The reason it didn't start QOS was because it was part 2 of 2 (If you get what i'm saying) having it would have split the movies in two. in 23 it is a stand alone and as pointed out before it is the gold ribbon movie....

Ideally I hope they use the gunbarrel from QoS at the beginning of Bond 23. It looked great.

I'm with JobeGDG on this. The gunbarrel is a signature and I love the fact that it is updated for each film.

The GB just means this is the start of a Bond film and has no other significance apart from that. That said it is a vital part of the whole experience and when its not there it doesnt feel right. I can still remember my disappoinment and bemusement at the age of 8 when NSNA didnt open with it. George Lucas may be rapidly descending into senility with the new Star Wars and Indy films but even he knew you dont f*ck around with the iconic elements that people expect - hence even in the god awful Phantom Menace we still got the text crawl and John Williams music kicking in.

I hate to break it to you Babs but youre never going to win an Oscar love (especially while you keep hiring P&W) so quit ******** about with all the arty cr*p and just deliver up a cracking film with everything in its right place. Cubby and Harry never changed it so why do you with your degree in film studies and your neoptistic leg up in the industry think you know better than blokes who created a cinematic legend from scratch?

I, like most of us would like to see the gun barrel at the beginning. However, i personally hated the gun barrel of QOS, i thought it was quick and boring. Looked quickly made. I think they should redesign it to something similiar to CR something different since craig is a different bond. I think it'd be cool if all of Craig's movies had a different gun barrel too. Having said that, part of me thinks it would be awesome if they re shot it with a real gun barrel again and integrate it with CGI.
  • While the GB in Casino Royale was great for THAT movie I do feel that we should return to the design used in the Brosnan film's, but without the stupid DAD bullet.

QOS was way too fast and the GB looked a little un-inspiring.

Also PLEASE bring back Daniel Kleinman for the titles and hopefully have an title sequence akin to GE. Proof that you can have a stunning title sequence WITHOUT resorting to CGI!!!

Partially agree there. We should return to the established GB formula - that much I accept. But I was never entirely impressed with the CGI version. It's not that I'm whining about CGI deliberately, I just truly don't like the all-too clean, sterile, unnatural effects. I'd prefer to go back to the days of FRWL and GF. Make the BG smaller, make Bond a man without a clearly visible face. Make him shoot with a blast and fade to black before we open our film. The symbolism of me being his target, caught and shot by surprise, is so much stronger expressed, I'd argue, in those old ones.

I want Kleinman back too. The average fan boy with an expensive PC can do what those acid trippers did for QOS. It was terrible, it would work for a video game at best. I don't know who called in which favours but it was a let-down in both departments. Usually, a bad song is slightly compensated by some really good title design. Here we got neither of both, which made it two very painful minutes to sit through. However, we should make it clear that Kleinman also uses CGI. He just knows how to handle it better, that's all. GE's definitely a winner in that respect.

I'm sure the gunbarrel will return, because it has to; and it will probably be like the one at the end of QoS.

Ah yes, the title sequences. Kleinman would be warmly returned. One of the largest elements I didn't like about QOS was the title sequence. It just felt like it was trying to be cool. The song didn't help, as DD said. I think that, again, it is probably GoldenEye that sets the benchmark for modern* title sequences - a benchmark they've got been able to come back to. Though CR was very clever, it didn't have naked girls. :-(

    * Yep, OK, 16 years ago. Man I feel old.

True! ;)) But the least of my concerns. Anything more in the trend of CR would have boosted up QOS' main titles. But the GB needs to be put back into place now, no matter what they say. They're screwing with the legacy of the likes of Peter Hunt and Maurice Binder and that's a religious thing almost to many of us. So unless they really want us to burn down embassies, they better restore the GB. I've never in my life heard people complain about the GB, except when they tried new things with it. The CGI bullet in DAD for example. First time ever I heard people say bad stuff about that. Oh, and its absence from NSNA which, of course, has a perfectly good reason.

One thing is for sure, if they continue like this Craig's era will almost be remembered as the propesterous wanna-be arty era. That's not what I'm hoping for. It's ok for one film (QOS) but after that give us a nice modern Bond film (more like CR or GE). Bring Kleinman back, put the GB in its right place but don't overdo the whole thing or you'll get DAD.

The gunbarrel, as well as Q/Moneypenny needs to back to normal. Bond is now "Bond" again, no need to keep the staples out of the series any longer. They just need to ensure everything doesn't get boring and cheesy all over again.

Putting the gunbarrel back at the beginning would be something I'd love to see Bond 23 open up with to give me confidence about the rest of the film.
