Where were all you guys, when he needed you? B-) Its like everbody and his dog comes to his defense as if it could save his butt after all these years.
Its fine though, I would do the same for my favourite, but boy...

Dalton. But I like DC. I remember coming back from seeing TLD in Plymouth and grinning on the drive home thinking 'we've got Bond back - at last'. For me he is the closest to Fleming's Bond. Just a shame he didn't make any more films…

Bizarre - I also saw it in Plymouth. At the Drake, I seem to remember.

Oh please, its common knowledge, that they made him walk, because he wasn't popular.

I was 5 or 6 when TLD came out, and even though I liked James Bond (saw TLD at the cinema, didn't understand any of the story but I liked the action), I was more intrested in Ninja turtles and pretending to be an F1 driver. So I couldn't do much.

No, they were nagging Cuby (who liked him), to fire him, and Dalton didn't think the series would last anyway so he walked.

I'm not denying that you're right although I don't know the ins and outs of it.

But when you say 'they', do you mean EON or the studio?

Having seen Renny Harlin's comments on Dalton I can't help but wonder whether other directors (possibly even Martin Campbell??) said similar things and this forced them to reluctantly get rid of him. Tim did after all stay attached to Bond for several years before he parted ways. I don't know for certain of course but I can't help ponder.

If 'they' are the money men, then I agree. I don't think for one second that Cubby want to get rid of Dalton.

And as for the other thing, well I was 2 and 4, so I wouldn't have been much help. ;)

I would think, there are many money men attached to making a film on many different levels. So many want to have a piece of the cake and it all depends - mainly - on th lead actor. If he doesn't work out on all these levels - they are f*****.

Babs might love DC to bits, but hadn't he worked out, she would have fired him or will - in the future. Its their job to do that in order to save the franchise.

You're son had good taste :), the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles were like the coolest thing ever when I was a little kid. "WHAT?!?!?! They are ninjas, turtles, and they live in the sewer eating pizza with a talking rat?!?!?! I want to be one!" Actually, I am now of to change my avatar to a ninja turtle.

Yeah, Cuby wanted Dalton to play Bond for a while and liked him so I doubt he got him fired.

Another pretty good example of Craig having a bit more levity compared to Dalton was the "Stephanie Broadchest" remark in the car. It's a classic "Bond-esque" name that risks sounding silly. But Craig handles it well and demonstrates that "playful" manner.

Could Dalton do the same thing? Err...I'm not sure :-?

He even had a turtle costume. Soon afterwards he became Mick Dundee though...

Oh, by the way, did I mention? Craig over Dalton :P

Yes he could. He can do anything.

I had some toys but I never had a costume.

Oh yeah, Dalton over Craig :P

I'm glad Dalton never had to say such a silly line. It sounds like it belonged in the Brosnan era.

Dalton did say one or two "sillier" lines.

    "We have nothing to declare"
    "He met his Waterloo"
    "He got the boot"
"He looks like he came to a dead end"

Too bad, they don't have siggies here. We could cement that there once and for all

I liked those lines, especially the Waterloo line and Pushkin's reaction. They weren't laugh out loud (but they're not cringe inducing either), but they do bring a smile to my face.

Your hostility to the legend that is Dalts is only rivalled by my dislike of the Brozza!

I really don't understand where you get this thing about him not being able to handle the one liners.

I tell you one thing - Dalton's scripts were way ahead of pretty much anything we've had since, give or take a couple of the Bond-Vesper scenes in CR.

Well...he can't really. He's not that kind of actor. He's a thesp really. One liners are too good for him. I think there were times when he could do humour but not "one liners". If I hear a one-liner I want to at least smile. This is my face :| It doesn't fit him. He's not smarmy or cocky enough.

I don't mean to sound hostile. I like Dalton and admire what he did but I just wonder if he was really all THAT great. If he was he'd have a better reception than he has. Yes he's a BIT more popular now but compared to Connery, Moore, Brosnan and Craig he's still behind.

Say, Getafix, why the Brozza avatar then? Just curious of course. I do know you like the man in other productions beside Bond.

Richard Maibaum wrote the screenplays for TLD and LTK - it shows.

Basically LTK was the last Barry movie, the last Maibaum movie, the last proper Cubby movie, the last Glen movie. AND the last Dalts movie.

No wonder they went off the tracks with GE.

I think one of the problems Dalts had/has is that he's a man of the stage NOT a man of the screen. Hell that flash Gordon image looks like it could have been taken from a play.
