"Quantum of Solace" makes Bond 'Cool'...

As i am aged 14, yet a huge fan of the James Bond 007 film franchise, i tend to take a lot of interest into what my friends at school think of the films.

The strange thing is that whenever i say that Casino Royale, GoldenEye and Goldfinger are great Bonds, nearly everyone says "Nah, Quantum of Solace is better". They seem not to care at all about the previous lot.

Due to this i think that EON need to think a bit, before filming Bond 23, in order to make Bond still a good icon to kids now-a-days, they'll have to have great and entertaining action sequences like those of QoS, along with what makes a Great Bond film.

Now i started this, because i want to here your thoughts on this, and whether anyone you know comes accross with the same opinion?

This reaction you seem to be hearing, is it coming from people of the same age as you? Flat-out wall-to-wall action movies like QOS, in this case featuring James Bond, will most certainly be much more cooler in the mind of younger people than a slower GF or OHMSS. And, of course, the newest movie is always cool in the mind of the younger demographic. If the next movie is good, the young audience will switch their attention to that one, when it gets released.

well if they made same movie elements as those in QoS than it will probably made non-Bond fans happy but Bond fans unhappy.
of course they think QoS is cool they watched other action movies so that is what they expect from action movie, they dont expect something else

Yes, i think that as we get older though, that their opinions will alter, but i don't exactly think this, i love Goldfinger, FRWL, etc.

Well, I think if all EON are worried about is whether they can make Bond "cool" and appealing to 14yr olds, then they'll have severely dropped the ball.

Sure, there's a need to appeal to the widest demographic possible, sure it's important to EON to get their 12A, but Bond is not Transformers, and neither should they be marketing it in that way.

Let's not forget that whilst there is a huge market from the teen demographic, the franchise has a built-in fanbase that is considerably wider in age. There are fans from every age group, from 16 to 60. To focus on just making Bond "cool" for the teen market will alienate many of their existing fans - and that's a lot of bums on seats they can't afford to lose.

My feeling is that they won't try to turn Bond into Twilight of Harry Potter. If anything, they'll continue to turn to Oscar winning actors, directors and writers to make the franchise more adult in content.

The final Twilight installement will be released 1 week after Bond 23, so I fear EON will have to appeal to the teen demographic to the level of DAD, in order to not lose too much of this younger demographic. On the other hand, with the likes of Fiennes and Bardem being linked to roles in B23, it seems EON could leave the teens to Twilight, and have a more ' fun adult adventure' movie similar to TB or TLD, which doesn't connect with the teen audiences.

To hell with appealing to younger audiences. I want to one day have an R rated Bond movie 8-X

EON should never pander to the 'yoof' audience. They did that with DAD and look what happened. And what sort of icon is a man who dresses stylishly, drives the best cars, and eats and drinks caviar and Taittinger to the cinema going kids who lap up dross like Transformers and the latest Vin Diesel opus?
The overdose of action in QOS is the main reason it ended up as a dissappointment. I would happily lose the pointless boat chase and plane chase for 10 more minutes of plot.

I agree with this. I've often wondered what a bond film could be like if they weren't constricted by the pg-13 rating.

I'm glad this has been brought up as it's something that may hurt the film. The last film went up againist the first Twilight but as the series has grown this last film could post quite a problem for Bond 23's all important second-week drop off.

This is the only other major release that November as Monsters University will now be released in Summer 2013.
