Yeah, I hope he joins us here again!
And that would be good news, his working on Bond 24. :)

@Ludovico, so does Dwayne Johnson, but I'm sure he could stomp through almost anyone thrown at him. It's about screen presence. Watch either of those and you'll see what I mean. He comes across as the guy you wouldn't expect, and any general audience member could see someone like him in the film and figure "Oh, small guy, that shouldn't be bad," until he breaks out his ridiculous Pencak Silat skills and kicks some ass.

I guess I prefer villains who look nasty, in Bond movies at least. Not to say that this cannot be arranged with the proper makeup.

Yeah, it does happen all the time and in this case they're obviously making fairly major changes, not just a few dialogue changes otherwise production wouldn't need to be delayed. Changes for the best though? Hmmm...

Honestly, re-writes which push back a schedule are very common in filmmaking. In fact I am on a pretty big tv show right now and we have had to push back 2 weeks - which on a tv schedule is a lot believe me, because of story and script issues which we had not foreseen. Bond 24 is being pushed back 2 months - that's a fair bit, but far from a disaster. They have plainly carefully considered what they need to do and have correctly and wisely adjusted the schedule for that very reason. As I have said, this is very, very common in filmmaking. Because it's a Bond film it gets more press like in Baz's Daily Mail "exclusives", but if every feature film (even blockbusters) were reported like a Bond film in the normal press you would realize this is very usual in filmmaking. I have been in the film business 30 years, and I have seen and experienced this kind of re-writing and re-scheduling many, many, many times. Hope that helps ease your concerns GL.

I'd love to be at ease, believe me ;) and thanks so much for trying to put me into that position. So ok and this is the last I will say about this (I try :D ) Obviously something FORCED them to bring back N & P, which was not at all on the agenda. They had a perfectly fit writer in Logan. He was under contract to write the damn thing alone. Now this seems to be old news. This one question remains - why isn't he doing the necessary rewrites? Why hiring a pair of writers to polish the script of the "main writer"? For all we know, it was ALWAYS the other way around.

Very quickly because I have to shoot out now, but again, it is common for writers to step back or be replaced for re-writes. This doesn't mean fighting or arguments with the producers etc, it's just that screenwriting is an incredibly intense process - and quite exhausting. Sometimes, after months and months of intense work it becomes hard to remain objective about the material, the story, characters etc. - a writer simply needs to step back. (I have had the luxury of having a year away from a script I have written which goes into production in November - and because of the time delay I have come back to the script with a clear and objective eye and as a result I am making HUGE improvements which I simply could not have seen before due to being so close to the material.) So, what usually happens is that a writer wisely steps back to allow fresh eyes on the material. Again, this is very common, and writers' contracts have clauses which protect both themselves and the producers if a new writer or writers are brought onto a project at any stage - so everyone is ALWAYS prepared for this.

I don't think John Logan through his script in the air and stormed out. Most writers are too experienced and too professional to act like that and they know all too well when it is time for them to step back.

    True, true.

Logan may have been a bit disappointed or/and frustrated though.

Regarding one script I wrote, the producer who couldn't write and who doesn't have English as a first language came in and started re-writing some of my stuff with bad ideas and grammar. Later on he then insisted in just having my name in the film credits under screenplay and not his which didn't make me happy obviously.

I wonder if Mendes will want someone to do more re-writes post P&W. I have to say, if P & W do the final re-write then I won't feel too confident about the quality because of what they did with TWINE and DAD. Difficult to say whether they've improved or not seeing we don't know which dialogue they were responsible for in CR, QOS and SF.
  • I'm not sure at all the ethnicity of the stuntman who probably put himself on the IMDB line (he just appeared on Twitter) hints that the actor he will double will be Asian. He may double for Dalton on SHIELD for instance. I've seen some stuntmen on set looking absolutely nothing like the stars, and then the camera does some magic (but believe it or not, Depardieu has a double who looks almost like his twin !) And well, they even ventured with face replacement in SF so...

People, myself included, are doing wishful thinking here. For all we know we won't even notice the stuntman, who will just be that, a stuntman, and will play no character, just be a double. If he is in Bond 24 at all.

I forgot about the face replacement for SF. It certainly makes things easier when it comes to casting.

I agree- which leads me to ask: how many stuntmen actually played characters in the films- besides Bob Simmons (Bouvar) and Alf Joint (Capungo)? There couldn't have been a lot.

