Mutt was a douche. Can't believe he was related to Indy.

I really wish people didn’t still think this way. It’s the reason I feel like I should get a new last name so people won’t associate me with my father.

I think people hate Shia more than Mutt. As I said before, a rare Spielberg miscast.

    I don't get what's wrong with Shia.

Too full of himself. He’s Ezra Miller before Ezra Miller.

Yes, that's the actor. When he's on screen, he's playing a character. I don't mind.
Ezra Miller is a great actor who's given wonderful performances in films. His personal life is of no importance to me while watching a film. If I did care, there'd barely be a film I could watch, including Connery's Bonds, Kubrick's films, Spacey's films, ... and even bloody Howard The Duck. ;-)

I have a soft spot for Shia. Loved him in Disturbia, Transformers, The Peanut Butter Falcon, Borg vs McEnroe, ... He added lots of charm to those films.
  • I thought Shia was terrific as Mutt, and did as well as anyone else would have. He's a very good actor, IMO. I think the issue is that, for any number of reasons, a lot of people simply find him unlikable and they hold it against the movie/character.

Just finished Indiana Jones and the Army of the Dead by Steve Perry (2009). A light read. A fun adventure for Indy fans. Quite the character study of the villains.

But half of Hollywood is arrogant or aggressive or "loose" or whatever. I respect it if you find that an obstacle when watching films; I just don't see how wide the range of films to watch can remain. 😉 I don't care how arrogant Shia is in real life, I have always liked him in the films I have seen him in. He can be quite charming onscreen and that's good enough for me.

Yes and no. Perry said he wrote it without giving Indy much due to him figuring that most people know of Indy and his adventures.

No worries. Fully respect that. I just think the character was poorly written. The scene where he starts crying when he and Indy find out what happened to John Hurts " not Abner but should have been" character is case in point.

Well, I wasn't a fan of Mutt either. The character could have been better written, indeed. I wish they'd brought back Shortie instead, in fact.

I can’t say I found Mutt to be bad, let alone ruinous. In fact, this is more on the writers, he at times acts more like Indy than Indy. There’s a moment where Indy is plotting with the Russians on how to find the treasure, and Mutt takes the opportunity to make a surprise run for it because he knows the Russians are going to kill them in the end anyway. Better to defy and get killed that way, than to collaborate and get killed in the end.

Frankly, Mac and Marion were far more annoying. I never buy Mac as a character, his friendship and betrayal with Indy never feels real. And Marion just becomes a grinning comic relief that acts like a soccer mom at times to Mutt.

Mutt seems to just get a lot of arbitrary hate because the filmmakers had the audacity to give Indy a son and they assumed the worst would be done, like having Mutt take over the series, which was NEVER going to happen. Back in 2008, I always assumed Mutt’s fate was to run a successful business as a mechanic, rather than become an adventurer and educator like his father.

Count me in as well. TOD is my favourite Indy film and Shortround is an essential part of that. I was a kid when I first saw the film. I'd already seen Ke-Huy-Quan in Goonies, a film I absolutely adored. We never learned what happened to Shortround (and Willy). Some closure, no matter how small, would be greatly appreciated. ;-)

I’m okay with not knowing what happened to Willie since I assume she left off like every Bond girl. But yeah, Short Round not being mentioned again is like not learning why Robin is no longer Batman’s sidekick.

At the very least, Short Round should have had a cameo at the wedding in KOTCS, rather than just the two brand new characters we only first learn about in that film.

Willie lived a life as the wife of a famous Hollywood producer and director after that. No need to worry.

What happened to Willie ? She's RIGHT HERE ! (in her own words)...as for "right here" being my location, oh, no, someone else is the lucky guy...

As of the 1960s some places in the world - including some in "First World" (pls forgive the inherent unstated claims of superiority) countries - were much the same as they had been for decades...

Yeah that's why worrying about an Indy film set in a different decade is a bit silly really: ancient undiscovered temples, jungles and deserts looked much the same in the 60s as they did in the 30s!

God that shot has such odious colouring. The whole thing is so colour corrected yellow that the sky, which should be light blue in good weather or pale in cloudy conditions, looks like porridge that has been left over for a week. Weak.

This is why I have no issue with SP’s cinematography. These are films, not documentaries. Let the filmmakers have fun with aesthetics.

Spectre's colouring has never upset me either. The supposed 'colour corrected' versions fans put out look less interesting and atmospheric to me.

It's like looking at the early Indy films and questioning where all the light sources in the caves and temples are, and why there's always a source of light apparently directly under everyone's chin. It's because it's not real, and Harrison Ford has a wide-brimmed hat on :)

Porridge that has been left over for a week is never fun aesthetically, so I tend to agree with @Benjamin_Weekly69. And it's also my biggest problem with SP. But I guess we're decided on punching every criticism on the face, because clearly anyone who comments on a shot from this film and its aesthetics is wishing for the film's ruin. Not all critics are trolls. I, for one, really want this film to succeed, in every way, and I find that shot very van Hoytema, and not in a good way. Hey, people react differently to art, don't they? I only like Picasso's blue period, and dislike his other work. Why be offended by my opinion? Films are art, yes, and some of it is disliked by some. That's the way the word spins.

I've always wondered where the light came from both inside the coffin at the crematorium and inside the underground pipeline in DAF. It's sheer magic.

Ha! Yes that is quite funny :D It would certainly be worse to watch if it were more like real life!
