I like the look of it, the film should be alright. Let's hope better than the first. I'll wait until we see Smaug in full before passing judgement on the design.

I was quite disappointed with the first film. It was the first time, when watching a Middle-Earth movie, that I actually stopped paying attention halfway through. I hope this is just a thing that comes from the movie not being "finished". I'm certain, once all three are out on Extended Edition DVD, I'll probably be able to pay attention, but this was a journey both on screen and off for me.

The additional 10 weeks of filming finished today. Well done all. Can't wait to see the other two films.

Now Peter Jackson won't be going back to Middle-Earth until he films The Silmirillion.

I hear that he live-blogged the final day of shooting of the film on Facebook. Sounds pretty cool. Looking forward to the next one; it'll be the first I see in theaters.

New banners (I especially like the Thranduil one):

I wish there was one for Bilbo, since he's the main character!

    And now, the new trailer:

I like it much more than the first one, despite the dodgy CGI! A lot of hobbity goodness, Thranduil, Elvenking in all his glory, and last but not least Smaug, the Magnificent! A bit surprised at the effects they put in Cumberbatches voice but still, it sounds dragon-like whatever that might mean.

Cumberbatch sounds epic. EoN do everyone a favour and just cast the man as the next Bond villain already.

Really looking forward to this family outing

It looks great. One of the only films I'll see this year. Hopefully it's better than the first.

I talked about the Thranduil banner but somehow forgot to include it:

...Cumberbatch voices Smaug. What else can they do to make this film even more perfect? I'm so excited.

Excellent banners and having Cumberbatch voice Smaug? Absolute genius! Roll on December!!!!

That's quite frightening and not something I would show to young children! These next two films should be great and with any luck, better than the first.

I never read the books and I've only seen the LOTR trilogy once, but I loved 'The Hobbit.' I know a lot of people found it slow or hard to get through, but I thought it was excellent.

Me too, I really enjoyed it. If the Hobbit follows the pattern of the Lord of the Rings, then the best is yet to come. Now, at least, everything has been set up.

I thought that final, slo-mo sequence at the end of the film was excellent.

It was used to great effect. There's a lot to love about that film and it's great knowing more is on the way in a couple of months as well as next year.

Absolutely. Looking forward to finally seeing a Jackson/Tolkien film in theaters. Completely missed out on the LOTR trilogy and it took me years to finally get around to watching them. I don't plan on missing out on these next two.

Its getting closer! BC does strike a rather evil pose doesn't he? :-)) The second Hobbit film is eagerly awaited by myself and better half!

In case anyone is interested, in a little more than an hour there will be a live event with some cast and crew. The event will be broadcast to 7 theaters around the world and online.

This film should be a great end to the year, it looks much improved comapred to the last one so Warners are no doubt hoping for even better Box Office.

There's a new poster out too, you know.

    And trailer:

    This is the fan event:

It looks good, except for what I fear will be
a lame love story between Legolas and that girl
(which of course, isn't from the novel).

This is one of the only films I'm really, really excited for for the rest of the year, so I'm going to tease myself and avoid trailers/spots/posters until its release.

I'm sorry if I spoiled something with my comment, @Creasy47... The story of The Hobbit is so familiar to me sometimes I - wrongly - believe everyone knows it.

Oh, no no, you're fine. I actually read your comment, but I don't recall anything spoilerish whatsoever. My mind fails me right now. I'm so pumped for this, but I guess with the novels being around for quite some time that spoilers will be abound. I'm just ready to rewatch the first on blu-ray and go see this one.
