  • No one else could play him.
Personally, I've always appreciated the other actors who played the character as a young man (River Phoenix but also Sean Patrick Flanery). While Ford is and will remain the only Indiana Jones in his prime, I'm not against seeing someone else playing the part in any hypothetical prequel continuing The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles series.

Phoenix was doing a (terrific) impersonation of Ford though rather than his own version. Flannery I didn't think much of but then I didn't get that show at all- it wasn't Indy to me.

I do agree that probably no-one else should play him as there's perhaps not much more to the character than Ford's performance, but I really enjoy it and would happily watch another as long as they took great care with it.

Director James Mangold is debating people on twitter just days before he starts filming Indiana Joens 5. Twitter addiction is a sad thing.

It wouldn't exactly be a massive surprise, but Karen Allen is in London in July:

End of July? At that time they will likely already be filming somewhere else (such as Sicily or Scotland), so I don't think that indicates Allen will be in the film. I disliked her in Crystal Skull so I am hoping she won't be back. I could live with a small cameo, but nothing bigger please!

I imagine they'll be shooting in the studio for a while, and bear in mind the end of July is obviously when she's free to attend a comic con.

But they are married, so I would find it odd with her not returning.

Sure as hell Chris Pratt shouldn’t.
Ford looks great. He is Indy. No one else could play him.

    Exactly

I don't expect her to take part in the adventure, but I would find it a bit surprising if she didn't have a cameo for exactly that reason.

Apologies, I meant no else to play him as adult. River Phoenix was excellent as young Indy and Sean Patrick Flaubert.

I think it's a safe bet the franchise will probably get rebooted after this. Maybe not in the next 10 years, but eventually... and honestly, I wouldn't be that opposed to it. As long as the actor was good, it'd be fun to be able to return to what the classic movies were, seeing as the main movies have kept having to move forward.

I’m fine without Karen Allen too... I’m sure Mangold would handle her better but she was made a weak link by script and Spielberg in Crystal Skull

Some interesting set decoration appearing at the castle in a photo shown in this YT video. I'm not sure the guy's conclusions are 100% right as I can think of other possible explanations, but the photo is interesting nevertheless and he might be right.

It could be a few things I think: a flashback to the war (featuring a Colditz/Where Eagles Dare style castle?), or a 'present day' villainous lair etc. And of course Indy many not feature in the scene in either

I think it would be an event that happens in the 40’s that will connect to and have relevance in the 60’s.

    Perhaps something to do with
German V2 rockets and top secret rocket engineering taking place within the castle, featuring a German scientist, perhaps loosely based on Wernher von Braun, who escaped to US as the war was ending and then used his genius rocket engineering to lead the design and construction of the first US space rockets which eventually took man to the moon.

Sounds good, and what will be the religious or mythological McGuffin ?

Whether it's in the present day or a flashback, it does lend credence to the article about Mads Mikkelsen's character as a Nazi, or at least someone with Nazi ties.
  • Nazi's. I hate these guys.

Maybe Mutt gets kidnapped and Indy is like "Oh, that's nice" and walks away. Credits roll after one minute.

J/k. Although have we given any thought to whether Waller-Bridge could be Indy's daughter? I'm very doubtful that they will go that route after Mutt but stranger things have happened.

Maybe she could be someone Indy influenced into the lifestyle, much like how that man in the fedora influenced Indy when he was a boy in the flashback in TLC.

Perhaps the character played by PWB might be a Nazi-hunter. Indy would be placed in a difficult spot: Nazi working for the US space program, Indy dislikes Nazis, but Indy wants the US space program to outpace the Soviet space program...

Now don't shoot sight but I wonder if this new Indy film will take any hints or inspirations from the Uncharted game series. I understand Indiana is its own thing, and Uncharted was I assume heavily inspired by Indy, and they're even making their own film of that at the moment...

...but given the success of those games, the similarity between the two properties, and the part in which the games have played in the modern public consciousness, I just wouldn't be surprised. Not that it'd be obvious, and to be honest, I only thought this because of the use of a castle in Scotland which reminds me of Uncharted 4.

Well Indy is a tribute to pulp fiction, generally, so I don't think there would be anything wrong with taking influence from another pulpy fiction property.

On the subject of Uncharted, I'm looking forward to that film but the casting does worry me a bit. I was thinking that Bruce Willis would've made a good Sully: not exactly like the game version but I could have seen him working.

Yeah, for me, I was kind of on board with Holland, like I wasn't mad, even if I do think it might just be a Spider-Man/Cherry/Chaos Walking clone in an Indiana Jones/Tomb Raider coating, but my concerns rose even higher by the casting of Wahlberg in particular. It's not even the fact it wasn't an obvious choice for the role, more because Wahlberg (in my mind - we'll see) is just so wrong for it. And they seem to not even be giving him the moustache... which just seems... wrong haha :D
But we'll see, I'm still somewhat interested to see what we'll be delivered.
