  • If Mendes does not return for SKYFALL (I for one hope that he will - i love his work as a director) then the pressure will really be on for the next director!...

That's the problem. EON need to prove again, they can produce high quality films with just two years between them. Having Mendes again seems the right way to go about achieving this.

You think.....this 'dreamcast' for 'Skyfall', makes it more apparent that other big actor names might want to be in a Bond film?

I think that's a possibillity. But only if Skyfall can achieve great box office success too!

Skyfall set to be 'most successful’ James Bond film

The latest 007 instalment Skyfall is set to be the most successful James Bond movie of all time and is predicted to make more than $1 billion (£622 million) at the box office. By Edward Malnick, and Melanie Mulhern

When its producers were so short of money they had to suspend planning of the latest Bond movie, Hollywood was both shaken and stirred.

Now, the critics have delivered their verdict, and there is good news for 007: Skyfall is on its way to becoming the most successful film in the 50-year history of the franchise.

It has been met with universal praise following its preview and is expected to storm to the top of the box office. Experts said the stunts were some of the best ever seen in a Bond film and one critic wrote that the dramatic opening sequence should merit an Oscar in itself.

Robbie Collin, the Telegraph’s film critic, said the action scenes were “the most beautiful in Bond’s 50-year career”.

Predicting Skyfall would be a “stratospheric hit”, he described the 23rd Bond film as “dazzling” and “utterly audacious”.

The early signs of success will be welcomed by Skyfall’s producers after work on the film was suspended in 2010 when Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, its studio, fell into severe financial difficulties. It was later rescued a deal that put a US firm, Spyglass Entertainment, at MGM’S helm.

The film, Daniel Craig’s third appearance as 007, received four and five-star reviews yesterday in the Daily Telegraph, Times, and Daily Mail, and in Empire magazine.

Experts predicted it could rival the success of Christopher Nolan’s two Dark Knight films, both of which earned more than $1 billion (£622m) at the box office.

Last night, Jane Crowther, editor-in-chief of Total Film magazine, said: “Nostalgia for Bond is at such a high now surrounding the anniversary.

“It is also a film that invites repeat viewings with its complex and rich script and performances. I think it has taken lessons from Dark Knight and, therefore, could do just as well in its takings.”

The reviews, following the film’s first preview in London, prompted widespread excitement about the film and thousands of comments on social networking websites.

The film is likely to make international stars of Bérénice Marlohe, 33, a French actress who plays one of Bond’s love interests, and Ben Whishaw, a 31-year-old British actor who plays Q, the MI6 quartermaster.

The last TWILIGHT movie will follow closely on the heels of SKYFALL, so I don't know.

Could be, but both films have completely different audiences.

For example, Christopher Nolan's 'Inception' opened on Froday July 16th 2010. Then only 1.5 week later the 3rd Twilight-film, 'Eclipse' opened on Wednesday July 30th.

$698,491,347 - Total worldwide boxoffice gross for 'Twilight III: Eclipse'
$825,532,764 - Total worldwide boxoffice gross for 'Inception'

Audience-wise, both film didn't steal each others visitors. More or less independently they grossed the above amounts of money.

Moreover, the fourth Twilight-film (premiere 18th of November 2011), 'Twilight IV: Breaking Dawn Part 1' didn't do substantially better than the 3rd Twilight-film: $705,058,657 wordlwide.

Also, Twilight is a lucrative franchise, but it's no Harry Potter or Lord of the Rings/The Hobbit. Twilight specifically aims for a young female audience, whereas Potter and LotR are more movies for allround family audiences.

And 'Skyfall'? It's quite obvious the Bond producers are aiming at the Christopher Nolan fans, the audience that visited the last two Batman-films and Inception. And again, that audience is hugely different from the Twilight-audience.

I think if 'The Hobbit' was premiering one week after 'Skyfall'......that would be more problematic.

I do think, however, that the Bond-productions really have grown bigger Samuel. We already saw the tight schedules for 'Tomorrow Never Dies', two years after 'GoldenEye' premiered and the tight schedule for 'Quantum Of Solace', two years after 'Casino Royale' premiered.

It seems to make the perfect Bond film, Barbara and Michael really prefer a 3 year gap as a standard instead of Cubby's usual 2 year gap. Also, the Bond films produced by Cubby (and Harry) were more formularic than the pos-Cubby-movies. You see that both Barbara and Michael treat the Bond films in a less strict way; they are willing to experiment a bit film after film. I think initially Cubby would not have liked their daughter and stepson's approach at first. But knowing Cubby from the documenatries a bit......I think that good old chap is smiling non-stop ;-).
