James Mangold has said there are no pickups or reshoots happening: the film is ‘99% finished’.

Careful what you wish for ! The director says there's no re-shooting, new scenes or alternative endings...once the film comes out some folks might wish such things were done ! Here's hoping for a much better film than IJATKOTCS ( did anyone ever explain why it was not just IJATCS ? ). I read a detailed synopsis of IJATKOTCS recently, and as I read it I recalled the filmed depiction of the story described. Reading it, one might think it would be a terrific film all the way through - though it does not explain why the aliens left as soon as the one missing their head was re-united with it. As filmed, though, it went downhill as it moved to the final parts. Too bad. Here's hoping the new one stays strong throughout !

Well no-one is saying it's going to be a perfect movie, but I'm not really sure what your point is.
I don't care if they had done any pickups or not, it's no indication of a movie's quality either way. But the point is that YouTube trolls lie; don't believe them.

Sure. I'm just saying that re-shoots, use of one ending from among several filmed, insertion of new scenes -- things which appear to be indicators of a poor movie going through attempts to improve it, might really improve it ! I hope that Mangold's statements indicate that the film is coming out well as written and as filmed.

No reshoots on big budget films is so rare. That's great news. If I remember correctly, there were only a few days worth of pickups on Logan as well. Long story short: yet another reason to have great confidence in Mangold at the helm.

Well this is what he said regarding that in reply to this charming Belgian:

Mangold is schooling the know-it-alls, proving, once again, these types know nothing at all.

For once, Twitter is used properly. I love how Mangold keeps wiping the floor with these characters.

They won't believe him though. One interesting thing is that he did confirm an Indy TV show is being developed, and that it won't feature Indy (or Helena)...

I am happy he’s gone. GL was right in rethinking about him taking over the franchise. One of Spielberg’s few casting errors.

    Regarding reshoots...
The bulk of the movie was shot in 2021. When it started production, in June 2021, it was still supposed to be released in July 2022. Disney announced that it would be pushed back by one year at the end of October of 2021, while they had already shot for nearly five months.

Even if the production was troubled, which is a possibility, Mangold and the production team had all the time in the world to see what didn't work and to do reshoots this year. They already had a long window to take care of the issues that they spotted from the rough cut. And James Mangold may not have a perfect track record, but he tends to be solid and reliable. If it had been Doug Liman or Gareth Edwards, two directors notorious for relying on improv, who start to shape their films after principal production is finished and who do a lot of reshoots, when they're allowed to, it may have made sense. But Mangold has usually more of a journeyman approach to filmmaking.

So it's very unlikely that it took them to wait until this very moment to realize that the ending wasn't working and to plan reshoots.

I believe him. But even if he was lying, as some people assume, it would make no sense to do some pickups here, nearly a year after principal production had wrapped. If there was an issue with the stuff they had shot, with a very linear story, it would have been spotted and addressed much earlier.

Some people don't believe in logic, or at least don't understand the concept.

Mutt was never taking over at any stage. That’s just a made up rumor by fans.

The movie literally ends on a gag with Indy snatching the hat away from Mutt, which was the filmmakers telling everyone loud and clear NO ONE was replacing Indy.

Say what you will about KOTCS, but that's a great moment and a very fitting end to the movie.

I liked Mutt fine. I find the hatred toward him bewildering, but I also never assume he would ever take over the franchise. That was about as likely as Connery’s character taking over after THE LAST CRUSADE.

I really wish people didn’t still think this way. It’s the reason I feel like I should get a new last name so people won’t associate me with my father.

I think people hate Shia more than Mutt. As I said before, a rare Spielberg miscast.

Too full of himself. He’s Ezra Miller before Ezra Miller.

I don't know who Ezra Miller is (and don't really care to google him). But I agree, Shia was okay in KOTCS. His Brando imitation was pretty good (though probably as directed by Spielberg), and I never expected him to take over the series from Ford. So, fine with me if he isn't around in the new film anymore, but he didn't bother me in the last one.

He wasn't a co-star up to Connery's standard (in part because they had no actual idea of what to do with the character or what his story was) but I don't think he was actually irritating, which he could have been. I think he was perfectly fine, if not really as attention-grabbing as he should have bee, frankly.
I think Phoebe Waller-Bridge will offer a much more interesting partner for Indy to spar with, to be honest.

So is Tom Cruise, but I don’t hold that against his films. Shia had his personal issues but I don’t think he’s gone on the kind of antics Ezra has like kidnapping.

And credit to Shia for finding more success with indie films post-Hollywood. Spielberg wasn’t wrong for having an eye on him, I just don’t think Shia really enjoyed making blockbusters. So it’s better he does more personal projects like HONEY BOY than TRANSFORMERS.
