To be honest I'm not sure any deserve a "best film" award (I'm being frank here) but if I were to give awards to the films they would be:

Best editing - From Russia with Love
    Best Cinematography - Skyfall
Best actress - Judi Dench - Skyfall
Best actor - Daniel Craig - Casino Royale (simply for the torture scene)

OHMSS and CR, the only two Bond films that can stand alone.

    That's your opinion. I find it a bit.....too black-and-white to be honest.

What about best original story for Skyfall?
  • Best Original song, every Connery film. Especially the extremely underrated From Russia with Love song at the end of the film.

Personally, I believe Casino Royale was a perfect film. Like, it should have been a more serious threat to films back in 2006 but because it's a Bond film, people wrote it off.
Daniel Craig should have earned an Oscar nomination for how he revolutionized how we see Bond and how he change the character forever. He brought a genuine wit and human element to Bond that I have never seen. Craig is Fleming's Bond, and I don't give about what anyone else says regarding my opinion.
Mads Mikkelsen, possibly best supporting actor. But Javier Bardem definitely earns that category. Direction, SF and CR. Cinematography SF.

Absolutely. I wish that Monro's song was put into the opening titles instead of just the musical accompaniment. It would be even higher on my list for it.

I think FRWL remains the best overall film but it would never win an Oscar. Not then and not now.
  • At the time it would of been difficult such was the caliber of other movie releases in the early 1960s. (take note kids - film making then was something to behold, not like some of the garbage releases of the last decade or directly before it) but if we look back now at all the other Bond releases, and I mentioned before, From Russia With Love is the one standout candidate that could win an award or Oscar (nomination). I don't think any other Bond release can quite stand up to it, but it's all about ages and past and present years perspectives possibly

Considering how many times we go back and watch old Bond films over and over again, then they must be pretty good films, and certainly deserving of at least one Best Film Oscar.

But if we are going to claim any particular film should have one, then its meaningless unless you compare it against that years winner - and other nominees - after all the Oscar is meant to signify being the best film that year.

For me, only FRWL, GF, TB and CR should have won.
  • And Best Picture goes to..... FRWL or OHMSS. In truth Bond will never win best picture but I can see a certain Oscar or two coming the franchise's way if they build on Skyfall's success. I think this time round Adele might actually win best song for Skyfall.
  • OHMSS doesn't NOT deserve an Oscar. :))

CR and TLD. And maybe GE.

OHMSS for sure. It has the complete package IMO.
  • Lazenby was too wooden for me. His performance is the reason that film isn't in my top 10.

Though not my favourite ( I like it, just not in my top 5) , objectively I can agree.
    L-)
  • If over hyperbole nonsense like Titanic can pull in a great haul of Oscars then Casino Royale is good enough to win. Probably only From Russia With Love comes close, but I really can't think of any other deserving titles. Skyfall ?, Yes, it was a fine release, but it's not even Daniel Craig's best..

CR was only like twice or three times better than Titanic, but Titanic had a cool love story attached to a historical event, so there ya go.

There lies the problem. Bond is a tried and tested very popular formulaic film franchise and there is not enough originality or daring to produce a movie that can tick the Oscar boxes. That said many Bond movies are far better than previous best film winners IMO.

I think that that's an over-simplification. I know that Titanic gets a lot of flack but there are two very important factors that favoured in to its win. The first is that the logistics of the shoot, and the achievement to bring it to the screen, were incredible. The academy is made of of film-makers so understanding the work that goes into a film, not just how the finished product appears on screen, can often be a factor.

The second is box office. Now, I'm not suggesting that the Oscar should go to the biggest box off ice success each year, but consider this. Every once in a while, there will be a new "biggest film of all time", often eclipsing the previous one by, say, $50 million dollars. When Titanic came out it doubled the box office take of the previous #1 film of all time (Jurassic Park). The fact that Cameron made a film that connected with so many audience members, all across the world, across different cultures - that as well was a stunning achievement.

Whether we agree that the above are valid (in our opinions) criteria for choosing Titanic as Best Picture the academy certainly did.

  • It seems like most of us agree From Russia With Love deserves the award, I would also say Casino Royale and Goldeneye. Maybe Goldfinger and OHMSS too.
  • I would argue for FRWL and/or OHMSS and not because I Happen to think, that they are the best Bond Flics (which i actually do) but for Peter Hunt reinventing/redefining cutting and the Way a Movie could be directed. Whenever I See OHMSS I'm constantly impressed how much especially the Second and the third Bourne Film (and therefore QoS)owe to it.

Casino Royale would get my vote :)
  • Again I have to agree with most on here and say FRWL.
I want to say GF and LALD as they are my favourites but FRWL is much more gritty and real than my favourite two.
