LOS ANGELES (AFP) - Daniel Craig wanted to get out of the role of James Bond from his first appearance as the famed British spy, he said in an interview published as the latest 007 movie was released in the US Friday.

The 44-year-old British actor, known for being tight-lipped with the media, also admitted that he has trouble stopping himself Googling his own name and has no problem with performing full-frontal nude scenes.

"I've been trying to get out of this from the very moment I got into it," he told Rolling Stone magazine.

"They won't let me go, and I've agreed to do a couple more. But let's see how this one does, because business is business," he added.

The interview was given before the new Bond film "Skyfall" became a hit. It took over $320 million worldwide and expected to make over $75 million on its US debut weekend, according to box office tracker Exhibitor Relations.

Over a few beers with the magazine, known for winkling indiscretions out of interviewees, Craig opened up about his obsession with himself online.

"I really try not to," he said when asked if he Googled his own name. "I really, truly try. But then I can't help myself."

"I mean, I could probably put a lock on the computer, but yeah, anyway, it's a sickness. But that's it. Except for maybe I'll look up some porn occasionally. Hey, I'm only human."

He has no problem with full-frontal nudity, having bared all in a number of films including "Some Voices" in 2000.
"Being naked has never been an issue for me," he said. "Whether it's male or female, I don't have a problem with a naked body. I've done it onstage and I've done it in a number of films. But no, I won't be doing it in a Bond movie."
  • Generally speaking, people who are DESPERATE to leave a franchise don't sign contracts locking them into an additional two movies just two months ago....

The guy makes a joke and the whole world buys it. This video is even more ridiculous by saying Idris Elba is in talks to be the next Bond and that Javier Bardem was once in talks for the role by twisting interviews. Typical "entertainment news".

My answer to the question in the thread-title:

Just as legit, as having Santa Claus and the Easter Bunny over for a cup of tea.
  • These quotes didn't originate with the Daily Mail. The quotes originated from an interview with Rolling Stone magazine.

Here's a preview of that article. That actual article isn't online.

Hardly likely is it? Who on earth would want to leave the Internationally famous 007 franchise especially given the success of CR and SF. I also think that Craig will certainly want to equal (or more likely beat) Brosnan's 4 outings as 007, I mean, why wouldn't he...
  • Is the RS Article for real? It really sounds strange, the joke and all that. I just can't see Craig opening to a reporter with such a joke and, being a guy who wants to protect his privacy, talking about porn and what not....

That said, I actually don't really care. However after all I read and have seen from him, it does not fit into the overall image.

Back in 1987, Dalton sued a British newspaper who said he quit as soon as TLD was released. This story is idiotic. Craig would never openly say that especially in an age where your every word is over analysed thanks to the internet.

And he will do another after the success of Skyfall unless he puts on extreme weight or becomes a slob.

But what I like about Craig is that he wants the films to be good films first and foremost. He is an actor with integrity and I respect that. He is not playing the role because he has a 15 year old boy style fantasy of being James Bond.

There's something very weird about that interview for sure..... It doesn't sound like Craig at all, unless they fed him so much beer he got very, very drunk.
The joke, okay, maybe... but then all the other stuff he apparently discussed. Even if they where true, after all the shit he's giving (for instance) the Kardashians, to discuss his private life like this.... I don't think so.

It might be them twisting his words around, or they are out to harm him (which would be weird), or Craig playing a trick on the journalist, seeing how far he can go and what he can get published...
During the release of Cowboys & Aliens Craig admitted to Jon Favreau in an interview that he did Google himself during the filming of CR, but just closed the laptop and never looked back at all the shit he read, so his comments here seem off.

By the way: when is that Rolling Stones issue released?

I would say Rolling Stone misquoted the hell out of Dan. No doubt to selfishly sell more issues.

Whatever. Didn't even read the article. Upon getting the role, Craig was old enough and certainly smart enough to see what was on his plate. All I can see here is baloney. Plus, I believe Craig is more respectful and private about such matters.
