"It's fun. I can't wait for The Hobbit, so it will be fun to see our crazy Man of Steel trailer and then enjoy the Hobbit because that's going to be great," Man of Steel director Zack Snyder confirmed to MTV News. "It just feels like a fun Christmas thing to do, drag the whole family out for that action."
Teaser trailers for Man of Steel were released earlier this summer, with footage of Superman breaking the sound barrier as he soars through the sky and monologues by Kal-El/Clark Kent's fathers on Krypton and Earth.
Snyder also shared some insight into Cavill and Michael Shannon, who plays the villain in the movie. "As serious as I was taking it -- and I don't mean that from a depressing kind of way, but from a 'this is important and fun and needs to be given the respect that it deserves [kind of way]' -- from that perspective it was exciting to watch them drink the Kool-Aid of that concept and go all the way," he said.

Definetly agree. It seems like it's jumping on the "lets make everything dark, gritty and emotional" bandwagon.
To be fair I'm not exactly an expert on this though, I'm not really a fan of the series anyway, I saw the 2nd film and it was fun but I haven't seen any of the others.

I can't say i'm to hyped, but it sure is going to be better then the last Superman movie!
If in 3d and with the right marketing I don't see why it won't make at least close to $billion. After how SF has performed thus far, anything is possible.
@Thelivingroyale, MoS isn't going to be "gritty" it's taking the superman mythology and treating it seriously. There have been 5 superman motion pictures and although the first 2 Reeve movies are good, the overall tone of his 4 movies are severely dated. SR basically tried to duplicate the same tone in a contemporary setting and it just didn't work. There are more than enough sources from the comics that capture what could be appropriate for a contemporary cinematic release and that's what WB are finally doing. If there's any fictional character that is deserving of being treated seriously and respected on the merits of the source material as opposed to trying to rely on homages and the nostalgia of Christopher Reeve, it's Superman. There's so much greatness that can be done with the character cinematically and the first step to achieving that is, to break away from the Christopher Reeve structure and to take a more serious approach in handling the material.

What the whole gritty reboot trend? Fair enough some good has come out of it but for every Planet Of The Apes and New Police Story there's a Robin Hood and a Tron Legacy.
Producers saw Batman and CR and got dollar signs in their eyes and now we're getting reboots of everything, most of the time not needed and with extra "grittiness".

Another week, another Justice League movie rumor. The folks over at Latino Review - who recently broke the report that Darkseid will be the villain in the DC Comics superhero team-up, which is targeting a 2015 release - have apparently revealed which comic book storyline will inspire the screenplay written by Will Beall (Gangster Squad). According to the site, the script is inspired by Justice League Of America #183-185, which was published back in 1980. The storyline, which was written by Gerry Conway and drawn by George Perez, features the JLA teaming up with the Justice Society Of America and involves Darkseid "planning the destruction of Earth by blasting it with a ray that'll move Apokolips into the Earth's place". No word on just how much the movie screenplay will take from the storyline (for example, Christopher Nolan and David S. Goyer took elements from various Batman comic books for The Dark Knight trilogy, though they never fully adapted a single story).
Despite Latino Review usually being reliable (especially with their Marvel movie scoops), it's best to take this news with a grain of salt, and add it to the pile of other Justice League movie rumors that have yet to be confirmed. It was recently reported that Joseph Gordon-Levitt will be reprising his role as John Blake and don the Batman costume for the superhero ensemble, but was since shot down by his reps. Then, Christopher Nolan refused to comment on the possibility of a JGL as Batman cameo in next year's Man Of Steel, which may lead into Justice League as previously suggested by director Zack Snyder. Currently, the search is still ongoing for a director to helm the highly ambitious project.
Another cycle that’s happening right now is the “Superman” reboot "Man of Steel." Are you curious as to how someone else will interpret General Zod?
Not really. I mean, I will see it... But for me, it was my comeback movie. I’d been out of work for eight years and living in India. I was a swami in an ashram, with long hair and a beard, and I was in orange. When the work had stopped I kept thinking next week will be a job, next month will be a job. And then I was traveling and learning all these metaphysical techniques and breathing and tantra and finally I got to an ashram in Pune and it seemed like the most beautiful women from every country in the world were there, and they were all totally empowered [twinkle which allows us to know precisely what he means by “empowered”]. So then I let go, I thought no, I won’t go back to showbiz, this is my life now.
And then I went back to this hotel for a weekend, and I must have sent my agent a postcard from there a year before, and as I come in the concierge hands me a telegram, and it’s addressed to “Clarence Stamp” and it’s dogeared and I don’t know how old it was. And he puts it in my hand and the psychic weight of this telegram! I knew my life was about to change. It was from my long-suffering agent: “Would you consider coming to London to meet with Richard Donner about 'Superman I and II,' you’ll have scenes with Marlon Brando. And on the way would you stop in Paris and meet with Peter Brook about a film of Gurdjieff’s book 'Meetings with Remarkable Men'?" And it was like the universe was saying “You’re back in the market, son.”
So I went two days later and I was totally confident because I just didn’t care. I had let go of all of it. On the Monday I was General Zod and on the Tuesday I was Prince Lubodevsky -- it was in the same studio!
We read that, what little Michael Shannon has seen of “Superman II,” he was intimidated by how you “nailed” the role. Have you any advice for him?
Oh wow. Well, I’m sure he’s going to be fantastic because it’s a fantastic role. All I can say is he needs to be very present. When I walked onto that set I’d been in an ashram for a year, learning to separate orgasm from ejaculation. I was rechanneling the lifeforce and I hadn’t been working, and when I walked on the set, it seemed like everyone was asleep, but I was so, so ready. The only guy who was really up for it was Brando -- he totally understood where I was coming from.
