Compared to him I almost love Lexenberg.
As for Harley, there's where my pain lies. And it hurts a lot.
First know that Harley is my favourite female character in the DC universe.
I will have to see SS a second time at home before I can judge it properly. At the cinema I was like hit on the head constantly by the technically catastrophic editing.
Harley could have been so great. So great. We got glimpses of it. It's a bit like with BvS. WW was the best part, so is Harley in SS.
Actually I would look forward to a solo Harley Quinn film much, much more than to a Wonder Woman solo film.
They should do it as a niche film with maybe a 75 million USD budget, at most. For the fans.
At the moment I would rank the films like this: I know I am strange so don't judge me too harshly.
My life blood:
1. Batman Begins
2. Batman 1989
3. Constantine
4. Watchmen
5. Batman Forever
like sex in the morning:
6. The Dark Knight Rises
7. Batman Returns
8. Green Lantern
9. Superman, the first one.
10. The Losers
11. Superman Returns
12. Jonah Hex
a slight flu, not too bad:
13. The Dark Knight
14. Batman & Robin
15. Superman II (The Donner Cut)
lose a limb, or two:
16. Suicide Squad
17. Man Of Steel
18. Supergirl
19. Superman III
cancer, terminal:
20. Batman v Superman
21. Catwoman
22. Superman IV
That means some 40 films to watch...at least I can watch two at a time, as most don't exceed a length of 70, 80 minutes.
Staring NOW with Batman: Mask Of The Phantasm, that's already a definite high light.
One of the best Batman movies ever made. Just after Batman Returns and maybe Batman -89.
To some extent, yes. Like @Brady said, WW was regarded as one of the better things about BvS. Fortunately for her she doesn't carry any negative baggage and the response to the character and her film has been positive. This film doesn't need to slay at the BO. If it can gross more than $500 million it'll be a financial hit which I'm sure it can do. The film, however needs to and I hope will be a critical hit.
They need to do a faithful adaptation and explore in a Mad Love fashion the complex dynamic the pair have, and pay special mind to Harley's tragic situation as Joker's partner who shouldn't be her Casanova.
The standout was Viola Davis' Amanda Waller, though. What a stone cold bitch; perfect.
How'd you feel about the Batman cameos? (he's barely there, really)
OMG I love Viola Davis, in anything really. Yes, she definitely elevates SS.
I even watched How To Get Away With Murder, just for her and it's even worth it.
Agreed on all points. It doesn't need to set the world on fire financially. It's actually more important that the film be well received than it be a box-office smash to ensure that the DC universe is still creatively viable.
MOS took some time to grow on me, but overall I think its a pretty solid film. It added a new degree of depth to Superman that actually made me take an interest in the character. Snyder tried some new things with the character, some of which were fumbled, but some others really resonated with me. This sentiment of mine carries over to Supes in BvS as well.
Batman v Superman was definitely disappointing, though I do still enjoy it quite a bit. In the end though, it seems to come down to a lot of questionable creative decisions where I just have to ask "why"? I think BvS is FAR from the heaping pile of garbage people claim it to be, but I definitely wont shy away from pointing out its many flaws.
Suicide Squad on the other hand is just plain awful. I struggle to find positive things to say about it. Suicide Squad reminds me of these series of anti Smoking ads. It just feels like a cringey, transparent attempt to to be cool and fun.
As for the WW trailer, I haven't watched it yet. I'm hoping to see it for the first time tonight on the big screen, assuming it plays before Doctor Strange.
It's got an edge to it, sure. But most of that comes from the shooting style. Most of the heart that was present in Donner's original film is still there thanks to Cavill's very likeable performance and Costner's world weary father figure. It packs a real punch in the action sequences and despite the overblown finale, it really felt that this is what we would go through if two God-like figures clashed on our planet. I also felt a lot for Shannon's Zod, who added a lot to the character despite his limited screentime. He wasn't a standard supervillain.
I really wish we had gotten a straight sequel to it that reintroduced Batman slowly and in the background, rather than dive bombing straight into a battle between the two.
I think Batman V Superman would have been a significantly better movie if there were a few more explanations and a little less stupidity on the part of some of the characters. In particular Batman. Apparently 18 months of watching a man generally be a hero and atoning for his part in the Metropolis disaster did nothing to explain to Bruce Wayne that Superman was there to help, not to lord over people like some sort of malevolent god. A little explanation on when everybody learned everybody else's secret identities and so forth and how Lex Luthor somehow reprogrammed an alien computer would have been nice to.
Oh, and why he created Doomsday. And why Doomsday needed to be in the movie. And why a movie with a title of "Batman V Superman" only had a Batman V Superman fight that lasted less than their earlier conversation at a dinner party.
I haven't seen Suicide Squad, though I've heard many things about it from sources I trust, not to mention those here who've seen it.
Man of Steel and Batman V Superman could have both been better movies. I hate neither of them, but no one can deny that they are outrageously flawed in most regards.
