Not who I'm thinking of sorry.

A clue - We go back the 80's for this actor. Bond ensured he was knighted and a certain comedy ensured he was made a Duke.

Disclaimer: I am aware that there could be a few answers but the clues do fit, possibly not as you may be guessing.

Well, the clues don't fit with the answer I had in mind, which BTW had nothing to do with Bond whatsoever. But othrwise, it could have worked : Duke Ellington. But he never played in Bond anyways, right ?

Think two British greats. Bond, for one, and a certain comedy the other.

*Figure the comedy aspect of the question and, hopefully, this will become more apparent.

The "knighted" part of the question fits differently than how people may be thinking.

I don't know enough about British comedy series except Monty Python, but as a wild guess, could it be Rowan Atkinson who AFAIK (never saw it) was a duke in Blackadder?

Ok, so the question and clues are above. I will say that the actor, himself, has not been knighted but Bond did ensure he was (I know how that comes across). A cherished British comedy also ensured he was made a Duke a few years later. This all happened in the 1980's.

For those who may be very familiar with classic British comedy, Victoria's father didn't "only own a pub!".

It seems that way. I can either give a very obvious clue, or reveal the answer.

    Afraid so @barryt007.

Ok, one final clue. The British comedy I talk of is Only Fools And Horses. Hopefully that should do the job.
