The Most Heart Touching Scenes In Bond Films

  • Tracy's death was probably the most significant scene, but the shower scene with Vesper in CR resonates with me stronger than other mentions probably because it felt authentic. Great acting and score to accompany the moment (a.k.a. Vesper's theme).

I think the top moment for me is most certainly when:
Bond cries and kisses M's forehead after she dies.

I know Brady stated it earlier, but it's such a powerful, emotional scene. I would be lying if I said I didn't tear up when I watched it.

You're kidding right? Bond getting teary just for breaking some bad news? I'm surprised this scene has made other people's list too. I always thought that Paula's death was my standout scene ('heart touching-wise' anyway)

considering that there is absolutely no other reason for him to put on a pair of shades - why else would he?.... i always thought it was weird that he put on the shades, and always wondered why - when he obviously didn't need them prior... it's because he's masking the emotion in his eyes... its also not only him breaking some bad news, but handing over her brother's effects - and then seeing how it affected Domino.

  • I've had a good think about this and I've got to go with the final scene of OHMSS.
The whole scene is so well done and I think George does a really convincing job of showing his emotion. I like the way that the credits role over the bullet hole in the windscreen. I like the soft music - even that is emotional.
The only bit that I'm not sure about is the close up of Blofeld. That looks a trifle too comical for me, with the neck brace. Not to mention the fact that he would probably have been decapitated by that tree, but that's for another thread.......

I always thought it was purely to look damned cool - which he certainly did
A bit like this - B-) (but more so)

    "Moneypenney crying at Bond's wedding"

I always hated that. It's nice that they have a flirtatous relationship however, it won't be anythng but because she's not really his type. So, to see her crying because Bond is getting married makes Moneypenny look pathetic.
  • My pick has to be...
James Bond and M at the chapel in Skyfall. Bond's reaction to M's death really left me speechless.
Yeah, I agree. That one stands out or me, too. Lazenby's scene with Riggs at the end of On Her Majesties Secret Service is another I find quite good, as is Craig's scene with Vesper's body at the end of Casino Royale. Also liked Craig's last scene with Kurylenko in Quantum -- that was nicely played, I thought, and quite touching.

Hard to rank them, but here are mine:

    1. M in Skyfall (not saying which scene and actually there are two for me)
    2. Vesper's death
    3. Tracy's death
    4. Vesper and Bond in the shower, him comforting her almost wordlessly
    5. Mathis's death
    6. Paris's death (especially as he says his final silent goodbye to her, after killing Kaufman)
    7. Desmond's farewell
    8. Bond and Moneypenny's interaction at his wedding
    9. 009's death in OP (hunted and killed while in that clown suit, trying to get to the British ambassador)
    10. Aki's death
    11. Melina's parents' murder (ending with that intense closeup of her eyes)
    12. Bond's reaction when Anya mentions Tracy
    13. Lisl's death
    14. Bond coaching Camille to shoot to kill, that she had only one shot, to make it count (the tone of this was so sensitive and subtle, not mere instructions)
    15. Coach Brink telling Bibi she would never leave her (yes, that particular short moment I found moving; maybe because I've been a coach)
    16. Bond giving air to Wai Lin underwater
    17. Jill Masterson's golden death

The Chapel, Not only was her death sudden it shows us how their relationship changed from Bond sitting their like a cocky school boy, calling her a B h in the therapy(?) scene to kissing her dead body.

Also The Obvious deaths of Tracy, Paris and Vesper. As well as the Shower scene.
Then theres the shooting contest in SF. I don't know if you'll agree with me but... The fact that bond tried(?) to miss. Then to see Silva just shoot her and gleefully claims victory. Also Bond's brief look backwards helps sell the scene.
  • SPOILERS:
(not that one can really avoid them with this topic)
    1. Skyfall the chapel scene
    2. Tracy's death
    3. Mathis' death
    4. Horse's arse
    5. Camille kills Medrano
    6. Vesper's death
    7. Saunders... thank you
    8. License to Kill with Felix

No. It would be Dario cutting that guy's heart out.

