The script writers and Affleck must be under an enormous amount of pressure. They more or less will have to save the Batman franchise and the DCU as well. Especially if JL goes downhill and I'm pretty sure it will at this point.
Poor Affleck, he just doesn't seem to have any luck with comic heroes.
I think Zac Snyder and Goyer/Terrio have inflicted too much damage already to this franchise.
MoS is generally viewed as a rather bad movie.
BvS is seen as another Batman & Robin (if for different reasons)
SS is a bloody mess which only resonated with the very young that care more about using whatsapp and FB when sitting in the cinema seat than actually watching the film.
WW will not make much of an impact (imho).
Justice League will have to be awesome like Civil War or The Batman will fail as well. There is only so much a reputation can take hits.
All imho, naturally.
Wholeheartedly disagree on your assessment, there. That type of palette has been around long before Riddick has and that's basically the only thing the films have in common anyway. The only thing is has in common with Batman Begins is that they're both DC origin stories - what did you expect, really? And again, there's very little in common with any Avengers action sequences other than things go boom. They're shot better in Man of Steel, and they're scored better. Like it or hate it, but the final confrontation in Snyder's film is better than any sequence in both Avengers flicks.
I don't think Deathstroke will be the main villain despite what has been reported. He will probably be the primary antagonist, alright. But he definitely should be executing a contract, possibly on Batman himself. It would be a good time to introduce a new Penguin or even Black Mask and have them pull the strings.
That being said, regarding the report...
I really cannot see Affleck directing a script that he thinks is in anyway subpar. Acting in one is one thing, but he has always struck me as a perfectionist when behind the camera. It's why, even though he's older than the character in the book, he was the perfect person to bring Live By Night to life.
At this point, any negativity surrounding the DCEU films doesn't surprise me. The mentality of the studio execs is the least surprising of all. After the whole debacle and reasoning to push for the GL movie and with everything surrounding SS and its BO success their viewpoint in sodding everything and hoping for the money to roll in is to be expected. I'm convinced that the DCEU aren't that bothered anymore about genuine critical hits and SS only serves to advocate that.
As for the problems, they could be any number of things, making it hard to really pinpoint specifically what they could be or where to begin. In the end I hope to be pleasantly surprised but my scepticism remains high. We'll see how WW and TJL do but for now I remain hopeful more than excited or hyped.
Back in the day I was very happy to get and see a second animated movie, even if this one was made for the small screen.
This might not be nearly as good as MASK OF THE PHANTASM but I like it quite a bit.
The last half hour is awesome with the whole Oil Rig sequence and the thing going down in flames spectacularly. Also I like how Batsy, Robin, Barbara and Mr. Freeze work together in the end to save Nora Fries.
BATMAN BEYOND RETURN OF THE JOKER 2000
Now this is one of my absolute favourites, I love this even more than MASK OF THE PHANTASM
I always was very fond of Batman Beyond, the TV Show and this movie is maybe the best movie directly linked to one of the TV Shows.
This is some seriously gritty stuff, and quite violent too, which at that time was very unusual for DC Animated Universe.
Terry McGinnis who takes over Bruce's role as the Dark Knight is a favourite of mine. I identified with him back then and I wanted BEYOND to go on forever.
BATMAN MYSTERY OF THE BATWOMAN 2003
This I find a rather forgettable affair. I do like the animation which has a very polished feel and it's far from being bad but there's nothing much special to it either.
Linked to the upgraded Batman Animated Series with different style of animation this is my least favourite of the first four animated features.
next on: THE BATMAN vs DRACULA
My ranking so far:
1 BATMAN BEYOND RETURN OF THE JOKER - bloody great
2 BATMAN MASK OF THE PHANTASM - bloody great
3 BATMAN & MR FREEZE SUBZERO - good
4 BATMAN MYSTERY OF THE BATWOMAN - okish
Did you watch the uncut version of Return of the Joker or the edited one?
