How many here are waiting for the DVD/BR release of Skyfall to see it?

I hate going to the movies now. Popcorn laced with fake butter that makes me sick after, endless trailers for movies I have no interest in, and then a fuzzy movie digital image to boot.
So no, Skyfall will be a DVD purchase so I can see it clearly, consume popcorn with REAL butter, and be able to zip through the pre-movie nonsense.
I know I'm in the minority here, but I haven't seen a Bond movie in theatres in this century.
Makes me a bit sad. But then, the fun & adventure of movie-going has been replaced with extreme brutality & CGI/Shakey-cam-filled 'reality' gunk of late. My Bond is clearly not one of the 21st Century.
Oh well.

  • But going to see Bond at the theater is what it's all about. You can't compare that experience with sitting at home with your own copy ?

You have no obligation to eat anything they sell either ?

Although the commercials and trailers before the film starts are damn annoying..

In no hurry to see the DVD release, will merely wait for the time of release, as it won't be long now. Will be a welcome addition to the collection this time round

It's like an addiction- see the movie, buy the popcorn & Coke, they spray a fume in the air that makes it mandatory.
  • But you'd purchase the popcorn and sodas before seeing the movie though :|

It's a covert substance that affects you upon entering. You MUST buy the popcorn.
  • At risk of this thread going wildly off topic, and I'll only give it a last mention by saying' What's to stop people from sneaking in their own eats and drinks, instead of paying extortionate prices for their (theater owners) own products in the first place ?

But once again, there's no rush for this home release. The time will soon be upon us

Of course I'm one of the many people that have the Bond 50 collecton (mine is Blu-ray). I need to fill that slot reserved for Skyfall.

    Ditto.

You have to see Bond movies in theatres, there's no way you can't. That being said, I hate theatres. People are noisy and smelly, and they bring the loudest wrappers. If a movie's any good, you shouldn't have to eat while watching it.

I saw it at the theater on opening night, and downloaded the torrent as soon as it became available so I could watch on demand. Will purchase the DVD when released to add to my existing 22 Bond DVDs.

The theatre where I live seems to just project a DVD onto the screen, there's no other explanation for the poor quality images I see there. Not too bad if you sit really far back, but a few years ago you could sit in the front row & still see it clearly... that's progress for ya.

Or living in backwaters. The theatre in my hometown has an extremely sharp projection, and with 8 cinema's with up to 500 seats it's big enough.

Nothing can substitute watching a film in a theater and nothing can compare to it. I take a crappy cinema room over a home theater any day of the week because going to the cinema is an experience!
  • You're not seeing it in cinema because of the fuzzy image..... so you buy the DVD? IMO, DVDs have horrible picture quality! If you're gonna wait to see it at home, at least get the Blu-Ray!

My DVD player up-scales, so it looks pretty good. Besides, I have no BR player. I have a portable 9" DVD player that provides a GLORIOUS picture though, and I use it for my Bond movies usually.

OMG i could never do that? Especially with Bond let alone whatever other movies were released that i would go to see? And you would most likely know everything about a movie before you had even seen it? :((

The *worst* digital projection in a movie theatre is 2K resolution, which is almost double the clarity of Blu-ray (and almost four times that of DVD). Some theatres are switching to 4K which is roughly equivalent to projected film.

If the digital projection is fuzzy in your theatre then find another theatre. It's not the technology, it's the people using it.

This is insane. 1.) I have gone to the movies since near birth and after age 8 have never bought popcorn or soda. My mantra is that if the film is good enough I won't need to worry about nourishment. It will suck me in completely. 2.) You are missing the spectacular viewing experience that heightens every film. The Dark Knight Rises and Skyfall wouldn't feel like the same special films to me if I didn't have the audience sharing the moment with me, in awe at the action, laughing at the one liners, then remaining silent and heartbroken at the sad scenes. There is truly no better feeling than seeing a film that completely takes you for a ride that makes you join in loud applause with the whole theatre audience, hearts beating as one as the credits role. If you miss THAT, you're off the rocker. The movies are simply wonderful places to be. To think that you are with people from all walks of life, coming together to share a brilliant and unforgettable experience that can only come from these kinds of things.

While I don't agree with #1 - I enjoy a Mojito or popcorn when I go to the movies - I couldn't possibly agree more with #2. The movies aren't just about going - it's the experience. Nothing beats seeing a film's midnight release, and like Brady said, sharing all of the experiences with the audience members, because they are there for the exact same reason you are: the tears, the laughter, the excitement, all of it. And when the credits hit and everyone just claps and cheers, nothing is better.

Do it! Don't let the spoilers you know now ruin the possibility of a great experience. I went in knowing every single twist - all of them revealed on accident - and still had a wonderful time.

I am serious. This film takes thing farther than any before it and has some of the greatest moments that make you feel proud to be a Bond fan, and if you miss that experience, I know you will regret it. You'll watch Skyfall months down the line, see all the spectacular moments I wish I could share with you, and then pause it to slap yourself for missing it. GO GO GO GO GO GO GO GO GO GO GO GO! \m/

I'm not quite sure why seem so keen to wear as a badge of honour not going to see the film and waiting to appreciate it in all its glory on your 9'' screen merely, it seems to me, to deny the cinema any revenue from popcorn you seem incapable of resisting.

FYI cinema popcorn is the commodity with the biggest mark up in the world (more so even than heroin) so only a complete imbecile would even think about paying the outrageous prices they charge. A bag of Butterkist from Tesco for a tenth of the price does me very nicely thank you.

But each to his own - if you're happy squinting at your tiny screen so long as it denies the cinema some revenue then feel free. Myself, I prefer to watch the film as the director intended with the best possible sound and picture and as I am not 3 I am able to resist the impulse to be fleeced at the popcorn kiosk.

I am proud to say I have never bought popcorn at a cinema in my whole life and I can't see why anyone would feel "obligated" to do it.

I'm not sure how people would feel obligated to do so, either, but I occasionally enjoy a bag of popcorn while I watch a film. Nothing wrong with it.

3 disc set (2 disc SE BD/1 disc DVD) and 2 SE DVD wil be nice. But Fox wil release it and then it wil possible be 2 disc set (BD/DVD), 1 disc dvd and later a 1 disc BD without the dvd. As there did with ''In Time'' mabey there wil release 2 difrent versions of that 2 disc set, a second version exist of that movie with sleeve for a limited time. I hope for Skyfall only one version with sleeve. I hope there wil at poster 1 (Gunbarrel) on the sleeve's for both BD and DVD and the front of the keepcase from the BD wil be poster 3 (Bond in Blue Tux). The front of the keepcase from dvd release should get poster 2 (Bond on the floor).

At this moment it look like both dvd and BD releases in The Netherlands (Wil possible be Dutch/France release) wil get Gunbarrel as front as happend with Soundtrack too and American release wil get Bond on the floor. The preorder price in my opnion sugest it wil be BD/DVD and 2 disc SE DVD. Quantum of Solace get only 1 BD and 1 dvd and a limited 2 disc DVD in my country

I wil be based on how there wil release Skyfall or i wil buy it earlier then Casino Royale and QOS who on this moment missing because of some release problems. With Quantum of Solace i wait on a new release who update the exist versions with more material. Iam not so hurry any more as with DAD because Eon also not hurry to release the best from the start. If i realy be fair i haven't seen QOS for the second time as i saw it in cinema's because the tv version be alternate cut without the Gunbarrel who be part of the end credits and without MGM lion and Sony logo at the start. If there is one reasen for Skyfall in cinema if you wil possible get problems with buying the dvd/BD fast then it be the new MGM logo and Gunbarrel at the end.
