Mainstream Culture has you by the balls...my advice, smoke some weed. It will tear the barriers of your small minded corporate molded mind that has evolved to what it is now due to excessive TV watching and you'll maybe start to see how corporations look at us purely as Cows and dollar signs. EON doesn't make bond movies for true bond fans anymore, they make them to appease to the mass generation of slobs who can no longer think on their own. I call this the "call of duty generation". Kids and people today just buy into anything they're told too. There is no creativity anymore in mainstream culture. Thankgod for the internet and independent artists.
Oh yeah, because the first thing I think of when someone says "the internet" is creativity. 8-| What a joke.

That explains it all, I'm afraid. Next time you go to the cinema, try going sober. The same is valid for other things, including posting comments.
  • @thelivingroyale if I want to see a "fun" movie I'll go see Kung fu panda or maybe rent Mrs.Doubtfire. I dont want to see fun in a james bond movie. Bond is meant to be a field agent, a killer and a loner. Not a "fun" person who quips or makes a cheesy joke every 15 minutes . Were obviously two different kind of Bond fans. Im a Fleming bond fan, not the cinema bond fan.

You're right I do prefer the films to the books but humour has been a big part of the films for a while, you should've expected it. And SF had plenty of Fleming influence in it.
  • my advice, smoke some weed.

Yeah, I'm n my 30s now, not my late teens. I think I'm pretty much past that. You want to watch comments like these, you'll get banned again.

    Stoopid hippies.

SF didn't appeal to you so they don't make the films for Bond fans anymore? Even though plenty of Bond fans on this site enjoyed it?

Besides the beginning PTS in Casino Royale where Bond chases the black guy (Mollaka)
And the collapse of the Venice building, I really cant name any other scenes that seem too unrealistic to me. CR was more serious and didn't have Daniel Craig making stupid ass little jokes and quips every 10 minutes. It showed the ruthlessness of modern day terrorism and my god the torture scene was just executed so wonderfully. IT FOLLOWED FLEMINGS FORMULA. and thats why it blows skyfall away.

I agree in terms of the comedy. The style of humour in CR suits Craig's Bond much better I think. The cheesy quips in SF just don't harmonise with the way he plays the character. It just doesn't sit right. I'm certainly not against humour in Bond films but it must be the right type of humour depending on the tone of the film and the acting style of who is playing Bond. CR had a healthy amount of humour and I love this film.

I still don't understand why the Mods closed down other threads that were specifically set up for people who aren't that keen on SF. I deliberately set up a thread so that people who wanted to could have a full on discussion about the film without annoying the SF fans but that was immediately hijacked by the hardcore Craigites who started spewing their usual venom. Then it (and similar threads) were closed down by the mods who said we all had to post here.

As a result everyone is forced into what I thought was supposed to be a review thread and is at each others throats like ferrets in a sack. It's frankly a highly unpleasant and intolerant atmosphere in here. Normally civilised members are behaving in a way that does them no credit. The SF fans seem to believe they are part of some holy order and that the film is beyond criticism. I have now spoken to enough people outside this site to realise that not everyone is hailing this as an instant masterpiece and some fans' are genuinely disappointed. It would be nice if the majority on here (including seemingly some of the Mods) could deal with the criticisms without shouting people down as 'trolls' (very mature) or the Mods allowed a general thread elsewhere to voice criticisms.

I appreciate that those who enjoyed the film want to engage in a love-in right now. And I'm sure the small minority who aren't that keen on SF would be happy to take their discussion eleswhere. There was a good and civilised discussion taking place here until the Mods closed it:

Agreed, however we know how it is. Love posts in this thread would be picked on by those who don't like the film all that much and negative comments in another thread would be picked on by fans. We'd have mirror discussions spread out over two separate threads. Let's just try and fight the fights here.

i wonder, why we are still trying to address those obvious "meant to annoy" comments at all. It not like this DRESSED TO ANNOY guy has something to say really. In answering, its like giving him credit, he doesn't deserve AT ALL!
And with this, right now, I am just talking about this one poster and not about those, who critisize the film with - a least - halfway decent posts.

Talking to him just prolongs the unpleasant discussion. Did I say discussion? This unpleasant ******

As if I hadn't noticed. Fighting the good fight still, are we?

Looks like the resident self-appointed mod/vigilante is back on patrol.

If I could avoid you I really would you know. Infact that was exactly what I was doing for months until DarthDimi in his infinite wisdom coralled everyone into this piss-streaked mosh pit of a thread.

    piss-streaked mosh pit.
I am sure, you just made a friend for life :D

I said, I wouldn't talk to you anymore and forgot about it. But why then, do YOU answer to my posts, when they were not directed at you, when you are really so keen on avoiding me. My advice - DO IT - avoiding me, that is! And start NOW!
  • edited November 2012 Posts: 11,425
Because when I make a very deliberate effort to avoid you, you and your vigilantes barge in, start shouting a lot and call for it to be closed:

    http://www.mi6community.com/index.php?p=/discussion/4482

In other words, "Give me enough s*** and I will react."

