CALM DOWN PEOPLE! Cruz isn't cast and I'm prett sure she won't be. Someone at Sony France is an idiot and thought the rumor from last year was more than just a rumor. This has happened before.

Dam it I want her as a bond girl.

That Cruz story dates back to June. How time flies!

    What he said.

Beside, given her age (39 now) and her fame, it is highly unlikely that she will ever be a Bond girl now. They generally cast relative unknown as Bond girls and it has been the case so far during the Craig era.

Not sure about this. I think someone made a mistake over Sony France.

The French get easily excited like this.

I remember when Thandie was rumoured for the role of Vesper. It's good to see Ejiofor making a Nigerian movie, I know he's making many people proud right now. That B roll footage of him at the premiere has him looking incredibly suave. At this point I think it's safe to say he WILL be the villain in Bond 24.

Why? Because he's making Nigerians proud and looked "incredibly suave" in B roll footage? Or because you so desperately want him to be the villain?

Look, I'm perfectly fine with Chi as the next Bond villain as long as he's not Blofeld, but I'm unaware of anything other than rumors about his involvement with Bond at this point.

I don't see the problem people have with Cruz. I thin she could do really great! Just thinking about it, I can picture her playing Fiona Volpe from TB. She's not quite as sexy or as potentially evil as Luciana Paluzzi, but I could see her pulling something like that off. I guess the only problem is that you'd see a casting like that coming a mile away and there wouldn't be much surprise in that story.

unless Sean she is like Pussy Galore a villainous bond girl turned to the good side by Craig.

Well, insiders say he is the top choice. It appears as more than rumours to me but let's see what happens.

I do hope that if Ejiofor is the main villain that he is not Blofeld, not because I don't want Blofeld to return, but because I feel like I'll just keep thinking he's Kananga...

I would love it if they used the name Buonaparte Ignace Gallia for bond 24's villian

There is some credibility to the rumours, let's put it this way, but even then that is not a given yet, even if he was being considered. How many rumors were they about Le Chiffre when CR was being made?

I don't think we should jump into conclusions. Not that I would mind Cruz to be cast, she is a decent enough actress, but I think it is too early to be sure about any cast other than the "regulars". I think the Ejiofor story has a lot more credibility but still let's see what the future brings.

Loving all this debate and rumour! :-bd I personally think that Cruz will not play a part in Bond 24? Don't know why? But think with what we already know, I just do not believe she is a fit for this new adventure?

Since the Penelope Cruz will be the next Bond girl is a rumour that appeared about a dozen times and given her age, it is very unlikely. Especially since the other actresses mentioned have more the profile: their are unknown.

What has any of that got to do with anything? Don't act like a dick unnecessarily. I'm saying it looks as though he'll be the villain based on the widespread rumours and the fact that he nor anyone else for that matter has denied it. He may very well have no involvement with the film but imo, I think there's a strong possibility that he is.

  • I'm a big fan of Chiwitel, and he never crossed my mind as a Bond villain, but I think he would be brilliant.

Boy, it struck me that Chiwitel is younger than me!

Sorry about the title. Wanted to update you all from work so I was on my phone. Didn't notice the mistake until I got home. A bit embarrassed.

I'm still not convinced Cruz is set for the film. We *know* the main Bond girl will be British, right? And the secondary will be Scandinavian. So where does Cruz fit in? I think she would have been perfect for the role of Severine, but I don't see anything for her now. It would be weird having the spouse of the last villain in the new movie.

Besides, they haven't even locked their primary choice for a villain yet, so why would they be locking down other roles? As far as we know, they're still working with a spec script from Logan.

Just thinking... that was before even Mendes was signed on to direct. Perhaps the producers were pushing forward a plan with Logan with eyes on attaching Cruz to the project once they found a director, and then Mendes came on board and they gave him creative free will. That would explain the original rumors, and an official company document with her name on it. Perhaps it was a previous plan that is no more, and the list just has yet to be updated?

Well if old rumors/plans are cropping up as new possibilities or whatever they consider it - given that almost all of the film sites have passed this around today - then I wonder when Kevin Spacey's name will pop up again.

I hope, when those do come, they are true.

    Spacey > Ejiofor

    I might even make that a t-shirt.

I do think the Cruz rumor is possibly true I mean it's Sony France (as in part of the company distributing Bond 24) not some backwater Site claiming Cruz is in this...
  • edited April 2014 Posts: 2,015
With Judi Dench out, maybe someone is superstitious and needs another Academy Award female winner for the next one :) The error in Sony France is still the most likely scenario though IMO, big reveals even by mistake usually come stronger than that (remember the French Casino Royale teaser leaked by mistake one week before the official schedule ?).

Although Penelope Cruz has been announced just a few days ago as the new Schweppes icon, and, well, the company could have been convinced by the agent claiming she would soon be back in the light in the movie theaters with a big role. So there's some food for everyone's opinion.

"What did you expect, Mr Bond ?"
  • Penelope Cruz is pretty dang attractive at 39...if she could play a female villain that would amazing

Acting-wise, I agree. But the thing with Spacey though is that he's played so many villains (Usual Suspects, Seven, Superman Returns, House of Cards) that I don't think he can add much to the role. I'm more excited to see what Ejiofor can do with the role given the opportunity than Spacey.

I just don't like Spacey, and really never have. I am happy it seems to be moving forward for Ejiofor.