I feel a bit sad when Vjay dies, I liked him. Also Saunders, and I felt bad for Felix when Della died.

But really the only death that actually makes me properly sad is Tracy's in OHMSS. Mainly because of the wedding scene before it and because Lazenby plays it so well.

It's funny because Vespers death is much more dramatic, but I never really felt sad when she died. Mainly because I didn't buy into her and Bonds relationship that much.
I didn't feel sad when M died either. I felt bad for Bond, and after all my bitching before the film about her being overused, I enjoyed M in SF more than I had done before in the Craig era.

But I never really warmed to her much in Craigs films and even in SF I thought she came across as a bit unlikeable during bits of it. If I liked the character more, I'd have been sadder.

My two all time favourites are 1)quantum when he holds camille in the flames, after she shoots the general and you think it's the end, he holds her and she repeats his advice about making it count.
Skyfall when severine asks him to help her!

This scene with Camille is one of my favorites. I think after Vesper Bond probably trained himself to think women were dumb and inconvenient so that he wouldn't let his guard down again, but Camille proved him wrong and she was probably the only man-hater that he never managed to seduce.

I see no reason at all to call her character a "man hater".

    @thelivingroyale,
what does M do that makes you think she's unlikable?
    I am just curious.
  • Well in QOS I got sick of the whole trust issue thing and how much they were using her.

In SF, there was more humour with her and Bond, which made me like her better. But the interrogation scene with Silva made me think she was unlikeable. She's basically created this insane evil villian, she sold him out to the chinese, and she doesn't show any remorse. I felt bad for him.

She did talk to Bond about how she'd messed up later on, but I took that as she was guilty because of the list and the dead agents, not because of Silva.

These are some of my favorite things from Skyfall.
M made a call that, though it may seem evil, worked out for a clean transition in China at the time. Silva was the one who stepped past his boundaries and did things that he wasn't ordered to do, so he deserved punishment. He was a danger to his own government. When M traded him she got back more agents from the Chinese who wouldn't cross that line, so she got more good apples and threw out the bad seed. It was all in the best interests of the British government. In the espionage business those tough calls have to be made, and there is very rarely a choice that seems absolutely moral. Someone or something usually has to get hurt for things to work in a government's favor. That's just reality, which you very well know after fighting bravely for your country.

In fact, I don't think M is the one who "created" Silva's evil at all. Granted, you would grudge about that, but like I said: He is the one who stepped out of line, and M did is what she had to do, and what was required of her. He is the one who is such a pathetic and selfish human being that he will kill anyone who got in his way just to get revenge on an old woman for what she did a decade or so earlier. His only reason to live is to get her, and in effect die with her. Silva is the one who created his own villainy, not M. He let the evil take control until his life meant nothing more to him that to get revenge. What the Chinese did to Silva was out of her control, and though he was her favorite agent at the time, that trust she thought she had with him was lost with his betrayal. That is why I think trust is so important to her. She sees that same recklessness in Bond and tries to steer him in the right direction before he becomes Silva 2.0. And in effect, we see a mature and loyal Bond in Skyfall.

okay that's probably going a bit far. but i personally get the feeling that if she wasn't so horrified by Medrano, and by having to get Greene on his back, she would have slept with Bond at some point.
  • The avalanche scene in TWINE stands out to me. Pierce really sold that scene and I was touched at how caring his Bond was. It makes me feel bad for him once the twist is revealed and you know he's been played. He had his moments, that's for sure.

Tracy's death, yeah, but one of my favorite moments in OHMSS is when Bond escapes down the mountainside and is on his last leg, just sitting on a bench in front of the ice skaters, obviously exhausted and scared that Blofeld's guys are gonna get him. Then two legs skate up and stand in front of him and he looks up and sees Tracy. I just love the look between the two of them. His relief and her delight.

But I'm sorry, the scene in CR when he sucks Vesper's fingers in the shower is LAUGHABLY AWFUL.
