Sir Roger Moore has predicted that Skyfall is going to be a huge hit following a private screening over the weekend, and has nothing but good things to say about the incumbent 007.

Speaking at "An Evening With Roger Moore" at the Rose Theatre in Kingston-Upon-Thames last night Sir Roger revealed, "I was invited on Saturday morning to a private screening of Skyfall. Now, I have always said that the best Bond was obviously Sean [Connery], but I’m happy to say when Skyfall is released on October 26, it is going to be the biggest [Bond film] there has ever been in the cinema, and he [Daniel Craig] will go down as the best Bond in history. It is fantastic."

Speaking to packed house on the former 007's 85th birthday to promote his new book Bond on Bond, Sir Roger went on to reveal how he had always backed Craig to make a big impact, "Before I saw Skyfall, I felt very angry about the way that the English press treated Daniel Craig. Before he’d started [Casino Royale] they predicted doom and gloom and they criticised him. I used to write letters of support to him, and I was so pleased when I saw Casino Royale because he was truly excellent in it. He’s a wonderful actor, if you’ve seen Munich or In Cold Blood, you know he’s a terrific actor."

I only remember from TWINE onwards (born in 1988) but every film released since has come with the tag "The Best Bond Ever" even DAD so I don't believe a word of anyone until I see it myself

Nevertheless, he's one great guy for being so positive about SF. Not like that other fella whose silence on the subject is deafening.

Thanks, Rog, for admitting what we already know.

    Fellow Agents,
Sir Roger repeated more or less the same thing last night in Basingstoke.
What an absolute delight that guy is. He is a national treasure.

  • I like Moore and SF looks like the best Bond since GE but he's said this before.

He said before Goldeneye everyone would forget about him and Connery once they saw Brosnan.

Sounds like a nice man. Rather have a drink with the man than watch his 'Bond' films.

Rog's recommendation carries weight for me. That's not just because he is my favorite Bond. He endorsed CR but, was down on QOS. He was spot on regarding those two. I trust he is right about Skyfall.

Totally agree. Don't like his films for the most part, but a great guy, and the best ambassador the series could have.

Well, he's certainly right about who the best James Bond is...

    He was.

In a few years I doubt he'll be right, but for now Sf has done some impressive feats when it comes to BO.

He said it would be the biggest one. Wasn't he ever right.

Sir Roger Moore was right. SF pulled an amazing BO trick which, even if money doesn't mean everything, cannot be entirely disregarded. No matter what opinion people hold of the film, it cannot be denied that SF is the biggest Bond film in terms of it absolute returns.

Of course he was right. This is not even debatable.

Sir Roger is never often wrong about James Bond and he is right again with this judgement of his. You can always depend on Roger to fly the Bond flag high much moreso than the other actors who have played the lead role over the years...

Well yeah, he said it would be the biggest, and it went on to be the best selling Bond ever. There's no argument or debate, it's a fact that he was correct in that statement. It's an objective truth.
  • I think that's so Sir Rog can promote Unicef, that he tends to promote Bond too, fair enough I'll say, though a tad disturbed he rated SF so highly in view of Bond's 'immoral' behaviour in it imo (standing by to watch an assassination unfold, the whole Severine scene etc).
  • Turns out he was right.

I have no idea how inflation and all the rest of it works but @Suivez was making a good case for TB still being the biggest in the box office thread.

No I think even taking inflation into account, SF took more at the box office than TB.

I'd imagine so. All this debate over the biggest is tiresome. SF did bloody well at the box office. Whether or not it beat the vastly inferior TB is a side-issue for me!

I agree, all this piddling around with numbers means very little to me in terms of the overall success both films enjoyed. I was barely old enough to remember Bondmania, just bits and pieces in my recall of the amount of merchandise and how excited all the grownups were when YOLT came out or when a special aired on TV. Just to see a Bond film reach these lofty heights again, yet alone garner extra recognition from the Academy was something I never thought I'd ever see in my lifetime. Both are top 10's and I have TB one slot ahead in my personal rankings so the rest is pointless babbling.
