Jane Bond ? Yes or No ?

Stella Remington ( ex head British Secret Service) said on BBC news this morning that James Bond does not reflect the service of today - many women are now in the service and she says it's about time the cinema produced a 'Jane Bond' series. What do you think? This idea has already been tried in the 1960's with the 1966 film 'Modesty Blaise' a female alternative to James Bond. Despite the presence of star actors Dirk Bogarde and Terence Stamp the film is an unholy mess much akin to David Nivens 'Casino Royale' . 'Modesty Blaise' cost £3 million pounds to make ( a fortune at the time) and every pound is up there on the screen- an endless parade of changing sets, hundreds of extras, costumes, land and sea vehicles and foreign locations - all wasted by a terrible script and dire direction ( American Joseph Losey - normally a respected director) The screenwriter must have been on pot or LSD at the time(or both).

Can't say I'd like that it much. I like a female boss, don't like a female Bond.

A tired notion that has been done to death since the 90s (Sharon Stone anyone?).

I had hoped that the catastrophic Jinx had buried this idea forever but here it is again.

Cant we just file this along with black Bond and gay Bond as crappy ideas that should never see the light of day and move on?

We have female action heroes already! So it is a no for me. Especially if she was gonna rip off the Bond name? [-(

    =)) Good call!
  • That ad is the worst thing to come out of the Craig era, the QOS theme a close second.

Anyway, what about that new film, Haywire? More Jane Bourne than anything else but it's a female spy and it was good, I wouldn't mind a sequel.

They have tried this since the sixties each one has crashed and burned. I seemed to remember a TV series starring Jenny Seagrove which tried to do the same.

They came close to trying that before GoldenEye came out-- with the likes of Sharon Stone in the role! Glad they came to their senses in time.....

*Edit- however I wouldn't be against them including another OO Agent that was female-- and even included some of the same qualities as Bond. That could be cool actually. But they better kill her by the end of that movie; not interested in a 'spin off'. At all.

You mean so the actress can come out in interviews with the classic 'Shes a very strong character, much more like Bonds equal than the bimbos of the past' guff that we've had to listen to since Anya.

    Please God no.

Bond girls are there to be in peril, to be shagged and maybe killed as well.

They are not there to stand shoulder to shoulder with Bond, tooled up and ready to take the villains down.

Which of the following do you consider to be the list with the best Bond girls?

    1. Honey, Tania, Domino, Kara, Vesper

    2. Anya, Holly, Pam, Wai Lin, Jinx

I would be surprised if anyone on here could hand on heart say they prefer list 2.
  • If Jinx wasn't on there I'd prefer list two because Pam is my favourite Bond girl.

There was an interview with the girl who played I think Natalya before GE, and she said somehthing about how she wasn't going to go on about how she's strong and different, because most of the Bond girls have been strong.

Oh I know exactly what you mean and I don't want that either-- I'm not even calling this a 'Bond girl', but rather another OO agent that was female. Bond wouldn't sleep with this one; she'd be more of a friend/ally. And like I mentioned, she could get killed at the end just to make sure there's no spin-off ;)

Either way it'd be a hell of a lot better than freaking JANE BOND

I'd like to see a movie Based on the first Perfect Dark game. Joanna Dark was pretty much a spy in a futuristic setting. The Prequel PD: Zero was stupid in terms of story. But the first game would make an awesome movie.

    Nuff said.

I don't care if that happens because they've changed the original character tons anyway (none of the Bonds really look like book Bond and the only one to really act like him is Dalton), and he'd still be James Bond.

Making him a woman is a step too far.

I'd be all for it if it was a porn parody of all the Bond Films.

I'm on it. Just need a dodgy script, dodgy production company, dodgy funding, dodgy actors, dodgy locations, and a dodgy soundtrack.

    I may be awhile.
