Happy Father's Day!

Happy Father's Day to all my fellow Dad's out there. I actually like "Dad's Day" better , as I always remember the phrase "Any man can be a father, but it takes a good man to be a Dad". My plans, taking Alex to Bethlehem PA, where he will see his very first Bond movie on the really big screen, appropriately, it's the iconic Goldfinger. It's been 40 years since I last saw it in a theater setting, I think I am almost as excited as he is!

Thanks Creasy! Going to meet another Bondaholic there, having dinner first, then the movie. I know we are going to enjoy ourselves.

I was outside helping my Dad for an hour or so in the garden this morning, until the gnats drove me absolutely insane. You can't open your eyes or stand still for a minute without nineteen of them dive-bombing your nose, eyes, and mouth.

Creasy, you showed you're a good son by helping your Dad despite the conditions.

@ Master Dahark- Make sure you always protect yourself. If what you use doesn't work, try another brand. You cannot be too safe these days.

Anyway, last night's big screen showing of the ICON, Goldfinger, was a blast. First of all, we got a brief speech from a college student involved with creating the summer series there of WHY GF is so iconic and WHY it is the only Bond film to have made so many prestigious lists of must-see films.

The film was then shown in it's original pristine form, celluloid 35mm. He noted that the industry is going entirely digital at this point and that it will soon be impossible to see these older films in this format. When it came on, I quickly realized how spoiled we are nowadays with Blu-Ray and Ultimate DVD, but it was ultimately very cool because it took me back with much nostalgia to when I was a kid and all films were made this way.

My son also truly enjoyed his first Bond on the big screen as well and it was a memorable and fun Father's Day for me, which I was glad about because it was my first without my wife and I was a little depressed.

I am deeply sorry to hear about your wife, @SirHenryLeeChaChing, but am glad that you and your son had a blast watching GF. Get him to watch all the Connery films, so he knows how it's done. ;)

Oh, he's seen all the films on UVD on a 46" Sony Bravia with a badass soundbar. He's pretty spoiled. Sir Sean is his 2nd favorite after Craig. His favorite film is Casino Royale. I want him to form his own opinions and not adopt mine, hence Octopussy is also one of his favorites.

Thanks for the condolences. One day at a time with that...if I was a good Dad and provider to my kids, I did as good as I can expect to do that day. The pain is never very far away and I can only hope it will get easier with time.

Congratulations!!! You are a father. Being a Dad is a whole other story. It's a lot of hard work, believe me.

I forgot to mention that when the student was giving his speech last night, he mentioned that Sir Sean's granddaughter asked him about 20 years after he had last seen one of his Bond movies if he would view one with her, and she asked him to pick the movie. I know he has said that FRWL was his personal favorite, but he picked Goldfinger as their movie to watch.

He has great taste! That's great to hear that you are letting him find out what he truly loves in regards to Bond.