I both own the 71 and 77 minutes version. The edited version was the one I got back then on DVD.
Luckily for the German market the unrated version was released on Blu-ray some years ago.
My man!
I'm with you, boys. I love Man of Steel. It's a smarter, sharper film than it's given credit for.
Anchored by a strong Cavill performance, too. He gets a lot of flack but I think he strikes a good balance between Reeve's golden era sensibilities and a 21st Century Man.
@CraigMooreOHMSS, absolutely. Henry exudes the feeling a Superman should. He looks at the bad in the world and you see in his eyes that he's questioning why people can't simply get along. There's a great humanity and innocence in his performance too, a man who can't bring it upon himself to not do the right thing, even if it gets him exposed.
Two scenes in the movie really get me every time, the first being this one where Diane Lane's Ma Kent shows why she's the best mother in fiction:
And this one, where Clark turns his back on a new Krypton to choose the people of earth as his kind:
Zod is a great villain in my eyes, a man who was literally designed from birth as a soldier, who can't work against his programming to conquer and claim new lands for Krypton. He's not a fully good or fully bad man, as he was trying to stop his home planet from dying, when nobody would listen. Unfortunately his programming was his undoing, forcing Superman to act to stop him at all costs when he wouldn't-couldn't-stop his mission.
I love that Superman is the first native birth in thousands of years on his planet, too. One of the film's main themes is all about destiny, and about choosing your own life purpose. Superman is free of his programming and can be the man he needs to be for the people of earth, by Jor's design.
One of the reasons I dislike BvS is because it undoes so much of the great work Man of Steel does. Superman goes from a symbol of hope to a man who doubts himself constantly and allows the world to paint him as evil, going so far as to give in to Luthor and label himself as a bad guy. It's not the Superman I know, at all.
It's also a shame the films absolutely demolished who Pa Kent should be. Pa would never tell Clark he couldn't use his powers to help, or tell him he should let kids in a bus die so he could hide his abilities from the government. Pa would be worried for Clark as any parent would, but he would urge his boy to use his powers for good whenever innocents needed his help. Pa would tell Clark it was his duty to help people with his gifts, not keep them reigned in and hidden away where they're of no use to anyone.
Like many of the films' failures, Snyder and his team tried to overlay a real world sensibility on Superman and his world, and that doesn't work. You can't make Superman and Pa as uber-dark and tormented as Batman, as it just doesn't work, and it's not who those characters are.
It's not just that it's not the Superman any of us knows, it's not the Superman we deserve. There were decisions in Man of Steel that I disagreed with (seriously, Clark, destroying the man's semi was going a little too far and how the hell did no one notice?), but by the end of the movie, it showed the Superman we deserved. Batman V Superman shows us a clothed Dr. Manhattan. That's not what we deserved. That's not what we asked for. That's not what we should have gotten.
Since you brought up Pa Kent, I've gotta ask: Who is everybody's favorite Pa Kent? Mine has to be John Schneider in Smallville, but that could be because I'm a Dukes of Hazzard fan.
Such a powerful and well thought out scene. Interesting with those Kryptonese subtitles, by the way.
Ok, here it comes. Sue me, but THE BATMAN is my favourite Batman animated show. I watched the first season in one take I couldn't believe how awesome it is. I didn't sleep much in that night but boy was I walking on air the next day. Ten years later I still love it. Totally.
Batsy vs Alucard is awesome, I wanted to rank it above PHANTASM but hey, it's sacrilege I guess.
I even got the toys to the movie. ...and you are dust. BANG.
SUPERMAN BRAINIAC ATTACKS 2006
I admit I never cared much for Superman The Animated Series although I do own it and watched it more than once. It's still DCAU and it's all good. Brainiac Attacks feels little more than a lengthy episode of the TV Show. It's ok but a bit of a bore.
