Perhaps, but you probably know what I'm going to say. The positive reputation he's gained during Bond can soften any blow of walking away from "normal" films. Granted, it's not ideal for the filmmakers (by any means), but I think for now - as someone has already said - he's probably happy on stage and films that he can afford to spend time on. I reckon he probably just got over ambitious.
Craigs non-Bond movies have been not that great. Is that because he picks them wrongly or because he can chose artfilms due to his massive paycheck from the 007 franchise?
Comparing Craigs and Brosnans movie always ends in a bashing, overal I must admit that Brosnans output is more stellar than Craigs in recent years.
Perhaps Craig lacks the charisma as a leading man somehow outside of the franchise, after all 007 is the bigger of the two?
I'd never call TGWTDT a masterpiece but apart from Noomi Rapace's Salander I'd say Fincher delivered everything else superior to the Swedish version, for instance Blomvist isn't supposed to be swaggering about looking smug like Michael Nyqvist is. He's supposed to be deflated, having had his ego battered by the libel case that's left his credibility in tatters.
Craig nails this perfectly plus his chemistry with Mara is much better than the dynamic between Nyvquist and Rapace.
Also Niels Arden Oplev's has obviously referenced both Se7en and even more Fincher's undeniable masterpiece Zodiac, Oplev's no Fincher. I remember him bad mouthing the DF film but he follows it up with a by the numbers Hollywood film with Rapace and Colin Farrell.
If the sequels ever get made by Sony they won't have to try to hard to top the Swedish TV films that got made, they were hugely disappointing and Thomas Alfredson's brother Daniel obviously lacks the talent of his more gifted sibling.
He also strikes me as someone who won't bullshit you if he doesn't have something to bring to the project. Maybe that was the case here.
Can't argue with this. It's disappointing because Craig is a talent, but there is nothing of his in the intervening years that comes close to Bond, unlike Brozzer.
As they say, opinions are like arseholes.
They are indeed!
Right on! I love CR and SF and I think they are both among the very best movies of their respective years but TGWTDT is on an entirely different level. It's one of the 5 best movies since 2000 in my opinion.
I wouldn't put it has top tier Fincher but it's still a 5 star film for me and could only hope Bond could get to this level of quality.
I think he needs to explain why he did it tbh :

Actually no, he doesn't. Not to the public anyway. I just have a hunch that something got ugly and it was either his way or the highway. You don't quit right before shooting unless something went really wrong, IMO. They'd sue his majestic butt for breach of contract if they could or if it wasn't mutual. So most likely some disagreement or contractual shit hit the fan. Nothing any party would like to see discussed in public.
I think @Germanlady is right. This all happened 3-4 days ago and since then there has really been no other news. My guess is that it was probably some lame contractual stuff and nothing too exciting.
Usually stuff like this goes down all the time in Hollywood and it really is no big deal. Mia Wasikowska was supposed to do a film called 'Carol' this year but she dropped out a few weeks before filming and was quickly replaced by Rooney Mara.
Had Daniel's departure been some big scandalous event it would have been all over the trade press. Last year when Lynne Ramsay left the film 'Jane got a Gun' under similar circumstances the whole story blew up due the nature of her departure.
While I agree with Germanlady sentiments it will hurt his marketvalue and will make Craig look like the 007 actor with fat check who does not look too good in other projects.
A bit of a shame as I quite like Craig as an actor and would like to see more of him outside of 007land, where he has not impressed me so far.

Ejiofor, I'm sure will be the villain. Once again, we need to wait until November for the vital confirmation.
Agreed. I trust the latest rumors and according to them one of the actresses will be Scandinavian and the other one British. Cruz is Spanish.
We are talking of an official schedule from Sony itself...
