Poor Moneypenny. Sent out [***] on top of a desk like a [***]. Not that I have anything against [***], mind you. But that's NOT Moneypenny under any circumstances. I can only pray that Lois never got to see her famous character reduced to this before she sadly passed in 2007.

Sorry Bain my friend, but Bliss' Moneypenny is at least respectable and tries to show some class. I'll take that over what we got in the Brosnan era. To the point that I'd be totally fine if they didn't bring back the character anytime soon.

If BB truly has the feminist agenda some accuse her of, I can't imagine she would approve of this.

And fails. The problem was that the chemistry between the two just wasn't convincing. That's the key difference between Bliss and Maxwell/Bond.

Although I will say that while I don't mind the VR scene the very last scene of DAD is pretty bad. Brosnans alrite but Halle?? Urgh. It's sickening.

As equally bad as the last scene with Jinx (well every scene with Jinx) is, Moneypenny's "kiss" ranks just as badly.

Bain, my point is not that Bliss had better chemistry with Dalton than Bond did with Brosnan, or that she's a better actress. Both are pale imitations of Lois Maxwell. My point is I prefer Bliss' portrayal because the Moneypenny character is treated with the same respect and dignity that Lois established. The things that come out of Bond's mouth during most of the Brosnan era are more fitting for a porn movie. Not that I have anything against normal porn. Compared to Bliss, Samantha is Moneypenny is name only and never in deed. Not my definition of the real Moneypenny character. One of the things I absolutely hate the most of the Brosnan era is what was done to MP.

I also find it rather strange that a few words I wrote were edited, while people openly use words such as "shit" (now watch, that will get edited) and drop the F bomb and nothing is done. Someone dropped the ball I'd say. A little hypocritical in my view.

Flag their posts and you can also help stamp the swearing out. It's isn't tolerated so no one should be allowed to get away with it.

Nope, I'd rather watch SB as Moneypenny hands down ;) I understand what you mean but CB just makes me cringe. They're trying to recreate the Louis Maxwell flirtation and it JUST DOESN'T WORK.

Neither work for me is my point here. Amusing as it would be for another female character to say "James, you always were a cunning linguist" (can I say that here?), that's just not Moneypenny. As I have children, the mute button is often hit when she opens her mouth. Where's the Orbit girl when you need her? Clean up that fresh mouth!

Bond>>>Bliss anyday. And this is coming froma massive Dalton fan. Bond had good chemistry with Brosnan, it was entertaining watching them together (apart from DAD's last scene with Moneypenny).

Bliss is probably one of, if not the, only thing about the Dalton films that's bad.

It isn't unless it comes from M or Moneypenny. Would have liked it a lot better from the Danish girl, and far more appropriate too.

So lines like "something big's come up" are ok for kid's to hear but "cunning linguist" isn't? Both are pretty suggestive but both could also be explained away to an innocent child. I think SB does those lines well. It works for her version of MP - someone who playfully teases Bond back.

But it's Connery who said it, those quips are to be expected. And Lois used to tease Bond back better than that. With class and style.

Meh...I thought the "cunning linguist" line was funny. If you want to talk about innuendo that does make me crindge look no further than Halle's "I think I got the THRUST of it" #-o #-o #-o

I think the invisible car was a great gadget! To me if feels like a modern version of a Moore gadget, which is amazing. I mean it's Bond we are talking about, hardly the most realistic movie series ever. An invisible car is IMO not that much of a stretch after seeing vehicles like Little Nellie, car planes and car submarines. IMO, the Star Wars suit and the ridiculous goggles Graves had were too OTT, though.

Haha, yes you do. But I try to act serious and not derail threads, as that would seal my doom in this community. :)) So unfortunately there will be no J.W threads or too many jokes. :((
  • I will always welcome a JW thread! It's antithetical and contrary to my usual views, but Clifton James is a comedic genius and JW makes me laugh as much today as he did since I was 11. I love JW!

I'd be more worried about you failure as a parent than EONs smut policy if you feel the need to censor it as what sort of upbringing did your children have if they willl understand the cunilingus reference?

No not at all a stretch over something that apart from the guns and missiles was fully functional and is still flying today along with good old Ken Wallis.

Now that you mention it I'm starting to think that Little Nellie could perhaps operate in real life. Perhaps not every gadget, but a few of them. The car submarine worked for real also, but a sports car turning into a sub in a matter of seconds is still implausible. But it's more realistic than a "vanishing" car. However, this doesn't matter to me. Bond and plausibility don't go hand in hand IMO. Of course it's good to maintain a good balance so that Bond doesn't turn into Star Trek or Star Wars. For instance, aliens attacking in earth in Bond 24 would probably be too OTT. But a few unrealistic gadgets don't hurt anyone IMO.

I think that the invisible car was just too much, although I hate the virtual training session and Moneypenny's use of same. Just awful.

The technology more than likely existed in 2002, but we still haven't seen it in the mainstream yet (and probably never will). Remember this rule: whatever technology we see today existed in the hands of the military 15 years ago. The invisible tank we see now would pale in comparison to what they really have 'hidden away from sight'. So in conclusion, the 'Vanish' is not far-fetched, but rather ahead of it's time. Very cool.
The Vanish is rather far-fetched but not crazy so. It fits well enough with a Bond film, in that it pushes the boundaries between science and fantasy - something Bond films have been doing for years and even post DAD. In fact a recent tech article, says that Bond's new signature gun is not plausible, at least not the palm-reader part, and that the subcutaneous device that is used to track Bond in CR, is completely off, in that the tech as presented couldn't possibly be tracked that far. But we roll with it, because it makes sense within the context of the film, and with the explanations that that writers have cooked up. We suspend disbelief, which is half the fun of watching Bond. I thought the explanation that Q gave regarding the Vanquish made enough half-arsed sense. Plus the car was not completely invisible, at least not at the Ice Palace. We could still make out it's general outline.

as Bond films have a tendency to steal ideas from movies that came before them, I am maybe surprised this cloaking device idea wasn't featured the next release after Predator. Surely it would of been feasible enough as recent as after 1987, after all the car wasn't invisible, it just gave the impression that it was, I am trying to say it seemed a long time to show this idea when I am surprised they didn't attempt this in a more recent film than Die Another Day. Would the invisible car idea of worked in License to Kill, would of looked completely out of place in Mexico or the Florida Keys though, even if possible, but Daylights would of been ideal for the locations, same theatrical year release of Predator, and if not that, then why not Goldeneye, I guess the times of release just made it not possible or audiences would not have accepted it, but not sure they did in Die Another Day also
  • DAD was a turkey that should have been buried!!!

It just proved that you cannot rely on CGI!!

Compare the Plane sequence with that of the plane sequence in TLD. TLD looked and felt genuine and real, DAD just looked like a cartoon.

The invisible car should NEVER have seen the light of day.

I went to the 1st Friday noon screening at the Empire Leicester Square. It's mainly Bond fans that attend the opening Friday screening so you usually get a good reaction to the Bond Quips/Nods etc on screen

I almost walked out but kept convincing myself it couldn't get any worse. Others in the audience didn't have my patience and did walk out. That is the only time I have been to a Bond film and so many people walked out!!!
