The video still works for me:

    That copy retains the ending.

Brilliant! Thanks for that. When I clicked on the other link I got a message saying that it had been removed for violating copyright.

That you do. I quite enjoy it - those 50 minutes fly by, and the finale is thrilling and intense.

I've always meant to watch it and now seems as good a time as any. I'd like to track down a DVD or BluRay copy of it too, mind.

I'd enjoy getting a blu-ray copy of it - would look good amongst the others in my collection, and would help not having to hop over to YouTube every time I want to watch it.

    Yes, it would be nice.

As an accompaniment I recommend the following documentary which delves deeply into Fleming & his inspiration/motivations for writing CR. The 1954 drama features in it too.

Yes, I have that one on video tape from November 2006. I agree that it is a brilliant piece of work and well worth a watch.

I watched 'The Real Casino Royale' this evening. I saw it when it first aired but had forgotten just how good it is. A must watch for Bond fans.

Yes, it is excellent. I've watched it a few times myself since but could do with seeing it again.

It's pretty cool, a must have to complete all Bond DVD/Blu-ray libraries.

    It certainly is.

I don't think I've ever seen the complete version, and it must be 30 years since I saw it last. So it's on my iPod and I'll give it a spin this week.

Remember, if you never see LeChiffre use a razor blade to threaten Valerie (his blades are mentioned earlier in the script and in the original Fleming), you're missing the ending; "What are you going to do, Mr. Bond? What are you going to do?"

Thanks @Birdleson - that confirms that I've never seen the last bit. I'm sure I have the full version this time as I quickly scanned towards the last 5 minutes and there is a quality drop in the video.

I wish I still had my old VHS tape of this as a back up. Sighs.

I use a free browser extention to download stuff from you tube. There is also another free programme called 'youtube downloader' which also allows you to download & keep videos.

I currently use Ummy Video Downloader, It's downloads youtube videos and is pretty close to high quality as well. I've used it to grab clips for my Bond rescores. It's also free.

I had recently learned that the 1954 Casino Royale was originally broadcasted in colour and only black-and-white kinescope copies had survived (which were used for the home video versions). I hope that some day these colour versions will resurface one day. I also believe this means that the 2006 Casino Royale is the only intentional black-and-white footage of Bond.

Broadcast in colour but never saved that way? Did kinescope only allow for black and white?

I believe that because Casino Royale was a live performance, it was aired live in colour but taped in black and white for archival purposes (probably because it was cheaper).

I doubt that they even had the technology to store color "film" on magnetic tape at that time, even if they were able to broadcast live in color. Of course everything could be stored on film stock, but I doubt it made sense for them to actually make a (physical) movie out of a TV show just in order of preserving it in color.

Many shows shot in color were broadcast in black and white. The color seasons of ADVENTURES OF SUPERMAN didn't get a color broadcast until 1965.

Apparently the Christmas episode of DRAGNET from 1954, "The Big Little Jesus" was originally shot and broadcast in color, but only black and white copies are available.

I'd love to have seen CR in color, just to see what Barry Nelson's dinner jacket looked like. Somehow, though I think black and white suits the atmosphere of that film.

Glad to see some love for this Bond here. I tend to rank it fairly high.

I enjoyed it and years ago when I did my ultimate bond time line I gave Barry Nelson two more episodes I don’t remember which short stories I pulled the titles from but I had him understand the character a bit better and even give the trade mark line

This is very interesting. Is there a link about that color broadcasting? Maybe in CBS?

The only decent quality photos from CR54 are only in black and white.

@Birdleson, did you say you managed to buy a blu-ray version of CR'54 on eBay, then set about making your own case for it or something? I saw a single blu-ray version (no pictures provided sadly) on eBay last night for $19.99, but I didn't want to pull the trigger knowing virtually nothing about it.
