SPECTRE Production Timeline

Chiwetel (my friends and I call him Chi, this can not be addressed or up for discussion) is too young to be the central villain. I prefer to see corporate structure of SPECTRE in Thunderball - Blofeld CEO, Largo is Project manager. I like to see Chi as Project Manager for Bond 24, with a brains behind him, and now take this opportunity to call for Eon to incorporate this into the script.

Good analogy, but I personally use the army one: Largo, Greene, Rosa Klebb and so on are field commander, while the big bad is the general.

I do find Chiwetel a bit young, that said he is older than Toby Stephens as Gustav Graves and he has the same age as Scaramanga in the novel. And, of course, he could play an older character than himself (like Bardem did).

And can someone change the title, since it is still misleading?

Just thinking about the possible Scandi aspect of it... I think a lot of people automatically equate this to a role for snow, skiing and mountains. It's true that its certainly a possibility, and perhaps desirable for many. However, we've seen a lot of that in past Bond movies generally. I think the producers and ergo the location scouts would be wiser to exploit some of the more unknown aspects of our northern neighbours. Sweden, for example, has lakes, plateaux, stunning coastline, as well as extensive industrial zones. Norway is a key NATO member with a strong history in the North Sea arena in the Cold War.

There's a lot to play with there. I think it would be a shame to fall back on "comfort zones"...

I agree here. I have seen Sweden in summertime and it is gorgeous. And yes, there os a geopolitical aspect of Scandinavia that can be a gold mine for plots. And also characters: if Chiwetel Ejiofor does not become the next villain, there are many Scandinavian actors who could play the badguy magnificently.

That said, it's not because the actresses are Scandinavian that the film will be shot there. And there is the financial aspect that may be an issue, especially in Norway.

    For the record,

I never insinuated an article was related to my Gala Brand / Loelia Ponsonby speculation. The title does not, in my honest opinion, infer any such thing. In long, I would have it read "Bond 24 Production Timeline - Could The British Actress The Team Is Scouting For Play The Elusive Gala Brand Or Loelia Ponsonby For The First Time On Film?" but that is messy.

Seeing as this is a Discussion, which is driven by other users' input, I will yield and change the topic to focus on the possibility of the Scandinavian region featuring in the film based on the hunt for an actress of such region, as that seems to be where the talk has shifted.

I understand the confusion I may have caused, but nowhere have I ever stated that this thread will strictly feature facts. It's a timeline that includes every piece of news and rumor (see: speculation) related to the production of the film. The news is that the film will feature a British actress as the lead Bond girl. The rumor (of my own creation, which could have easily been published by any film-related magazine on the planet) is that it could be Gala Brand or Loelia Ponsonby, two characters never before realized on film.

I apologize if I have offended anybody, but in my eyes there is, and was, no issue.

    Moving on,

Guys kind of off-topic but this is the largest thread at the moment: Have you seen this ?

Seems interesting. Is there a thread for this ?

That is indeed very cool, and I myself pledged. But it is very out of place in this thread and very off topic. It does not have its own thread, so if you would like to open one I welcome you to it.

    Two new updates:
Danjaq and MGM have filed a lawsuit against Universal Pictures' spy project Section 6, claiming the film features "a daring, tuxedo-clad British secret agent, employed by 'His Majesty's Secret Service,' with a 'license to kill,' and a 00 secret agent number on a mission to save England from the diabolical plot of a megalomaniac villain..." and wishes to cease production of the film due to similar elements to the James Bond franchise.

Daniel Craig left the production of The Whole Truth, set to be his only film between Skyfall and B24, for unknown reasons causing production of the lawyer drama to be halted.

Variety just picked up the scoop: http://variety.com/2014/film/news/daniel-craig-bails-on-thriller-the-whole-truth-1201154597/

Please do not scare us like that. "MGM lawsuits" has been synonymous with delays and hiatuses for Bond before. Phew!

I read about the lawsuit a few days ago and quite frankly, I'm not sure if MGM really have a leg to stand on with this one.

Wow, seems like it's legit but I'd really like to know why he'd pull out so suddenly. It's not a good look professionally.

Still scary. But better than speculation being labeled as news.

There are so many reasons as to why Craig could have pulled out. I'm not an expert in Hollywood convention, but from a Bond fan perspective - if it means he can spend more time on B24 preproduction, then I don't see what the issue is.

Backing out of two film projects in a row could lead to a slightly marked reputation, could it not?

Considering DC hasn't exactly set the world on fire away from Bond, perhaps he can't afford to be that picky.

I do have reservations about what direction his career will head once he steps down from Bond.

I believe he will become a valuable supporting cast member to have in a film and do more stage work. His leading man days are with Bond and any other films he does while he has the role.

If it will give you the satisfaction, start your own 'fact' thread and I will see to it to flag every post as overlap with my thread.

If you are unwilling to do that, don't waste space by posting your non-issue comments in the thread and disrupt the conversation. There is a fantastic message system if you wish to contact me with a relevent concern.

I don't know. The 'double-O' title is definitely Bond property.

Hey, don't get on your high horse. I simply meant that since this thread was about Bond 24 News, updating its title with speculation was misleading. I did not say willingly misleading, merely that it was.

Seeing his choices outside of TGWTDT have been questionable, he obviously made the right choice with Monuments Men, when you consider Cowboys and Aliens wasn't brilliant or box office gold and what he was doing accepting Dream House is beyond me.

Maybe he's getting a bit more shrewd in his choices and saw something in The Whole Truth that made him jump ship but yes this could get him a bad reputation.

I think he'll come into his own once he's finished Bond and when he's free of the role and the pressure we'll see him make some better choices, Brosnan has certainly done OK for himself since leaving the role.

I was the first to say I thought Craig would be a star outside of Bond during his tenure but his output hasn't actually proved that, Cowboys was probably his best shot but that didn't work out like it should have.

Craig did some great work before Bond but since he took the role I don't think he's really done anything really good apart from his Bond films. Dragon Tattoo was decent enough but that's about it imo. I thought Cowboys and Aliens and Dream House were poor.

Brosnan was Bond for seven years and during that time he made the Thomas Crown Affair and Tailor of Panama. Craig has been Bond for seven years now and I don't think he's made anything as good as those yet, which is surprising really because he's a really good actor, you'd think he'd make more good films.

I'll personally take TGWTDT over both those film but then I worship at the altar of David Fincher so I might be a little biased.

TTCA and TOP are good films but I haven't bought them and are unlikely to watch them in the near future.

To be fair to Craig he has done 2 theatrical plays, at least that I know of, both which were huge successes. Maybe the prep for Bond 24 requires more of his attention and availability. Maybe.

The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo is a masterpiece and better than any Bond movie Craig has ever done. Yes, it's even better than Casino Royale. Brosnan has never been in a movie as good as that and I don't think he ever will.

Maybe Craig is more of a thespian.

Yeah I'm gonna have to agree with the above posters. TGWTDT far exceeded anything Brosnan has done pre, during, or post Bond. I believe the film would've been a much bigger hit had it not been released during the Christmas season. Grim movies like that don't exactly fit in with the holiday spirit. None the less, while I wouldn't go as far as to call it a masterpiece but it was still an excellent film and a feather in the cap of Daniel Craig.