And quite often they play a speechless role. Sébastien Foucan was another one of course, who had a more important role. But then again he did not speak. Was Patrice played by a stuntman too?

Ah yes, I forgot about Mollaka. Ola Rapace (Patrice) is an established actor, although I have no idea just how many of his scenes were doubled by a stuntman.

Ben Cooke double for Daniel Craig on the train/motor bike chase in Skyfall (In some picture's of Train scene you see him and Daniel Craig both in gray tux Bond also wear on motor.) and same guy i think who double for Patrice with fight with Patrice. Patrice must falls in to glass, something he also did in QOS double for Daniel Craig in the hotel scene when Bond must fall in to the glass (Also a picture from) .

Glenn Foster play Mitchell in QOS because he must run on a roof/Libery scene together with Bobby Holland Hanton (See his imdb page for a picture.) who play Bond.

The lack of real news is very annoying.

    Yeah, same here.

I used to drink with Pierce Brosnan's stuntman at the pub and he looked a lot more like Harvey Keitel to me. Although from a distance I guess he would pass as Brosnan.

Here's a funny little stuntman story. I was on the set of the new Terminator movie being shot in New Orleans. A replica of a portion of the Golden Gate Bridge was constructed for a big action scene. In this day and age of high tech digital marvels, the stuntman doubling for Arnold Schwarzenegger wore the equivalent of an Arnold Halloween mask, string and all, while doing his driving scenes. Through the slightly tinted glass it looked like Arnold.

I think that lack of news is a good thing. The less one knows about the film the better. Although I realise some people like going into a Bond film knowing everything that happens every minute of the film to the point where it's like you've alrady seen the film and there are no surprises left. Something I've never understood but each to their own. :)

Yes, the (well, "catastrophic") hearsay I got more than one month ago was the first hearsay I got about a Bond movie since a loooonnng time. On the other hand, between LTK and GE, we were told many, many things about the problems with Bond (well, I was close to the head of the French fan club at that time, so that helped a lot too, since a French bank was involved a lot in the fiasco).

Good news do not leak. Projects that people are working on do not leak so easily (you risk to loose your job). For the anecdote, for months before the official announcements, "Iron Man" was written all over the place in some VFX company, you could see it while walking in the street nearby. But no one spoiled the beans.

But when some projects are cancelled or frozen for some time, you have people loudly wondering that they'll work on in the next months, and looking for something else ASAP and telling everyone they're free because "the other project is frozen/cancelled". No more contract to make them stay really mute.

Bad management from the Cubby Broccolli family. Time too pass the mantle on to someone new. Someone who give a damn about the legacy and some proffessionalism.

It doesn't? With Skyfall, the casting of Ralph Fiennes, Javier Bardem and Albert Finney all leaked out before any official announcement.

Yes because there was never production woes during the saltzman Brocoli era. Nope none what so ever...

No, never to this level. Each movie came out on schedule like clockwork. Every one talks of fun family atmosphere on set. Now we are lucky if we get a Bond movie every 4 years. And plenty are plagued by production nightmares - TND, QOS, and now Bond 24.

And obviously the Broccoli family have less to care about than an outsider. What a great idea.

There would be about 50 people of these forums with more off a passion for 007 than Broccoli family. Let's see some new blood.

I see no need to jeopardise the continued success of the Bond film series, by getting new producers in to replace the Broccoli family.
They've been involved since the beginning of the series. Any hold up are not entirely their fault. I don't see why you think it's their doing. They have just as much interest in getting the films out as we the fans have in viewing them.
If it's not broke, then don't fix it.

I'm not sure why we're discussing this again. The return of Purvis & Wade would be much more alarming to some than this flogged horse.

Thanks for posting, Marketto! I wonder how factual that is, as it says that when filming starts in December, it will shoot in various locations throughout the UK. I wonder if we'll see Bond in Ireland or see him return to Scotland or something, or perhaps it's just a placeholder of sorts.

Thanks for that, @marketto007. It also claims Chiwetel Ejiofor does have a role in the film. I sure hope so.

Read it, the description does not look factual at all.

@boldfinger, I skimmed it. A lot of it looked like filler information for the talent agency.

I figure the only truth to come out of it is that you can apply for casting or extras through that site and everything else is pulled from rumors or random bits of gossip from the film thus far.
