I'd quite like him to tangle with the Mafia or something, that seems in the Indy wheelhouse.
Just kidding, more like late '70's.
I wonder how much, if any, location filming they'll actually do in Manhattan, given the period setting and the fact that this is scheduled to shoot at Pinewood Studios.
Yes good point, they may even do the old Liverpool/Manchester trick.
Did Donovan live in NYC in Last Crusade?
Judging from the skyline in his apartment, I'd say yes.
I think it will really depend on how much of the movie they plan to set in New York.
If it's only going to be a little part of the movie, I could see them maybe filming there on location for a couple of weeks, tops. Using places like Liverpool, Manchester, Glasgow, Pinewood etc to double for the rest.
On the other hand, if a large percentage of the movie takes place there then it would make sense for them to do a much more extensive location shoot.
Much like how only 10% of Batman Begins (which took place in locations all around the world) was shot in America, while more than half of the Dark Knight (which took place mostly in one city) was filmed there.
Bedford's a real place, in fact.
Really? Huh! I guess you learn something new every day. I never bothered to look - I have always assumed it was fictional. Thanks for the correction!
Technically, you're both right.
It is a real town, but it's located in New York State, not Connecticut.
It's in Bedfordshire, silly :)
lol. +1
The locations used for the University are an interesting mish-mash of places that are all 3,000 miles away from each other.
The exterior in Raiders is the University of the Pacific in California. The exterior in Crusade is the Rickmansworth Masonic School in Hertfordshire, which also played the interior in Raiders. Meanwhile, Crystal Skull filmed its interiors and exteriors at a real Connecticut Ivy League university; Yale.
Funny thing is they're supposed to be two completely different schools in Raiders and Crusade (in different States I think), but I doubt many people noticed that! :)
I think in Crystal Skull he's gone back to the one he worked in in Raiders again. Oh yes it must be because they actually reuse the same shot from Raiders for the exterior.
Plus maybe I am showing my bias as a christian but for me the films work better when they are hunting for Judeo-Christian artifacts.
Since it's fantasy, why not? Except that I would be afraid of getting some metaphorical ending, like "heaven is inside all of us", which I would hate. In an Indy film, I want an actual climax.
They have a different kind of charisma. But sure, Cooper is a very enjoyable actor.
I agree that the movies have more of a punch when Indy is searching for a Judeo-Christian MacGuffin. They tend to be richer in theme and emotion. Raiders, for example, is not "about" an archaeologist searching for lost treasure. Raiders is about an atheist becoming a believer; he thinks the "power of God" is all hokum and talks about it dismissively at the beginning, but by the end of the movie, he believes fully, with his eyes closed, in that very power.
Incidentally, I'm an agnostic, so I'm not trying to push religion on anyone. This is all just a long way of saying that the films (at least for me) are much richer when they have those religious aspects.
I'm an atheist--an anti-theist even--and I agree as well. ;-)
That said, my favourite film in the series is TOD, but simply because I love the adventure of it all. When it comes to MacGuffins, there's no substitute for the Arc in Raiders or the Cup in Crusade.
It went to hell.
It proved too sensitive a subject. We deemed it best to shut it down.
I think it was locked as things were TOO heated
Yes, my Religion Thread was closed down in June 2018. Ultimately, it was for the best. I realised it was a mistake to ever have created such a thread here. The same goes for the political threads I created. Still, you live and learn as you get older.
I always wanted to do a thread on Cicada 3301 I can only imagine the sarcastic and wild theories some of the people on here would create. but still...
Well, the puzzle game itself is fun. ;-) As long as it's not QAnon...
"Want to talk about QAnon, Dr Jones?"
"You're insulting me."
