My vote goes to CR, but OHMSS really gives it a tough match. I think CR is a good and entertaining action movie, but as a Bond film it falls flat IMO. Add to that the fact that I like pretty much every other Bond film more, not only as a Bond film but as a regular movie. From my point of view CR is too emo and lacks too many Bondian touches.
It tries so hard to be a Connery film it turns into a psychedelic snoozefest of a spoof.
The films plot is so unbondian you wonder why there was no real Bond vs. Assassin plot. It's humor is stupid and doesn't evoke laughs. The acting is aside from Christopher Lee is rather on and off. Moore comes off as very grumpy and seems to argue with Goodnight most of the movie. It's not a film I revisit frequently.
Interesting that you dislike this movie. IMO it's pretty much perfect. I think it's a serious Bond film, a little lighthearted yes, but it's not DAF either. IMO the balance between seriousness and humour is perfect in TMWTGG. I also think it's very Bondian and the pacing is very good IMO. I love the environment in it, especially Scaramanga's island. I also think that the characters and actors are at an all time high: IMO Moore is perfect as 007, Scaramanga and is my favorite villain and Nick Nack my favorite henchman. I also happen to think that Goodnight is the best Bond girl ever and I like J.W. The only things lacking are IMO gadgets and possibly a major action scene.
Don't apologize, mate. I might be wrong and this thread won't be closed. Sorry if I sounded like a besserwisser before.
I think the main problem with the film is that it was rushed. It came out right after Live and Let Die. I think it's the QoS of the 70's (In terms of being rushed, not bad.) I don't hate Golden Gun but It was rushed and it had lots of flaws, and I heard alot of Behind the scenes problems were the cause. It's just a weird film that didn't feel 100%
With the likes of MR and DAD around, sorry, don't agree.
I don't think it was a mistake, since I liked him in both films, but I don't think the film would suffer that much if he wasn't in it. Of course I prefer it the way it is. :D