We have a saying in the UK, 'the pot calling the kettle black' and you suit it most perfectly.

@Getafix and @Germanlady, some of those colourful expressions aside (thank you, Getafix :-)), I love you both. The problem is that the bad parts of this thread are often allowed to die out like a tiny flame among the ashes of last night's fire but then one post with a comment that has nothing to do with the topic discussed can light it up again and within three seconds the thread is back on fire. Can't you see that the provocateur is out of line, as is the one who can't resist the temptation to reply to said provocateur's comments? Get a grip on things please and stop playing this cat-and-mouse game.

Also, @Getafix, I have explained why we can't have two threads which, despite their subtly dissimilar intentions, will end up in the same cock fights between SF-bashers and SF-slaves within the span of merely one page. Also, please drop that condescending tone. My wisdom isn't infinite, the energy I invest in this place, however, is. I don't get paid for what I do but when accepting my duties as a mod, I agreed to keeping an eye on things not getting messy across the boards, what with the rise of duplicate threads and all. You're a smart guy; you know that while perhaps you mean well, others don't and they will destroy your thread as easily as some seem keen on destroying this one. I don't understand your problem with having SF related debates in a thread that is intended for such purpose. Now at least we can confine things to one thread instead of smearing it out over multiple threads.

And now, for the last time, drop the venom, please. Debating is one thing but this constant bickering, name calling and mocking doesn't serve us in any way.

This is the part where you prove my point, friend. There is no way such 'pure' threads can independently exist. They will be found and the same nagging will explode there.

I think we have to accept that criticism is not welcome on here and there are those who will go to any lengths to stamp out dissent. I will try and avoid this thread and leave it to the new messiah squad.

Seriously? Seriously? Have you not read the previous two posts in this thread? We're about to calm things down and now this post again? I think everybody will agree with me that you deliberately stir things up again.

On the contrary, I was saying au revoir. I do actually appreciate your time and effort as a mod and recognise this is now utterly tedious for everyone.

This is all very amusing, I wasn't that impresssed with Skyfall, it had nothing to do with the plausibilty of the plot, I don't care if it's unrealistic or gritty and just because I wasn't blown away by the film doesn't mean that I think there should be another Moonraker.

Skyfall just didn't grip me, I didn't get a sense of excitment, that doesn't mean I think that DAD was a masterpiece, just because someone didn't like the film doesn't mean that they want to see a rehash of something else, it just means they didn't like it.

This thread has become a little crazy.

In all honesty a lot of the arguments against Skyfall are quite viable IMO - if you look at them as a genuine critque. Most of what is discussed on here is opinion, usually guided by our individual wants, needs, aspirations for the character and the films. All of which are no doubt viable - after all, I am one of the only people on here who genuinely enjoys AVTAK and I believe I have the right to do so. However, If I had to write an actual critique of the film, addressing theory etc it would be quite obvious that the film isn't the best and I could pin-point copious plot devices and incidents that make little to no sense, I could determine that the pacing is a little wayward but I'd struggle to explain the 'je ne sais quoi' that explains the feeling I get when watching it.

For this reason I think that everybody needs to calm down and take the negative comments about Skyfall as seriously as the positive opinion. It doesn't mean you have to stop enjoying the film but if someone takes the time to outline exactly why they disliked the experience and backs it up with solid reasoning then it should be given as much credence as a positive review. We need some light and shade.

Also, throwing around the word 'troll' isn't helping anybody. We need to be careful when deciding who is and isn't 'trolling' because it only serves to inflame the situation.

Truth be told I find reading a @Getafix opinion/critique, that I might not necessarily agree with, much more interesting and insightful than some of the predictable 'Best film ever' comments that don't even try to define or explain the reasoning behind the thought.

Let's get some perspective guys, before this becomes ultimately very boring.

I think, the problem, if we wanna call it that is, that some here IMO treat this film like an academic thesis. They go into it, taking a film, that's meant to be entertainment very serious and search for explanations, where none are really necessary. It doesn't NEED to explain every bit. Blockbuster films like this never do and they all have their plotholes. So, I believe, that starting to pick it apart is, what bothers people. They seem to forget, that this is supposed to be leisure fun, not your working place. And its the nature of the negative, that it rarely raises fun and pleasure and is hence less popular, never mind how much of a right a poster has to state his negative opinion. Many have enough negative experiences in their daily life and this makes them go after those, who confront them with it here, too.
Its not about right and wrong, its about dynamics and this is how it works usually. So - as much as everyody has the right to voice an opinion, you should not be too puzzled, that you have to deal with "Don't try to spoil my fun".

So - not saying, don't critisize, but saying don't complain.
