Edit: 2700 posts!!!
I always thought PG 13 was the same as a 12 here in the UK (Taken 2 is an example), but then some PG 13 films (like Licence To Kill, Die Hard 4 and Expendables 2), have gotten 15's over here.
Just looked it up, I was wrong, sorry, it was an R. I read ages ago it would be PG 13 because of Chuck Norris.
But then that's more confusing. If that's an R (which I always thought was the US version of an 18), why is it a 15 over here?
Actually, the swearing was toned down because of Chuck Norris. Sometimes, ratings just have to do with violence.
The french girl smokes, it was in the trailer I think, or a photo or something. Sadly I don't think Bond does.
This isn't the final rating, is it? The movie is not completely finished yet...
Sadly?!? Ha. I cringe when he smokes.
Years ago people smoking would have had no effect to a films rating. Like the Bond movies of yesteryear it wasn't a problem. In the modern era however smoking is seen differently by the powers that be. I dont smoke (I did occasionally socially with beers or a spirit or two years ago!) and have no issue with seeing Bond smoke in the older movies. I do however have no issue either with him not smoking in the Brosnan era (save for the cigar in DAD) and the Craig era. Smoking does not define him. Take away his smoking Walther then that would be a whole different point of view!
WE'RE GETTING CLOSE!!!!
Why?
I don't see why Bond has stopped smoking. He smokes. He smoked in the books and most of the films. I don't get why people are always on about how Bond should stay true to Fleming, and then are happy for him not to smoke? There's basically no reason for him not to, apart from it being "PC"
I'm all for in recent releases, getting some hard edged action and a Bond movie release, not so much for adults, but mature teenagers. Nothing too violent, no real extremes of profanities, just some fine action for that everyone can enjoy, while not being too sugarcoated as pre-Craig releases
Craig has been an on-and-off smoker in real life, and took up smoking for his role in TGWTDT, so why not one or two here for the film, as well?
I'm a non-smoker, and I'm always trying to get my family (who all smoke) to stop, though it's usually just in jest, because I know they won't. I have no problem with smokers in film, video games, books, comics. The only time I've ever had that problem was the novelization of Resident Evil Extinction, where damn near every character was described as a heavy smoker.
As far as Bond smoking, well, Fleming wrote him as a smoker, Gardner wrote hims as a smoker, Benson wrote him as a smoker, even Jeffery Deaver wrote his reboot Bond as a former smoker. Bond is a smoker or a former smoker, pure and simple.
Craig´s chiseled body doesn´t look at all like smoking. The black one yes, the small glowing ones, never. It fit all the other actors because even when trim none of them looked like he spent a tenth of the time in the gym Craig seems to have spent there.
Exactly my point.
Well throw any tantrum you want but 007 will not be smoking in the near future.
The kind of job 007 has makes it highly unlikely he smokes, and that is the reality of today. Smoking makes little sense and is no longer considered cool. And Fleming was a bit racist too and we do not have that in the movies these days do we? Times change and 007 has too change as well. His not smoking does not really alter his character.
Imagine Brosnan in DAD smoking a cigar while he was in that silly simulator. Just didn't fit.
Good stuff - just as every Bond film has been since GE (or at least a '12', before the '12A' came into being for cinemas)...
Yeah but he smoked at the bar in cuba and it fit fine.
I don't see why Bond can't smoke. He's smoked before and it's not like smokings illegal or something, people still smoke today. He could smoke in the casino scene from the trailer with Severine, or like @Creasy47 said, he could smoke while he was enjoying death.
@SaintMark I wouldn't say his job makes it highly unlikely, his job is pretty stressful, maybe he smokes when he's just having a break during the mission, like in the bar or casino?
Actually I didn't remembered that. Thanks for refreshing my mind.
We didn't see the whole movie yet, so maybe he smokes something out on the scenes we didn't see.
I agree that smoking makes little sense in general, however smoking being cool depends entirely on the presentation. It should be hard to make smoking look cool in a 60s Connery way, but then Connery didn´t really present it as a vice, and why sholudn´t Bond have one more imperfection? It wouldn´t pass the 12/13rating, but apart from that smoking could give Bond a dirtier appearance in a very cool, though not necessarily amiable, way.
However, since recent Bond is very much about visual impression, I stick to my previous point that Craig´s Bond simply does look much more like a fitness freak than a chain smoker. His physique just looks too healthy. He would have the face to play a chain smoker, but then he shouldn´t have this muscular body. The scraggy body he had in Cowboys and Aliens would fit rather well to a chain smoker.
It is my perogative and responsibility as a parent that is in place here. I find craigs Bond a tad on the aggresive side for younger kids.
