I find this man very inappropriate for Bond. Anyone from the Zimmer school of film computers composers needs to stay away from Bond as far as they can.

You and I are most definitely "singing from the same hymn sheet", DD. The thought of Zimmer or one of his clones inflicting their bland bombast on Bond is too horrifying for words. Jeez, I'd rather have Eric Serra back!
  • I disagree that Zimmer is a bad composer - I think it's only because he's gotten a bit lazy over the years (or he had so much work for so many films) piling up that he's forced to recycle more and more of his scores. If you look back at the things he did before Batman, he made some impressive arrangements (and even Inception was very unique, soundwise):

And these themes are definitely not bland...

  • I would be curious to see what composer Thomas Newman would do to an action/spy franchise like Jason Bourne, Batman, Mission Impossible or indeed James Bond. He has mostly done (romantic) drama pictures. Perhaps 'Jarhead' is Newman's only action packed score.

Having said that, I think Thomas Newman, who is not working on any project right now, could get great new inspiration especially for a James Bond film.

But first, let's pay attention to the FANTASTIC soundtrack Michael Giacchino created for 'Mission Impossible IV: Ghost Protocol'! It's pumping, it's fully orchestral, almost empty of electronic cues and very loyal to Lalo Schifrin's original theme! This one sticks to your mind. Babs and Michael? Put Michael Giacchino on EON's payslip!

FAR better than MI:II for sure. Limp Bizkit anyone?

Haha I'm beginning to love Giachinno more and more. Definitely one of the most wholesome and best composers of our time. And so young in his career too!

I've been a fan of Giachinno since he scored MI:3 which I thought pretty great and he even found a way to Incorporate one of the secondary themes from the TV show. Then, came his score for UP which was even better and of course his score for Super 8 perfectly fitted that films nostalgic feel. I wouldn't mind it one bit if got a chance to do a Bond film. Still I see Thomas Newman or a return of David Arnold as the more likely options at this point. One can only dream though.

So stoked for MI:IV, including the 6 minute preview to TDKR at the beginning. Definitely worth the IMAX venture.

Anyways. How about a Tarantino score for a Bond film? Something new! Explanation:
Tarantino's scores to his films are most commonly comprised of a series of songs from various films and artists, and usually his films don't have a set composer. He often even asks artists he's fond of to write him little bits for certain scenes. What if this was implemented into a Bond film. We have the Bond theme, ahem the several Bond themes from throughout the films. There's plenty of classic scores that could be re-used. But what if they pulled from other sources as well, and dropped a composer?

VERY VERY controversial, and I'm not saying I would back this 100%, but its a thought.

If Spielberg or Abrams is ever slightly attached to a Bond film, I bet money Giacchino's name will be thrown in. ONE CAN ONLY DREAM EVERY NIGHT UNTIL IT HAPPENS OR THEY DIE. Something like that. I'm not obsessed.. 8->

Definitely. I don't know how I feel about Jeremy Renner taking over though :/ I love me some Cruise. But I would like to see the series continue..

This scene is sooo good. But also sooo stolen from the opening of 'Casino Royale', where 007 is screaming to his MI6-colleague: "Stop touching your ear!!!"

By the way, Tom Cruise actually looks like James Bond-007 in that scene. B-)

But he's not relying on it, like cough Arnold cough. He's mixing tradition and setting it for a modern film. MI has come a loooong way from what it was in the 90's. I guarantee you his entire soundtrack will not consist of techno.

Just saw Luc Besson's 'The Lady'... Eric Serra's wonderful oriental score puts Arnold totally to shame, and almost tops Barry's greatest soundtracks... Bring Serra back now !!

It actually worries me. I would like the composer to be invovled in the process very early, so that there is a feel of the music with the movie. Not a post-production-didn't-talk-to-the-director-about-the-score mock up.

I'm sure they already have somebody on it. They just haven't made a public announcement yet. I'm hoping that's the case.

That piece is by Vitaliy Zavadskyy, not Michael Giacchino. I don't believe the actual score's been released yet. Though from what I've heard in clips, I'm not too impressed.

it's all speculation, the only sure thing is David Arnold has not been confirmed.

Anyway I would love A LOT of "The James Bond theme" in the score, after all is the 50th anniversary...

Moreover I tend to enjoy a scene better when the background is JB theme, such as in FRWL, LALD, TND...

    TND is a horrible score.
    </blockquote>

    Well, that's your opinion.

I love the soundtrack. It has so many wonderful tracks, 'White Knight', 'Paris and Bond', etc.</blockquote>

TND's score is basicly the Bond theme over and over again.

how is that a bad thing? the theme rocks and i love the bit at the end before the "in memory of Albert Broccolli"

as much as i like the theme, the more it's played in a movie- the less powerful it is.
