:)) But why is Tarantino there?
Yeah that's right your clean cut hero with the million dollar smile advocates this kind of thing, I watched that footage of Cruise talking about Scientology and thought it was some kind of spoof but no the man is for real, if they ever wanted to remake The Shining again then Tom's your man, that laugh and his manner I'm seriously disturbed by that far more than I am Nicholson in Kubrick's classic.
I do have to ask why Kate married him in the first place and had a child with him if she knew all about Scientology before hand, I guess she never did much research and was just in awe of the thought of being Mrs Tom Cruise.
Very insightful post, have to agree. Cruise is very much an oddball. The Scientology thing has been widely reported and from what I've read, it is quite creepy and disturbing. It seems less a religion and more of cult. It is widely known that Katie had a crush on him growing up and I think the idea of being married to her Hollywood a-lister dream man went to her head & she ignored the weird Scientology aspect. She was raised as a Catholic and has made the decision she would rather her daughter be a catholic than a member of a crazed cult.
Yes, we are all speculating but I lean towards what was said here by both of you. We really don't know, we do not know these people. It seems that Katie had this whirlwind romance with a movie star she had a crush on for years, got pregnant pretty quickly, and just threw herself into it wholeheartedly. She was 26 years old. You know when you are in love, it is easy to be blind to many things. Even if she was presented with full evidence about Scientology (who knows?) she probably said I love him and that's not what he is about.
I remember at the time reading that her dad (Catholic and I think a lawyer) was really upset. And I remember Tom saying that you can be a Christian and a Scientologist, and I thought ... huh? Anyway, of course I hope her family rallies around her now, and I hope the Scientologists do leave her and Suri alone. Bet they keep a close watch on them, but I pray they are left alone and Tom also requests that they be allowed to live their own lives now. I do hope she gets sole custody, but doubt it somehow.
The more I read about Scientology, the creepier it seems to me. Same with Tom, unfortunately. I will try to enjoy his films in the future if they seem promising, but really this is all a bit much.
Why some people get married or have a relationship is indeed a mystery, but it seems love makes people blind for reality or flaws. Which is a good thing otherwise most of us wouldn't stand a snowballs chance in hell to get married or have a relationship. ;)
But whatevs, I'll always love Top Gun, the Mission Impossible series and so many others. I hear Rock of Ages is especially good, and I will see it when I get the opportunity
Just watched Ghost Protocol this weekend with my dad-- I had promised him that this was by far the best M:I movie- and everyone enjoyed it.
As true as I am sitting here, I have never seen Days Of Thunder, I could be the only one on the planet, and that goes for Eyes Wide Shut also
I would prefer Katie for that last sentiment. :\">
Ah, you would say that...
I just might have to join you in doing that.
Oh, I watched both 'Sherlock Holmes' films back to back last night, and 'A Game of Shadows' was so much better than what I thought of the film during my cinema viewing of it last year. Incredibly enjoyable, a few little things I spotted from the BBC show were in the movie, and the fight scenes were much better than I had recalled. I want to rewatch it, but don't want to wear myself out from too many viewings in a small period of time. I'll tease myself with it, like I do with other movies.
And here is a link to the YouTube guys that talked about the film I referenced in a Neo Noir special:

They are great cinephiles like you and me, and discuss a wide range of film. Check their stuff out sometime.
Will do. I, too, have way too many new films I need to attend to, but I just don't know how. Anything I download online never seems to work for me, the internet connection at my house is subpar, so I can never buffer or stream anything properly, and I can't afford Netflix right now because of college. So, I'm stuck in a rut, and am left to watch the great films that I do have in my collection.
Katie Holmes, must think now..
The future

I do wish both Tom and Katie well in the future and I'm glad, for all the kids' sake especially, that it is settled.
I could care less if Tom is gay or not. It's his life and his decision. If you are secure in your own sexuality, it shouldn't be an issue.
I've read L. Ron Hubbard's books and studied various religions as a representative of my faith when participating in interfaith debates. Personally, I believe Scientology resembles a cult more than a religion in it's views. And some people take religion and make cults out of them. In the end, it's all about freedom of religion and it should be considered that Tom is a grown man and entitled to his "religion" whether myself or anyone else agrees or not.