All my life (since 5 I would guess) I have waited for The Justice League to come alive on screen.
At first when I heard of Zac Snyder being in charge I was walking on air as he gave us the great, great Watchmen.
Batman v Superman has broken my heart. I don't know how long I will suffer.
My heart is bleeding. Wonder Woman will give me a quantum of solace but only next year's Justice League can mend my broken heart. Although I doubt it will, in fact I fear I will just bloody die if JL is as bad as BvS.
What a great first film in the fantastic DC Animated Universe that started in 1992 with Batman The Animated Series.
My 19 year old self was watching PHANTASM in 1994 when it came out on LaserDisc.
I was in Heaven. I gazed at the fantastic art work of the LaserDisc sleeves totally in love with the film.
Bruce Wayne is really struggling in this one. He is in love but feels he will betray his parents if he hangs up his cape. He made a vow.
It's very touching and emotional and it's a great mystery too and it has that early nineties feel to it which from my point of view is a plus, it brings back so many good memories.
I don't even mind the cheesy Siedah Garrett love song in the end titles.
Oh and Mark Hamill rocks. I prefer him much as The Joker, that's his definite role for me.
Highly recommended.
That's not quite true, to be fair. Maybe "minutes" in terms of movie minutes but the only one who is exposed to Earth's atmosphere directly is Zod. The rest, including Faora, are protected by their suits. Zod also spends time before the final battle adjusting to the Earth's balance after the fight in Smallville. One thing to remember also is that Zod and his group are military / soldiers. They've likely been to other worlds before (in fact the film states they spend a great deal of time searching the universe) and as such it isn't a big deal to them. Superman never had this experience.
I think Man Of Steel gets a raw deal, really. It actually did 85-90% of things right, in my opinion.
@BondJasonBond006, this scene gets me in tears every time:
Oh bloody hell WOW!!
I want this!!
That is amazing artwork and looks totally real!
Damn straight. No shame in having good taste.
‘Game of Thrones’ Star Ciaran Hinds Cast as ‘Justice League’ Villain Steppenwolf

Superman Returns is infinitely better and so is Superman, the original movie.
Having said this, I have never been a die-hard fan of Supes, I love him sure, he belongs to my beloved JL/DC Universe, but I don't hurt because of the shabby treatment of his character in the last two films.
People seem to accept any Batman as long as he punches stuff in a way that looks cool (look at Batfleck), but it's much harder to nail a character like Superman who lives each day with progress and miracles ingrained in his cells, who has the power of twelve gods and decides to help people with that power, who doesn't judge anyone and who is an alien from a distant extinct planet yet is as American as they come.
It's about time we finally saw that symbol of hope and goodness rise on the screen, because Cavill deserves to continue the great work he did in MoS of becoming the rightful successor to Christopher.
Cavill is a great Clark Kent, but that's about it. Forgive me, but I consider Tom Welling Reeves rightful successor, even if it's TV.
I always hoped for a big screen version of Smallville, Welling was incredibly good during the last few seasons. And in the end I was so sad we didn't get to see him as Supes in a movie.
Welling is hit or miss for me, as his deliveries can often be choppy. I think both he and Henry have that look that every Superman needs, though, and they both convey a sense of innocence and kindness that is also essential. I'd rather have Henry, however, as he nails it more in every department for me, and would continue to do so if he was given actual material to work with, instead of the 40 lines he gets in BvS.
Apparently it's a disaster according to Bret Easton Ellis. It's just awful news if true.

A great quote later on in the article from the last link from producer Chris Moore:
The biggest problem is the entertainment industry … [just] realized we’re in the consumer products business,” says producer Chris Moore. “None of those big companies have been functioning like they’re in the consumer products business. The reason Disney is eating everybody’s lunch right now is it’s been in the consumer products business for 40 fucking years. They fully understand that, ‘Hey, this is the value of a movie,’ ‘This is the value of a Captain America,’ ‘Hey, JJ [Abrams], when you’re designing that outfit for the person in the new Star Wars, can you look at these three dolls and tell us which one you like best?’ They know what the fuck they’re doing
I don't really know what to think anymore. Ellis seems straight up, but I've also seen insiders in the know assuring people that it's all bullshit.
The comments about the execs not caring because they'll make money regardless sound very characteristic of WB though, and it also shows that they've done little to learn their lessons after the failures they've had to capture audiences.
What do we think the supposed script issues are? One thing I believe will be a big issue is how many villains Ben seems to be stuffing into the film to introduce audiences to the Snyderverse version of Batman's rogues gallery. With that many villains it could be overload and really bog down the script with too much "stuff", not to mention how damn difficult it would be to cast so many of Batman's rogues gallery all at once for one production, not to mention all the wages those stars would desire for their respective roles. It just seems like one massive production nightmare to me.
I'm also not the least bit enthused about having Deathstroke as the main villain. I don't think he's the kind of guy who can lead a film as a villain, as his motives are so straight forward and he's really just a man of contract hits.
Oy vey...
