Hi this has been discussed a lot. Here's the link I was given, you'll see your not the only one to question it's place in the film.

Which is good. But I hope that they'll have modern AM's in B24 & 25... :-$
Either that or, if we consider these cars were used by the MI6 in the 60's, and since Bond loved the car so much, he could have managed to get an old "service car" for his personal collection.
I'll just pretend that as a OO agent, your personal car gets a machine gun and ejector seat installed as standard opporating precedure- just in case.
Maybe there's another OO agent out there with a Smart Car with the same treatment, lol
Instead of relying on past homages to include in the film , why not introduce fresh ideas and new memorable moments. When I saw Daniel firing the machine guns out of the DB5 I almost got up and walked out. I felt like a idiot. as if the writers just thought so lowly of us to just completely forget about the fact he won that car in CR. The movie at best was a grade B generic action film with no real solid story or plot. Seriously a car shooting generic henchman outside of Bonds home? what is this home alone 5 ?
Same here. I had no problem with it, in any case, I thought it was about time we had a recurring, retro-tech gadget, not a new car with lazer and missiles and what not.
To have prevent the unanswered questions maybe it would have been fun if the new Q had it modified and this could have been his introduction to the movie.
In any event the reason why the gadget DB5 was in Skyfall was to pay homage to the glorious past and to help celebrate the 50th Aniversary. It was a nice touch and I am grateful for its appearance as it is a beautiful car.
What do you mean? The DB5 is a classic car, one of the best. I would want it in my film to. It's tops, the best of the best. That stuff bugged you in Skyfall, but all the generic soliders/bodyguards/henchman that Bond kills/injures in CR don't bother you in the slightest? CR is just as unfounded as Skyfall can be, especially when you consider Bond did flip after flip after flip after flip after flip after flip after flip in the Aston yet didn't receive any devastating injuries that would impede his movement or anything. I love CR, but there are tons of moments where liberties are taken to the extreme. It wouldn't be Bond without them, and until you face the fact that CR and Skyfall are alike in those ways you will just be in denial for all of us to laugh at.
If you want to blame someone, the machine guns were Sam Mendes' idea, not the writers. And that was one of my favorite moments in the movie.
That's also my assumption. The convert into a right wheel and add the modifications as been regular in MI6 (that's way M knew about the ejector seat). However, that's just a minor rationality of a great film!
