All I stated was I think some people overly-criticize summer blockbusters like this, when you should just go in and enjoy it.
OK if it I see it again, I'll remember to enjoy it.

@timmer, now I can't tell if you're being sincere or sarcastic. I'm not even asking you or telling you to sit down and force yourself to enjoy it, it's just films like these COULD be enjoyed if you go in and have the mindset to not nitpick every single aspect of the film.

Whatever. You are making a lot of assumptions here. First off I didn't attend with the mindset to nit-pick. Why would I? I dine out on this type of film. I see virtually everything the genre produces, escapist/fantasy action films.
This one IMO scraped the bottom of the barrel, even for the genre. I enjoyed it for about a half hour and then watched if flatline. I'm with the movie critics on this one. I can't even say I really much enjoyed after the little posse left town in search of the oversized alien whose kind somehow manage to fit in those not-so-big scout ships. Maybe the slimey gooey aliens manage to compress and spread themselves about the ship.
Who knows? Mystery girl Ella wasn't telling us much.

And that's fine. But don't call me a fanboy because I enjoyed a film that you didn't like.

OK, fanboy comment retracted. Done. :)

Did anybody else just think "EPIC!" when Daniel Craig aimed under his horse with the wrist-blaster thingy and shot the starfighter in mid-chase? That was one of the best moments in the movie for me! My brother and I whispered at the same time, "That was EPIC!"

OK let's calm down in here @timmer and @Creasy47. We don't have the same tastes, and albeit I didn't watch the film, I can understand timmer's point of view. He's seen a few others, and clearly isn't happy with just getting popcorn. But again, some other members can go ahead and enjoy that same popcorn and be happy with it. No need for name calling.

That was beyond beautiful. Or Craig's initial attack on the three guys in the desert? Takes them all out so quick. Even the fight in the bar, he has the upper hand on all of them, and Wilde has to ruin it.

I can't comment on the film itself, as I have not seen it and have no interested in doing so. But the title sounds like it could have made a great 70's or 80's cult film. The kind of film that would now be put onto DVD by Arrow or Shamless.
Interesting point, Major. Saw it tonight. Only the 3rd Daniel Craig film I've yet watched.Take a wild guess as to the other 2 ;-) Anyhow, I give it **1/2 out of ****. Not nearly as good as CR but massively better than QOS. Main problem was the lack of a compelling narrative. Taking the War of the Worlds concept and putting in the old west is an intriguing idea but it lacked for me the human element to make it a complete success. Nonetheless, a watchable enough summer popcorn flick that'll probably play better on home video.

so should I see this at the theater or not - the reviews on it are horrendous (most of them are).

Friends with Benefits and Winnie The Pooh and Crazy Stupid Love and Captain America and Rise of the Planet of the Apes are getting better reviews than this film!!

If you are a fan of the genre ( big budget escapist/fantasy/action films) go see it, but not ahead of Captain America or Apes. Cap is one of the best of the recent comic book lot and while I haven't seen the latest Apes, I'm really looking forward to it. Sounds like not only a well done, big budget thriller but also with smarts, much like the 1968 original.

@00Beast, absolutely. Bet it's going to look great on blu-ray, hopefully it comes out by the end of the year.
DVDs of films usually(can't think when they haven't)hit markets 5 months on the first Tuesday after the film releases. You'll get it by 2012.

@0Brady, I've seen a few films out in four months. If they want to cash in on the Christmas market, they may get it out by then. Also, with all of the summer blockbusters still being released, it's likely that it won't be in theaters for too much longer.

@j7wild, I would recommend it, as I really enjoyed myself and felt it was worth every penny. It's one of those hit-or-miss films, where people hated it and thought it was garbage, or loved it and can't wait to see it again. If you're still cautious, Captain America is apparently one of the better comic book movies that's been released, and Rise of the Planet of the Apes has been getting very good reviews.

Damn, it looks like a 64% drop in US this week. It may not even hit $100 million now.

I'll be seeing it this weekend and I'll be sure to share my thoughts.

Whatshisface probably wishes he had gotten Robert Downey Jr in the cast, like he was rumored to play the main character before Craig, reportedly, replaced him because of the new Sherlock Holmes movie.

Favreau. Yeah, it probably would have been much more bankable with Downey in the lead.

Downey is a excellent actor having seen chaplin and Sherlock Holmes recently.
I don't know if he could have improved the film though.

Just saw Rise of the Planet of the Apes. It was alright. Very slow movie, I felt, leading up to an alright finale. I would recommend Cowboys over Apes now.

Sadly, no. She does get naked at one point, but it's a knees and down, shoulders and up shot.
