I've been thinking that too. It almost seemed the easiest of the three.
When they first showed the plungers I immediately thought of the scene he mentioned in DAF, although it was only a second or two before the penny dropped. I think he genuinely decided in his own mind the answer was DAF without giving it enough thought.
Maybe that's what happened. I had to think the first prop through. It was either The Spy Who Loved Me or Octopussy. For Octopussy I thought it was in the scene in the PTS where Bond doubles for Taro and plants to the bomb in the hanger.
If I were David, I would have had to spend time thinking that through before answering.
