The bottom line : Less globe-trotting, more scenery for the 1 or 2 locations. QOS has 3 times more locations than YOLT and TB, yet those 2 films still have a much grand scape, epic scope than QOS. So we do have a pretty big problem with the globe-trotting. That aspect of QOS reminded me much more of Bourne (the constant location change of Supremacy and Ultimatum) than the Connery films (reaching an epic scope with only a couple of locations).
Besides that, I don't mind them going to India again - though I wonder why they insist on going there a second time when so many good spots on the planet haven't felt Bond's footsteps yet.
But, if they must insist on going to Indiana, I hope that location is treated the same way as OP. Maybe not to the point of having someone actually play the Bond theme to Bond, but I really want to see the sheer genius and entertainement of the chase with Vijay again. Just put some hilarious elements in it, Craig visibly enjoying himself for once and popping one-liners, and a full-blast Bond theme, and it should be awesome.
I mean, who doesn't love the moment when the taxi speeds through the advertisement that replaces itself when damaged ?
This could just be another rumour cooked up by the Indian papers. I doubt it's true. Remember all that "Indian company wants to buy MGM" rumours? Plus I wouldn't want Bond to go back to India again anyway.
Crowded, dirty cities!!
I hear the calls that QOS is too crammed with locales, and that's maybe a fair shout. However, for me, that's maybe one of its draws. To be honest, I don't think it gives either Haiti, Talamone or Sienna short shrifts (especially the latter, with the Palio and the chase it really gives that location some meaty plot development). One may argue Bregenz is wasted, but (I don't know), is there anything there apart from the opera stage? And surely it uses Chile (if not actually Bolivia) well in the movie's second half.
By the way, here's the Konkan Railway line of which the article speaks - it runs through a part of that fascinating country I certainly wouldn't be adverse to seeing on film...
I'd enjoy a few more scenes in London to be honest. There's so much left un-Bonded in that wonderful city.
Does this mean we will get my wish and have Katrina as a Bond girl - I so much hope so she's corrrrrrrrrrrrr.
Oh and India, if you ignore the corruption and slums as so much of the new Indian middle class do, it is a beautiful place.
Any way here's Katrina is action:
Politically India is such an interesting choice of location at the moment, it's an up and coming economic superpower, it's close proximity to the middle east could be used for story lines involving either international terrorism or/and the drug trade and as a bonus while shooting they could nip down to the Maldives and film a smashing PTS (a unused fantastic Bond location opportunity)
I would love to see the Maldives as well.
As for the calls for Australia to be used as a location... what exactly would Bond be doing there? Scuba diving at a reef? Boxing 'roos? Unless poaching koalas is involved in Quantum's next financial scheme, I don't see much of a reason to head down under. Don't get me wrong, I am in love with what I know of Aussieland, but I would prefer to see Bond visiting locales of more prominent importance in terms of up-to-date international politics (i.e. the Middle East, China, India, even maybe Lybia).
If all goes according to plan, Daniel Craig could be shooting for the new James Bond film in India soon. The yet-untitled new 007 flick, being referred to as Bond 23 for now, will be directed by Sam Mendes, the Oscar- winning maker of American Beauty.
The film is scheduled to open in 2012 and is right now in its scripting stage. Mendes along with his team of writers - John Logan, Neal Purvis and Robert Wade-is finalising the screenplay.
"Reportedly, the makers plan to shoot a significant portion of the film in a foreign location. The toss- up right now seems to be between India and South Africa. A team has been scouting for shooting sites around the scenic Konkan Railway line between Mumbai and Mangalore. It's all too early to talk about. If they decide on a location they like in India, the next step will be to obtain official permission to shoot here," said a trade source in Mumbai.
Early reports have suggested that Javier Bardem, who won a Best Supporting Actor Oscar for his role in No Country For Old Men in 2007, could play the villain in Bond 23 while Dame Judi Dench has confirmed that she will be returning to reprise the role of Bond's boss M. According to a report in Variety magazine, the film will reportedly also star acclaimed British actor Ralph Fiennes.
If Craig, Mendes and company indeed arrive in India to shoot, this will be the second Bond film to be shot in this country. Portions of Octopussy , the 13th film in the series, were shot extensively in Agra and Udaipur.
Octopussy , where Roger Moore played Bond, was released in 1983 and a high point of the film for Indian fans was the presence of Kabir Bedi and tennis ace Vijay Amritraj in the cast. While Amritraj played an aide to Bond, Bedi was one of the baddies.
Bond 23 has been in the news ever since it was announced. While considerable hype was generated thanks to Craig's consecutive successes as Bond with his first two outings, Casino Royale and Quantum Of Solace, financial woes at MGM, the banner that helms the Bond productions, indicated trouble.
Subsequently, MGM struck a deal with Sony that involved the latter in the co- financing and worldwide marketing and distribution of the new 007 flick.
The release of Bond 23 in 2012 is scheduled to coincide with the 50th anniversary of Dr. No, the first Bond film released in 1962. Dench, playing Bond's boss M, was recently in India to shoot for John Madden's The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, co-starring Dev Patel. For Craig, Bardem and Fiennes, this would be their first shooting stint in this country if the producers choose India over South Africa.

Are we all being played or could India really be the next big Bond location? And India or South Africa. It's good to know it'll either be one or the other.
And good bit of research work there, Samster, so it possibly could be South Africa or India, but probably not both? We shall see...
What a guy. (*)
