The Pierce Brosnan Era- Rankings

edited June 2012 in Bond Movies Posts: 4,762
There is a really popular thread on the bondandbeyond.forumotion.com discussion forum similiar to this, so I thought I'd bring it here to MI6 and see what we get. In short, the categories are Bond Performance, Movies, Main Villains, Henchmen, Girls, Soundtracks, Pre-Title Sequence, and Title Song. Rank them according to your preference, and it should sort of sum up how you view the Brosnan era. Here's mine:

4. Die Another Day

@PrinceKamalKhan You can't rate favorite film releases in segments or parts, I mean it has to be the entire movie as a whole for sure? :-/

Why not? It's my rankings and that's how I see them.

I would give all the above to Brosnan's first film, GE.
It has the best villian, the best henchmen/woman, the best Bond girl, the only thing that GE falls to another film in the Brosnan age is the PST which I give to TWINE. That boat chase on the Thames, Cigar girl, the escape from the Swiss bank. TWINE has the best PST of Brosnan's films but I give the rest of the categories to GE. Song, soundtrack.

I won't bother about ranking the other films or categories and where they fall. they are all forgettable and just kinda blend together.

"One of the worst days of your life" - ever the dramatist (as usual) :)) :))

Tell me Getafix...which lunatic asylum did they get you out of? ;)

You're in the minority. I dout even people who weren't fond of it would describe it as "torture". DAD on the other hand, I can understand.

I mean, I respect your opinion @Getafix, and don't want to hurt your feelings, but why do you not like the Brosnan movies so much? Is it just him?

TND is by far and away Brozza's best film. The others are of rapidly decreasing quality. But I still rank TND below any other Bond movie as I could never stand Brosnan's 'take' on Bond. If you simply can't stand the central actor it's difficult to appreciate the movies.

You hate him so much yet you have a relatively handsome pic of him :)) :))

I for one always found him entertaining. Even in his crap made for tv films he had a smile that could charm the pants off you (and I'm a bloke). A fairly intelligent work colleague thinks Taffin is "amazing" and when I asked him who he preferred between Brosnan and Craig he looked at me with UTTER contempt before saying Brosnan (he hates Craig).

I don't agree with him btw but Brosnan must have SOMETHING if he's still fondly regarded. I actually have a sneaking suspicion that between him
and Mr Craig, he's the nicer bloke.

You hate him so much yet you have a relatively handsome pic of him :)) :))

I think it's meant to be ironic :))

Deep down, I'm sure that Getafix loves Pierce Brosnan and his 4 films. He just tries to hide his feelings. Maybe he was educated to hate PB. But imo I'm sure Getafix's bedroom is full of Brosnan pictures on the walls.

Every time he types something bad about him on this site, he turns around, looks at his Brosnan shrine and says "please forgive me" :))

My cover's blown. I am actually a closet Brosnanite.

I think I've said it before but just because you seem so concerned, here it is again.

I have nothing against Brosnan. I like the guy and have enjoyed several of his non-Bond movies. Of all the actors apart from Sean, he's the only one who I'd make the effort to watch in something else. However, there is the small problem that from the moment I first saw him in GE in the cinema in 1995 I was utterly, bitterly disappointed by his Bond. At first I blamed the script and direction and thought he just needed another chance. To an extent TND allayed some of my fears. For me it's still the best of his four. But there was still a feeling that Brosnan wasn't up to it. With TWINE and DAD it no longer became possible to blame everything else and ignore the fact that Brosnan just wasn't any good in the role. I expect neither respect, nor agreement, but that's my take on it.
