers of the Codename Theory. I'm siding with Getafix. No past Bond's cameoing in future Bond movies.
  • That laugh he shares with Sanchez and his hoods in LTK is pretty damn cool and sinister. Dalton was a great Bond who did nothing to shame the franchise, unlike his predecessor.

I don't have an answer to that. Maybe it's like what Barbara Hershey has said, that she has never been in the possition to be choosy about what roles she takes on. Or like Stacy Keach, who while never being a big star, has had a more varied career than many so called "A-list" actors.

The only way Dalton is appearing in a Bond movie is as James Bond.

    EON - do it now!