SUPERMAN DOOMSDAY 2007
This Superman movie I like much better. The way Lex handles Supes here is mean and cruel and I get emotionally involved when watching this. I must say this is really better than the Supesless crap we got in BvS.
next on: JUSTICE LEAGUE NEW FRONTIER
My ranking so far:
1 BATMAN BEYOND RETURN OF THE JOKER - bloody great
2 BATMAN MASK OF THE PHANTASM - bloody great
3 THE BATMAN VS DRACULA - bloody (literally) great
4 BATMAN & MR FREEZE SUBZERO - good
5 SUPERMAN DOOMSDAY - good
6 BATMAN MYSTERY OF THE BATWOMAN - okayish
7 SUPERMAN BRAINIAC ATTACKS - okayish
Oh I am jealous, I wish I could un-watch it and start from scratch. It's such an awesome first experience.
I love the animation style, the sound effects and the music and the theme song! The voice actors, the characters, JOKER!
You know I'm also a complete addict to the Teen Titans for similar reasons.
And just now I realise I have skipped Teen Titans Trouble In Toyko in my DC-athon. OUCH... will watch it at once... :)
Difficult. I have to be careful not to list most of them :P
In no particular order comes to mind:
-A matter of family (Dick's backstory)
-Gotham's Ultimate Criminal Mastermind (Batsy vs DAVE the computer)
-Night and the City (Joker, Riddler and I think Penguin trying to find out Batsy's true identity, first prize, all of Gotham)
-Ring Toss (Green Lantern near defeat, his ring going accidentally to the Penguin instead of Batman)
-The Big Chill (Batsy vs Freeze, ice-kicking fun)
oh and so many more.
Also I love the first episode The Bat in the Belfry and of course the finale Lost Heroes. The finale is probably my favourite by far but it's a bit unfair I guess, double length episode and of course it's Justice League with Martian Manhunter, Professor Strange, Green Lantern, Superman, Hawkman etc.
Pheww...I could open a thread only for this show come to think of it. I could talk about it for eons.
Edit: Just watched: TEEN TITANS TROUBLE IN TOKYO 2006
Yeah I love the TV Show, nope this movie is not that great. After Batsy vs Dracy I hoped for Trouble In Tokyo to be as good, but I was quite disappointed back in 2006 and it still hasn't gotten any better. The Teen Titans are out of their comfort zone as the Titans Tower gets smashed at the beginning and they have to go to Tokyo. It's all a bit silly Japanese Anime non-sense.
8 TEEN TITANS TROUBLE IN TOKYO - oh Dear.

Bloody expensive, but I'm gladly on water and bread for a couple of weeks to have those!
I don't own the Superman Scrooby Doo, though I have the Batman Scrooby Doo for nostalgia. ;))
Great show. Arrow kills Rhas al Gul and makes Merlyn his bitch.
Impressive!
I don't like his choice for gf though. I am not buying the Felicity love.
She has become uber annoying. She is a way better fit with nerdy Atom.
Arrow is pure alpha. He could get any girl on the show and pretty much has.
I still say he fits best with with Laura Lance aka Black Canary.
I've got season 4 blu-ray ready to go next.
Hoping main man Arrow dumps the blonde, and finds a less needy, more worthy femme
Come on Oliver, you can do it - even Rhas's daughter, Katrina Law, might be a good fit.
But I am rooting for Laurel. She looks great, smart and has some fight in her, plus she does have a thing for him, which goes way back!
These DC shows are as much soap dramas as hero adventures. I'm good. It's OK.
Arrow season 2 is my favouraite season, had a great run upto the finale I binge watched the first two seasons got hooked. I won't say anything about season 4, currently watching season 5 and started very well.
Once I've binged S4, I'm going to try and get caught up with S5. Plus I've got Flash S2, Gotham S2, and Supergirl and Legends S1 to binge.
But Arrow is best. Gotham S1 was really good too
These shows look real good on Blu
Arrow has a particularly vivid colour palate.
Lots of green, not surprisingly.
